What's with the "Karl" pictures? Well, it's from "Llamas with Hats," which was a series of videos. I wouldn't suggest you watch it, but if you do, you won't forget it... probably. It's kind of insanity. - Hry
Karl can certainly get plenty of Clear Sky medals but that's about it. Hope this thing will get buffed. Thanks for the review Tactic👍
I hope they give it something. It feels pretty underwhelming to me currently. Having good AA is really just a consolation prize for being in a match you probably rather wouldn't be in.
Basic Swedish Naval Doctrine: Hide 'N Seek with a heavy dose of "Hippity Hoppity, Get Off my Property" lmao... this thing definitely belongs in the "Weird Bote Emporium", but thats really the only thing that CAN be said at the moment. Definitely gonna need more time with this one to get a better opinion of it.
I find she plays a lot like a Rupprecht

@@Mike-8404 Idk man, I really like the Rupprecht. Ain't hatin' or anything but ol' Karl's got a ways to go before we compare it to Rupp. It's not a bad ship...I do like the AA package
She needs a Comander franz von hipper style,accuracy and secondary build.
Almost anything would be nice. At least it would be an option.

Nice review. It's a boat with a high skill floor. You have the tools to counter it's weaknesses like sonar, AA, torps and secondaries but you really need to position correctly to avoid quick deaths. That's too much to ask from our playerbase so I don't see this ship being played much. To me it's a Brandenburg at T8 with a few differences and it'll have a place in my rotation at T8 since there's not much else to choose from if I need a break from playing Lepants.
Been playing it like a super battle cruiser having good results.
I just unlocked this a couple of days ago. I quite like it but it does have some flaws. Firestarting was decent, but at extreme range I was peppering away and not getting many hits. It seemed a bit vulnerable at three quarter angles. In one battle I had, at short range it ground up a cruiser on one side and took out a half health battleship with tops on the other side. I got hammered by a Minotaur when I got caught napping in open water at mid range.

Well don't let my video take anything away from you. Glad you're enjoying the ship. I think the range probably has more to do with the weak armor and plunging fire penning it's deck than the 3/4ths angle, but it could also be the casemate guns...

Janko is the more fun build
But Helfrich wins on style points. that increased fire chance for all shells is huge. stand or fall is cool too. try unstoppable. Its a neat trick.
main guns are not great so investing in the secondaries is the way to go.
the red team really hates pushing into this thing. you can easily control any area you are in.
Being spotted is not necessarily are bad thing. This ship is a big distraction and if the enemy doesn't pay attention you can roll right over them

Tactic...first of all thank you....great video and review...the "Karl" Llama with a hat (who don't love them a Llama with a hat?) is hilarious...its a tie between you and Xarkun for great subtle dry wit which you really have to listen for...the above along with your historical analysis and background make each video a must watch...as for the ship itself...I like it...I have posted in a couple of other videos that I play it like a Tier 8 Odin...meh at best with good (small) fast firing guns with decent torps, good AA and decent secondaries...she will not win or carry many battles...but the fun factor to me is there as I play her like a oversized cruiser...I just wish I could get a better commander similar to Lutjens from the German side with better handling or speed. Appreciate you sir.
Good analysis. I too consider this ship to be like a large Cruiser and yes, it does bring the fun factor

Honestly, the parrot was the first thing I noticed. It perplexed me so much I had to even ask Blip about it. 🤔🤔🤔 It drove me a bit crazy.
When it comes to WOWSL's 'hypotheticals', I just roll with it. I also don't bother with most Campaign ships, but circumstances lined up nicely for a run at the K14. Have to say, I like her. To my mind, she does well with a brawling battlecruiser mindset, and is simply fun to play. Realize this will deeply offend some ultra-serious number-crunchers, but there you go. :)
Btw, I suggest looking up the person this ship is named for. Arguably, the most interesting figure of the Napoleonic Wars that I never heard of. ;)
Not sure if you caught it (because it is preceded by an awful lot of waffling on about why Sweden would never have purchased this ship), but I did include a (fairly?) condensed summary of the King Karl XIV Johan.
In any case, I'm not trying to take anything away from anyone. If you got Karl and you like her, then more power to you.
@@tacticangel Not disputing what your video says ,not at all.. I would say that K14 isn't just a hypothetical, it's a hypothetical hypothetical. WG's done plenty of those before now. :).
I wouldn't be against WG creating an entire Nation for Sweden based off OG German Battleship designs. The Karl XIV Johan is distinct enough from the PR, why not have an entire line of Swedish BB's based off other German ideas?
There are some actual designs out there for the 20's and 30s Tre Kronor.amd some designs drawn up by Ansaldo in the 40s. I wouldn't mind seeing them as a line, but they'd have to fudge the speed, I would think.

I saved my dubs. Already have most of the german BCs, Karl didnt offer anything interesting enough to bother + i need to level a new commander to 16.
Man, I just can't have a good game in this boat.
It's frustrating and at least some of the CCs think it's XP is bugged.
I've never seen a battleship with worse accuracy. This ship seems horrible. No he pen like the germans low torp damage .really bad main gun and main gun accuracy. There is nothing on the ship that is good about it. We are better off playing ruprecct
a true travesty of how it was translated into legends. it appears the devs misunderstood karl's potential and overly nerfed what made it unique. frankly karl isnt an amazing ship by any means, mainly it was just made to fulfill a unique niche for a bb- that being a torpedo centric capital ship. but of course that simply cannot exist in legends, and it must be watered down to assimilate itself in the backdrop of excessive mediocrity known as t8 battleships. funny how a torpedo battleship has its torp range significantly nerfed, yet iwami (a sniper bb) retains its 15km torps. wg logic on full display.
excellent points.. and true about Tier 8 BB's... why bother even buying them... Oh I remember, so you can get ships from the other complete WG failure - Bureau Ships.....

Easily the worst campaign ship in a very long time. The biggest non starter: being forced to level up one mediocre commander solely for this terrible ship and only this ship, since there are no other Pan Euro BBs or Pan Euro BB commanders. Case in point: Atlantico and her commander are also one offs, but both are amazing and the commander easily slots in as a strong support for secondary builds.

Yeah, if you don't have Janko leveled, it would be really hard to justify getting this one since you're not getting a real good ship out of it.
It's not a bad ship, certainly not the worst campaign we've had. I already had the commander leveled from owning the Viribus Unitas at T4 but I can understand you not wanting to get K Johan without already having Jukovich. I don't play a lot at T8 but if I'm in a division with a Carrier the AA is good on this ship and the quick reload helps out shooting Destroyers. That being said it wouldn't hurt my feelings to see this ship's capabilities buffed...she ain't the best horse in the stable
