- So, the cats out of the bag, you know that the Mario sports game produced for Gameboy Colour aren't just simplified editions of the console versions; they are actually these miniature sports-themed RPGs, all set in an academy and featuring rivals and ally characters.
More people might know and expect that more standard Mario Sports games that showed up on the home console releases, like on the Nintendo 64. Good, solid multiplayer with some decent enough single player modes.
So you probably wanna do something crazy like, oh I don't know, play one of em? Take Mario Tennis (Gameboy Colour & Nintendo 64) for instance.
You can obviously play quick matches of Tennis with Super Mario universe characters, and a variety of other mini games and challenges; again featuring Mario characters.
But there is much more to consider. - Hry
Love the GBC version, what a hidden gem. That was my game of choice back in grade school and actually got me to take up tennis for a bit because of how much I loved the game boy game. While the narrative was pretty table stakes, it was still fun to work your way up the ranks all the way to playing against Mario and the other Nintendo characters for both singles and doubles.
Really cool that it inspired you to actually play some real life tennis!
Mario Tennis is the least graphically outdated game on the N64. Almost everything on a tennis court are flat shapes anyway and the camera doesn't have to move so janky camera controls don't detract from this game. Also fun fact I don't think he mentioned, each input command will yield different results when you hit the ball.
Yeah it's just a gorgeous game, really pushing the system to its limits. Jet Force Jemini who??? And also, side note: each input command changes how you hit the ball
Dude I'm re-playing the GBC version of this game all over again. Had this for my lime green handheld back in the late '90s. Downloaded it on my 3DS XL before the eShop closed and am going through Mario Tour mode on breaks at work. Circle of life moment haha glad I'm not the only one who remembers these games fondly. Great video!
Thank you! Lime Green GBC is such a nice look for that handheld. Playing it through on 3DS is also nice with save states.
Played it at my grandma's on her lime green gbc when I was a kid, this game screams lime green gbc to me.
Mario tennis gbc with the romhack to unlock all Transfer Pak characters immediately is such a good game
Agreed! I should have mentioned the transfer pak characters.
This exact thing is on NSO now
@@SlimeBlueMSwait we can transfer between the games on nso? How??
Dude i spent hours playing this game when i was a kid, so fun
They're both classics!
I remember playing this game after soccer practice when I was a kid
Always great to play a sports game after a bit of real life sports ⚽
Great video, can you please at some point cover Mario Power Tennis and Mario Tennis Power Tour? I'm a massive fan of the latter and Im currently playing through the story mode.
Funny that you mention that... 😏 Already on it.
@@anotherblowncartridge Nice! I can't wait for that.
Game Boy / GBC - Mario Tennis / Mario Tennis GB (JPN)
You should do a full series overview video!
Thanks for this video!
Thank you for watching it!
The GBC Version is simply amazing! Thanks to the Nintendo Retro Packs on the switch i´m able to play it now. Never played it, never heard of it before. But its so fun, even tho its "just" a GBC game! Feels great to play and even feels pretty 'deep' in the controls because i do have the feeling that u need to place your character just right to hit the ball in the direction u want to. Simply getting the ball in the middle of your char doesnt make the ball jump where u want it to. I really enjoy that 'tactical depth'!
You need a lot of tactics to get farther along in the campaign. Drop shots, lobs... they're all gonna be necessary. Timing, spacing, patience, and speed. Gonna need it all.
I'm glad you're enjoying it!
@@anotherblowncartridge Just had my first Senior Class Match, and i noticed that. Damn, took me an Hour to beat him. 😂😂
@@xzibitboy1000 The senior class matches are NO JOKE. Doubles or singles. Lotta work involved to win.
I’m still waiting for switch to release mario tennis gbc and gba
I too am waiting. Super unfortunate that they haven't released any Mario sports games on the Switch Online portable console emulators.
Our waiting is over, the game will come out tomorrow!!!!
@@ivanzoneBR brooo finally. I couldn’t believe it at first lol I literally posted that comment a week prior
Learn those button combos!
Good old Tario Mennis
The originals don't disappoint
@@anotherblowncartridge you inspired me dig out my N64 and Mario Tennis, I forgot how bloody well it played - feels great.
how come you didnt talk about the girl and her name in the gbc version hhmm hhmm whats her name and her partners name name to to lol lol
Nina and Kate get a shout-out in my video about the GBA and GameCube Mario Tennis games. But yes, I should have mentioned both options for protagonists. Good call.
My god, I was straight trash at this game as a kid 😂 my most hated game on gbc
It takes a while to learn the tennis techniques alongside the gameplay mechanics. After a certain point, the game isn't very easy at all. Difficulty spiked are real in the classic Mario sports games.
Do you have a twitter or facebook?
I dont. Been thinking about making a Twitter.
@@anotherblowncartridge oh ok I just wanted to contact you to see if you would want a be a guest on a retro gaming podcast Gamer Milk we spin a wheel that picks a old game, play it for a week and then we talk out it and if it still holds up, if you did want to join you get to pick the game we play.
@@MrStray Yeah that sounds great! I'd be very interested in doing that. Just gotta coordinate schedules.
@@anotherblowncartridge ok awesome I'll email you
