you guys made 10x more sense than many big Leafs channels ever do..this was a really good listen..I 100% agree with the Leafs having to blow it up totally but we all know they will never do it cause their fans are already in panic mode lol..#72 subbed, keep them coming guys 👍
OMG, I just checked Toronto only have two 1st round picks, one 3 rd round pick and one 4th round pick for the next three draft.
go look at the past 1st round picks....

The Toronto Maple Leafs should blow up the core 4 cause they will never deliver results in the playoffs consistently. They have had enough chances already get rid of Tavares and trade him for an elite defenceman or goaltender if you could. The Leafs are stuck with Marner cause if they trade him it will cause Matthews to be unhappy. The Leafs are definitely not trading Nylander which means that Tavares is the likely of the core 4 to be traded
Toronto should've traded everything necessary for Matthew Tkachuk when he went to Florida instead. How much more valuable that guy would be over Marner is immeasurable. How to get better is by not falling for meaningless regular season points and make your top earners people who actually deliver when it matters. Change the culture, instead of rewarding kids for the expectations you have, reward the guys who actually grind it out and deliver, like Hyman. But you don't reward hard work, you reward little bitches and so you don't win, simple.
That OT goal was a set play. Boston has stiff board rims, think very similar to Detroit Joe Lewis Arena, the puck bounces a lot and they know it. Boston has actually scored several goals identical to that throughout the season, its a set play, not a lucky play. Marner lost his guy on that play as he was just puck watching.
The problem they have is identity. The core, they know it inside and out, they know Toronto identity. The guys they bring in take a few years to get it. Problem is, by time any of these players start getting it, they need a new contract, and Toronto can't ever afford them so the endless cycle continues. Anyone who is due for a pay raise are all out every year. Last couple years was Bunting, great player, but he was due for a new contract pass his ELC and Toronto couldn't afford anything for him, so he walks. Knies contract is up after next season and he'll walk simply cause he's worth more than 760K or whatever it is he makes now.
Solution, blow up the core. They are way to top heavy. No other team has more than 2 guys anywhere close, let alone over, 10M a season. Get rid of 2 of them, free up 20M+. Currently they have roughly 18M cap space to sign 12 guys, so an average of 1.5M each. Sure you can get a team with that, but these will be low end older players that can't keep pace like they once did or rookies. Get rid of 2 and need 14 guys on the team instead with 38M to play with. That's enough to get a star goalie, another excellent D-man or two, and a deeper far more capable forward group where even the 3rd and 4th line can score on a regular basis. And this can save some cap for Woll after next season along with Knies, both make approx 760K now and both will demand at least 4-5M raises. Failure to free up this cap just means the cycle continues. Rant finished
Marner and Taveres have nmc. The problem stems from the top assuming Shanahan okayed long term nmc contracts, which I am sure he did. They got rid of Kadri, who, despite his stupidity in playoffs, and Hymen. Both were gritty playoff players. Dubus took 6 years to to figure out that puck possession and perimiter play doesn't work in playoffs. They won't win with their best players not showing the determination and leadership to elevate their game.
Shanahan should have been first to go. Fire him already!

ya but every year they brag they'll win the cup yet they can't accept they prefer seeing Matthews score 69 goals rather than tearing down the team and actually win.
Kyle Dubas utterly fucked the team by trying to have his cake with Tavares, UNPROVEN Marner/Matthews/Nylander, Rielly and eat it too. 4 finesse Forwards and a Defenceman who's a #2 AT MOST on any other team in the League.
Dump tarves and marner for a good defensive duo, theyre always rush based hockey and give up pucks with extended passes, they need actual defense
Both have no trade in their contracts and will only go on their own accord...both have 1 season left after which we know Tavares wont be back for more than maybe 3 mill anyways. Expect nothing next season.
TO players excel when leaving TO... why? Because the fan base and local media are the most oppressive. You can't play at your best when you are more worried about screwing up, than just playing your game. 2nd issue has been clear for years... half the cap on four players was just plain stupid. Solid team defense with decent goaltending wins cups and you can't get it with no money left. Blame the leaf of your choice right now leaf fans, but this mix is too top heavy.
They did this to themselves. You don’t sign unproven players to big bucks and long contracts. You just do that. Now they are stuck. Oh well
They are afraid to play in playoffs. They are expected to lose so they have that in their pyches. As for Boston, the organization has always had the philosophy that you play Bruin style hockey - tough determined And team focused.Look at the history of high draft picks that they got rid of because they didn't fit their system or identity Jumbo Joe, Suguin, Kessel. They expect a certain amount commitment and determination to play for the organization. LEAFS can't win with these players. They are immature kids who are overpaid for their results. They are handcuffed because of nmc for all 4 core players, unless players waive it. Try to get something for Marner that improves D. Let Tavares finish his contract. He tries even though his skills have deteriorated because of age. If he can still get 60 to 70 points next year, offer a 2 or 3 year deal at 5m If he doesn't want that, let him walk. NYLANDER contract will be an albatross around their necks for years. He is lazy now. Imagine what he will be like at 34 or 35. And he still will have nmo clause!!!! They are stuck, unless Leafs can get these primadonnas to waive nmc.
Not allow sensitive entitled over compensated kids to play for the team and allow adults who dont want to hurt said kids feelings to run the team..just a thought.

As a Flames fan who had to deal with Treliving for as long as we did, I just personally believe that anything is better than him, that including Dubas. -Simon
@@TrickPlayPod Dude the damage Dubas did to the Leafs will be felt for yrs to come. He left to cuoboard bare of draft picks , over paid every one. One example , Nick Foligno for a 1st round draft pick. Every year it was trade draft picks for free agents that didn't help and in the end didn't stay. The leafs won't be out from underneath his black cloud of doom for at least two more seasons.
