btw "shade blade" is also itself a reference to Exor, a very late game boss for super mario RPG, and the music playing during the fight is the music of the phase 1 of the final boss of super mario RPG

Additionally, removing your commands is something done by a boss earlier in the game (The one where Geno joins your party, forgot his name but he's the Bow guy).

Fun fact, the stats of Shadow Mario at the end of the pit is dependent on your stats when you get there, don't remember how Attack and Defense work, but his HP is always Double your max HP, so if you have 10 HP, he only has 20 HP

Yeah, makes the only problem in the greed stone run the shadow partner, who I think may also have variable stats based on the rank of the partner it copies (Not sure if I'm right on that one though)
from what I recall Dark Mario can and will have specific badges equipped, like the stand type badges/Zap-Tap if you have them, and also any defense plus/damage dodge badges too, which's reflected in his Def stat on screen(since his defense is about the exact mirror to what would be considered Guarding as Mario)
he will most deff have any "attack increase by 1" type badges you have equipped, I can confirm this as well.
as his base damage is 18-19 with Mega Smash, which increases to 27-28ish normally with all possible +1 attack badges equipped

1:04 Honestly I wouldn't mind being a streamer's guide to the mod on their first playthrough to give them tips and hints, I really like the mod (vanilla is really easy when you've played through it so much, dark star edition can be a bit excessive with the difficulty at times, but it's at least manageable unlike master quest's anarchist bullshit route, and dark star edition also provides so much new content and buffs to pre-existing somewhat bad stuff), and someone experienced with the base game will still be getting tripped up quite a lot in the mod when they obviously don't expect all the new stuff in it.
One thing to note about the dark temple, if you were to do the rooms by going clockwise around the center room (go to the right from the doorway you enter from), then each room's boss would be based on an equivalent chapter (the first room to the right of the entrance doorway is based on chapter 1, being a koopa bro, the boss two doors down to the right of the entrance doorway is a dry/dull bones variation, the third is the atomic boo because boo's mansion in chapter 3, etc., all the way up to the one immediately to the left of the entrance doorway being a duplighost from chapter 7). The pit of 100 trials is the same way, floors 1-9 are chapter 1, so the floor 10 miniboss is a koopa bro, floors 11-19 are chapter 2, so the floor 20 miniboss is a dry bones, 21-30 is chapter 3, so it's an atomic boo, etc. Floor 90 is the Emperor Buzzy because it's based on the underground cavern, which is where the (dark) Buzzy empire lived.
Having a guide was insanely beneficial to my progression and discovery of the new stuff. I definitely lucked out by having one show up in chat lol.
Yeah I took notice of the correlation between the temple bosses and pit of 100 trials mini bosses as I was editing the video and felt kinda dumb because I totally could've spun that in a cool way. Super insightful stuff my guy I appreciate it.
interestingly, the Dark Mario fight can in fact, be refought after you beat it-
so you can actually fight him as much as you want no problems.
I tested it myself after beating him once, and to my Pleasant Surprise, coming back down to floor 100 a 2nd time after beating the boss rush for the super guard orb, I found you can fight him again.
Its deff a bit of a shame that the doopliss fight music wasn't used(it was stated in the orb of knowledge's lore link that the dev couldn't find a way to get it in as the track didn't work-), I'm sure it would've went pretty hard like the mario rpg boss music did.
yet I think Angry Bowser(Bowser's theme, which plays in his battle/throughout the game) fits pretty well for the Dark Mario fight, making it very tense.
also from what I know and tested, by far one of Dark Mario's hardest partners to get rid of is Dark Buzzatrice(due to Hustle spell), and that's the only place you can fight Dark Buzzatrice.
Bow's somewhat a close 2nd, but also the easiest of the partners.
I can also confirm its possible to beat Dark Mario with Super Curse on(and only Super Curse), making it decently challenging.
also for Dark Summoner, the actual easiest way to get rid of the red bit is Ultra Rank Sushi, as she does exactly 5 damage each time, which allows Mario to damage the Summoner.
so while the comment's deff right about using Mario, Sushi's the true way to get rid of the red bit
Playing through the mod with the Badge and Greed stone really amplified the puzzle aspect of the mod, where every battle is a test to see how you can defeat your opponent before they defeat you. Though, playing this mod with both “challenges” is arguably easier than playing it without them.
the dark sword at the top of the temple had the Smithy theme from Super Mario RPG
I thought it was a pretty unique story how there was a secret organization underground that kept the strongest monsters in the world contained from the public. Is there a named trope for this?
Not really sure if that's an actual trope, but it reminds me of the Holy Church in the Trails franchise.

No idea if the trope has a name but Dark Star gave me the idea to do this in my own game. It's such a cool concept.
There really was a unique story there. Unfortunately I don't know that this trope has a name but I have a couple that come up off the top of my head. I would either name it the "dark army" trope or the "forsaken" trope.
I vote for the name "Super Jail" trope.

For the dark summoner, I used parakarry air raid but purposefully didn’t do it all the way so it would do 5 damage, then multi bounce with Mario. Then just attack sky dive the red bit and mega jump the bee.
depending on the applied buff if it's not something like fast which I don't think was a thing in vanilla PM64 you could also keep him in yellow and never worry about being attacked

Dark Replicator actually functions very similarly to the first phase of The Ancestor, the final boss of Darkest Dungeon. Though, the Ancestor can spawn "perfect" clones that do not reduce his health when killed, he can attack you, but you only need to kill five Imperfect Clones in order to enter the next phase of the fight.
I was honestly expecting the final boss of chapter 9 or the pit of 100 trials to be the Dark Star from Bowser’s inside story

I want to play this rom hack but unfortunately it’s not just available for Download like rom hacks for Pokémon or Mario world. I googled it and you have to download the hack and the rom separate and then use some other program to patch the hack in the original rom. The problem is i have no clue how to do that and i have not found any tutorials that are simple and straightforward enough to figure it out. If there was just a modified rom like for other rom hacks then it would be much easier to get into.
The reason why most separate the patch file and rom is because sharing the patched rom is considered piracy.
As to do it, all you need is 3 things; The rom for PM64, the patch file, and the program that patches that file onto the rom. I did it last year with the program Floating IPS (Flips) to install the TTYD64 hack.
The program is straightforward. Open it, locate the rom, then locate the patch, then install.
I would share how to get the rom, but I don't think the video uploader would be happy if people did that. It could fall back onto them for allowing us to do that.
@@blissfulzane7154 the main reason why I wanted to know is that i have seen countless rom hacks for things like the GBA Pokémon games and you don’t usually have to patch them. I barely know how emulating in general works and even getting the games to not crash or glitch is a problem. I’m definitely a beginner when it comes to messing around with ROMs and emulation software so that’s more why I wanted a easy patched version. I mean if Pokémon hacks can do it all the time why not paper Mario? And even if it might be legally piracy it’s not like Nintendo is selling paper Mario 64 anymore regardless so it’s not exactly ethically or morally wrong for the modified ROM to exist. The main issue i have with trying to patch it myself is that i don’t want to download a virus or something like that. And because i have absolutely no idea how to patch and what program i need or where to get it I’m scared of doing something very very stupid like accidentally infecting my computer just because i don’t know what i was doing.
@@The_hot_blue_fire_guypokémon fans are one of the few that do them as roms, some of them started using patches because of the extremely high amount of roms that were taken down
nearly every rom hack requires it to be patched, otherwise there'd be a high chance it would end up getting taken down.
SMWCentral probably would have been shut down a long time ago if they hosted the roms themselves.
