The 710 HP Ferrari F8 Spider Maxes Out the 458 Platform - One Take

    Ferrari, which resisted for so long, is now deep in the throes of the horsepower war. The new F8 Spider, a top-down version of the F8 Tributo, now makes 710 advertised horsepower. The car is clearly evolved from the 488, which itself is clearly evolved from the 458. The power has gone up, as has the cost of entry. But frankly, what wasn't broke didn't need fixing, and the F8 Spider will likely be the gold standard of mid-engined open top motoring for the next several years.
    CORRECTION: I incorrectly describe the F8's gearbox as being supplied by Graziano, which is incorrect. Ferrari's gearbox supplier for the F8 Trubuto/Spider is Getrag/Magna. Graziano's 7DCT has not been used since the 458/California.
    Ferrari of North America provided the vehicle, insurance and a tank of gas for this review.

      its not really ferrari, its the EU-regulations that makes it quiet. there is more bad news tooo, soon they are putting speed-limiters on cars too, and rev-limits, and more. hopefully they will find ways around this soon because it sounds pretty boring. So far, it seems like all manufacturers are not including the particulate filters for the US market vehicles which muffle a ton of noise. Ferrari, just like every other manufacturer has to comply with the new stricter EU regulations. Even so, it can always be improved with an aftermarket exhaust.

      Agree, that's why sound-wise I prefer way more the V8s from the latest AMG GT models. They too have to adhere to regs but somehow have manage to still make them sound beautiful. I've concluded that great looks without great sound in car is not worth it. It's a car without heart.

      My thought is the large OEMs with tons of production and varied model lines (like toyota, GM, Ford, etc) can essentially subsidize the cost of the infotainment software/hardware development so the costs for an Apple CarPlay are smaller than on a luxury OEM like Ferrari. These radios, screens, and software are not cheap from these suppliers.

    • @phantommedia9964
      @phantommedia9964 Před 4 lety +1

      BMW charged a subscription fee cuz they claimed they had to do work to keep Apple Carplay up to date with their infotainment system (BMW canceled subscription fee cuz of customer/public outcry). I guess Ferrari's strategy is to make customers make a big one-time flat fee to cover the cost of keeping Apple Carplay up to date rather than monthly/yearly subscription.

    Every single exterior design change from 488 to F8 is a downgrade. It seems that whoever is behind the design just looked at the 488 and decided to ruin it.

    This car will only be in production until the beginning of next year! It is just an end of the engine to enter the new rules for 2022! But even so it is absurd, from 280km/h to 290km / h onwards this car is faster than 488 Pista and 720s, my friend instagram.com/c.nv.cardoso/ compared with his Pista and his 720s, and this car has more real top speed than both !! Great content!

    It totally agree with the daily driver argument you make. Pictured left, my '18 NSX.........daily driver. Bulletproof. Canadian winters X2 at -30C and summer of course. +17,000 km on it now. If you can't afford the depreciation, then you can't afford the car.... Cars are meant to be driven....that's why they're cars, not paintings.
