A man wanted to stab me in Four Aces for accidentally stepping on his foot. I had just turned 19 and was living away from home for the first time in London for university studies. A little later a fight broke out. I saw a guy hit another guy with a hammer .... ffs! Unbelievably, the fight was stopped by Sugar Minott who happened to be in the place at the time!! After that evening, I never went near Four Aces again. Sorry, but in those days some people still had that sick mentality of going to dances armed with something like Beefy out of Babylon. After that, the only dances I went to were ones that avoided that kind of ruffneck crowd.

A few days before this interview, Blacker Dread celebrated his 50th anniversary in the music business on may 26th 2023 at the Brixton Townhall. The place was packed by a massive crowd paying tribute and loads of people couldn't even get entry because the place was so full already. Coxsone selectors in attendance: Festus Coxsone and Gappy Crucial, they smashed it. ..old Coxsone MC's in the place: Top Cat and Jah Screechy, who's hailing up Blacker Dread big time, while chatting over the Walk 'n Skank riddim - which is Answer riddim. The original riddim was made by Blacker Dread.
Full 80's Coxsone crew in unity. ..- the only One who was missing was Father Coxsone. Imagine the powerful picture of them ALL together, playing the sound. ..they wouldn't even have to argue over speakers which were later build together anyways - over income for the sound, which was brought to the table by all active members - or over dubplates which were achievements by the various members of the sound too. On the level! ..and the early dubplates were dubbed by Festus? these old dubs are his achievements same way. ...it's all just super sad.
i guess if 5 people are/were involved in the same thing - you'll have 5 different views on that same thing at the end.
Anger and bitterness isn't it, when One Love is preached. Blacker Dread paid by doing prison time, and those who are free from sin may throw the first stone. Unity is key, unity is strenght.

I remember playing cricket in the summer of 1984 with Lloyd when coxsonne Saxon and Unity played Brighton! I was 16 “in them times dere!” Lloyd is a gentleman and that Blues in Whitehawk manor Hill was the best one of all the 80s Dance inna Brighton 83 and 84 was best Sunsplash at Selhurst Park as well, they were the best days, when Black Uhuru carried the Mantle a few years after Bob passed.

Yes Lloydie speak the truth about Blacka petty criminal . went to his record shop years ago gave him ah £20 pound note for a 7 in record told him sorry i had nothing smaller an he gave me change of a £10 note . When challenged he denied it was ah £20 i gave him . Two people in the shop told him same way that i had given ah £20 note ( i never knew them ) an he reluctently gave me the extra £10 but you could see it inna his eye"s he knew what he was doing ........... never met lloyd but he speak very clear and i can say i went to blacker dread store only once in brixton when i was 15-16 around 20 years ago or so
