- Mom feels bad that I don't make any money busking and that people ignore me. It was my birthday, so she decided to help me out by trying to attract attention to my empty guitar bag. She's always been proud of her dance skills, so I agreed it was worth a shot. Dad took photos and filmed it for promo, or at least that's what he "told" me. We are thinking of starting a touring minstrel show that will exclusively play retirement homes all over the Yukon. Anyone know a good manager?

I’ve been playing 47 years. Knopfler ain’t easy. You’ve inspired me to throw my guitars out my 3rd floor window into the courtyard.
Lol! Please don’t. There is a simple trick to knopfler. Finger picking, thumb work. Lose the pick, you’ll immediately improve as a player. More tone, more control, more time to think about what you are playing. Play like a bassist, they use fingers. Opens up the fretboard and makes it easier for you to emotionally connect with people. Nothing brings out your own style and personality faster than losing the pick. You have 4 fingers on the right hand. shame to use only one of them.

Started playing fingerstyle in the 1970s when I realized the pick would always end up flying through the air or inside an acoustic anyway after I dropped it. Now trying to relearn after 40+ years off, not easy but what is. Great peace, I love your work.

I have a Dad who doesn't understand art that much BUT he tries. I think his eyeballs almost melted out his ears when i said i wanted to find a way to support myself thru painting.. LoL.
Ah! Idk why its so hard for us creatives But keep going! Like we wouldn't. Its part of who we are. Its a gift.

Really nice that at least some people appreciate your great playing! "Sultans of Swing" is probably the most difficult song I never learned to play since I started in 1969. Allman Brothers, Clapton, Chicago, Skynard in my band days no problem but Knophler, no.

Thanks. I love all those bands, but I never had a problem with DS because I was learning Nashville thumb and finger style picking when I was 15 back in 1977. I was already primed for it and playing Chet Atkins style stuff even before I bought the first DS album. I fell into it quite naturally. To me, Knopfler is like a relaxing bath. Easy going, no wrist pain, leisurely pace and lots of minor keys, which I love. It's the no pick style that most people have problems with. What I had a hard time with was alternate picking. This is why I dropped the pick years ago (kept dropping them anyway) and went full finger style.
Chicago was so dam good until the day music died. I been revisiting some live Chicago thanks to CZcams.

This is one of the songs I listened to on a TWA flight coming from India to Los Angeles, back in 1983, going to my wife via a green card. We are still married today, which brings back so many good memories.

One of the greatest guitarist's street players i h've ever seen on YT, he doesn't always try to reproduce the songs with fidelity but add his own and personnal interpretation, that's on my opinion the hardest thing to do, improvising on guitar is always hard.
