Road to the Champions Tournament Week 16

- Week 16's Champion's tournament features the Prancer & Master Cycle w/Metal Tires. That's pretty much all there is to it. Unfortunately it also is one of my worst tournaments I have ever played.

This was also a pretty rough tournament for me, barely scraping my way into the top 20. Had quite a few races where I got karted at the end of the final lap and fell to a much lower position (notably Moo Moo Meadows).
I was getting wrecked almost every race. My best finish being 3rd is not something to be excited about. At least you made it - I couldn't even manage that thanks to all the item spam and the borderline unfair item pulls I got to the point where I can't even protect myself.
I don't know how good this commentary will be, considering I didn't have the energy to give much (if any) during Alex's livestream, but since I haven't yet fallen asleep (as of the time this video was uploaded), here goes.

Winter's still better than the one with the horrendously-placed ramp, but given how bad Traction is due to the tournament rules, I will concede that it's a bad season in this particular situation.

Unlike Jank Jank Summit, which I believe is a lost cause for you, I think this course could eventually be kind to you after we get some practice in weekend friend rooms. Of course, we still need to get to Bowser's Castle before anything else, for obvious reasons, and Ninja Hideaway is also on the queue... but practice on this course comes before the Shy Guys' home away from home.

That and 🗑 Laps are my biggest complaints with Wave 5. The red shells were perfectly fine before the Booster Pass, and even if their patterns were altered in any of the first 4 waves, it wasn't noticeable until the change in Wave 5. If it doesn't get fixed in Wave 6, we'll have to adjust for this "new normal", as there's nothing we can do but lament the fact that red shells were so much better behaved before Wave 5.

25:14 Red shell pulls are too frequent at times, and then they also have a tendency to skip opponents. They have been a problem ever since Wave 5 released. They claimed they fixed the Red shells. NOPE. They are WORSE than before!

32:30 And... A editing mishap. I'm in the process of switching video editors and have decided to make a rather expensive investment in Adobe products. Its going to cost me roughly $60 a month, but I now have some powerful apps at my fingertips, most of which I have experience with. Week 17's video and onwards will be edited using Adobe Premiere. I gotta mess around with it and learn the interface.

Almost any set of tires would have been an upgrade over the Metal tires when the Master Cycle (and not even the Zero version) and Prancer are the only "legal" vehicle bodies. The only exceptions I can think of are the Gold (statistically inferior to Metal because of the Invincibility stat when both tire types share all other stats) and both versions of Slick tires.

I had a similar issue on Yoshi Circuit several months ago (maybe even over a year ago by now). A 🍄 (or ⭐, or even Pity Bill, considering how far back I was) was my only hope of competing on the final lap, and I got none of those.

The Master Cycle had an even more adverse effect on Traction. I doubt the Prancer would have been much better, either, so with these tournament rules, autumn would have certainly been the best season to get. Instead, you got a decent season under the set of circumstances that prevent it from being the best season.

I only caught the end of one of his streams, and that was only because of a Hydreix raid, but JPG was obnoxious the entire time I was there. Admittedly, that was also my first impression of Nicholas Fornaro, but I was able to give Nicholas a second chance for reasons that aren't possible for JPG, and now Nicholas is one of my favorite Mario Kart content creators.
Adding insult to injury on the JPG front, a viewer asked for his 5 least favorite courses. Guess what he put at the very end of that list, and guess what wasn't on the list at all. -Spoiler. If you guessed Yoshi Valley for the first guessing game and Los Angeles Laps for the second guessing game, you were correct both times.-

There are definitely similarities, but my hatred for 🗑 Laps is definitely worse. After all, there are certain situations where you'll intentionally, albeit reluctantly, pick Jank Jank Summit whereas I *absolutely refuse* to pick 🗑 Laps, even in those same situations. I gave a longer explanation in the Monday war stream, including a fairly long list of courses that would be chosen in 🗑 Laps' place, but I don't recall if I explained why Cheep Cheep Beach topped that particular list, so here's a brief expansion on that. Both courses are similar if you take the city element out of 🗑 Laps while the differences in the courses make Cheep Cheep Beach so much more of a calm and relaxing race (or at least as much of a "calm and relaxing race" as the Mario Kart items permit, anyway).

Edit: Master Cycle was an option because I suggested a tournament idea in Alex’s server called “Jousting”, where the only vehicles you could use were the Prancer and the Master Cycle, but the metal tires rule was Alex’s idea and not mine LOL
Dang it, ALEX! Then again, I don't think the tires would've saved me from these toxic lobbies I was in.
Is it just me, or is it that when Alex really limits the vehicle combos, the overall item play becomes really bad. People just spam everything and races can be decided by pure luck.
It does seem like item spam is worse whenever Alex puts heavy limitations on our combos, so you're probably on to something. The past few weeks in particular have been really bad in this regard. There is no denying that.
Ngl I wanted Nicholas to win.
I was also on master cycle for every race except the first (which was on gorge).
I saw how close he came to winning. Kudos for him for surviving the psychotic players that item spam these tournaments into oblivion.
