The first thing you have to do is sort your laundry based on colors and the washing temperature required. I know it is tough to keep up if we have too many categories but these are the ones I find most manageable. This obviously is not an exhaustive list - you may have a different segregation process based on the type of clothes that you have
Dark colored clothes esp. Polo shirts
    Light and white colored clothes
Regular use clothes like clothes worn at home
Heavily soiled clothes like kids clothes, jeans
Delicate clothes like woolen, delicate undergarments
Before we get into the temperature discussion, we should be avoiding some of these big mistakes that could also cause clothes to discolor:
The biggest mistake we make is washing dark colored clothes with high heat. This is what causes fading of the clothes. I’m not sure how many polo shirts I have spoiled in the past because I was too lazy to segregate this.
Washing clothes outside-in is another big mistake. It is always recommended to wash clothes inside out - so that we can safeguard colors as well as help disinfect the dirtiest areas of your clothes better.
So once the segregation is done, what is the heat level you should use for your clothes:
When to use HIGH HEAT i.e., 60+ degree centigrade:
High heat is useful for heavily soiled clothes, clothes with oil stains and when you want to get rid of bacteria or fungus from clothing. Typically it is also used for kids clothes, non-delicate undergarments, bed sheets, pillow covers, and kitchen linen, towels, garments with a lot of sweat and oil stains, kids / hospital linen.
The biggest issue with using high heat is that it can cause color to fade and it can shrink some fabrics - so when in doubt, check instructions for that set of clothes or don’t use high heat.
So amongst the segregation I made earlier - only heavily soiled clothes fall under this category
When to use MEDIUM HEAT i.e., 20-40 degree centigrade:
Medium heat can be used for lightly soiled clothes, daily use clothes, synthetic fabrics like nylon, polyester, rayon blends.
So amongst the segregation made earlier - light and white colored clothes, regular use clothes fall under this category.
When to use NO HEAT or LOW HEAT i.e., upto 20 degree centigrade for:
If you want to completely avoid shrinkages and discoloring of your clothes, use cold water. Esp. Dark and bright colored clothes, delicate fabrics should only be washed in cold water. You can also wash your gym clothes - but at the lower temperature of less than 20 degrees only otherwise it can expand any elastic in your tights / leggings.
This approach is also most energy efficient but it is less efficient for removing stains and sanitizing your clothes as heat is not used.
So amongst the segregation made earlier - dark colored clothes and delicate clothes fall under this category.

You're absolutely right I realized this because I was obsessed with washing everything oon hot and once I read all the tags whether they be whites or blacks they all say cold water wash it keeps it from fading and it absolutely does clean it as long as you have enough water and enough space as well as detergent secondly not using too much detergent but just enough and third drying on low instead of high no matter how many times it takes!

Let's start with some simple definitions. 60 is hot. 40 is warm. 30 is lukewarm. 20 is cold. Whites at 60 or higher. Everything else at 40 especially if it includes elastic as higher than 40 will degrade elastic. The best temperature to wash is 40 degrees. Human sebum melts at 30. Enzymes work best at 40. Lower than 30 brings in another problem. What detergent is effective at such a low temperature? I'm not aware of any in the Indian market that advertises performance at such a low temperature. Most detergents with enzymes expect 40-degree water. I don't think there will be a problem with darks at 40. Clothes labels usually mention gentle wash at 30. Gentle at 30 does not do much. That is because the only legal requirement for clothes manufacturers is to provide a safe way to clean the clothes. Not the most effective or best way. The only exception is woollens or silk which you cannot use detergents with enzymes. You may wash those at 30 with Godrej's Eazy. YMMV.

Hi, can you please recommend me the best 5 burner gas stove based on your research? Sorry to say that there is very less option available even on CZcams for ppl who want 5 burner gas stoves. Budget is till 50K (with any applicable discounts). Like usual Indian family, there is heavy cooking (lot of non veg cooking) in my family. I am confused between Bosch, Glen, Elica and Faber. I am also quite confused regarding 90 cm chimneys. I am looking at all the above brands, and bit confused. Kindly help.

Faber bolt 90cm chimney has steam cleaning + 1500m3/hr suction. Not sure if anyother model has this feature

I am also looking for a hob. I am also a big fan of meat and chicken. Looks like Bosch hobs come with FFD by default. Specific models of Glen, Elica, Faber models also has it. Most of the manufacturers are directly importing their burner base assembly and valves from SABAF Italy. So, the wine is the same in different bottles. Look for tempered glass durability/warranty, service cost and quality/availability of service team.

Oh no! Try bleaching it with ala (or equivalent). Most likely it will not go. In that case, you will not get back the color - better to dye it to a different color đŸ„ș

Hi Priya, pure cotton clothes will shrink in a washer dryer. To minimize the shrinking - recommend you to use a laundry bag so the clothes are not wrung that much. Mixed fabrics don't shrink as much.
