    You guys got the Seahawks-Rams 2021 playoff game bassackwards. Goff already had a broken hand and Wolford started and got hurt. Goff came in and won it despite just having had surgery on his thumb of his throwing hand including tossing a key 4th qtr TD. I never bought the McVay driven narrative about Goff being the problem in LA.

      Oh shit, you’re totally right-I think as a hawks fan I’ve tried to wipe that game from my memory-was an absolute embarrassment for us no matter who was at QB. To your point, that was likely a preview of the talent Goff still had-that I and others have been proven wrong to ignore - Caleb

  • @Todtodtodtod
    @Todtodtodtod Před měsícem

    It’s almost like the lions actually wanted Goff in 2021 and if you actually look at interviews and press-conferences with Holmes and Campbell at the time they publicly stated that Goff was their guy. For some reason even now that they’ve had success with Goff, every talking head is STILL regurgitating the same baseless “Goff was a bridge QB” narrative. News flash it’s possible for different franchises to have deferent evaluations of the same player.

    I don’t think that you should write JJ off right off the rip. Jason Kidd became a coach the season after he retired as a player and now he’s leading the Mavs to the conference finals. JJ’s analysis of the game is better than any other analyst in the game right now. He has the brains for it

    • @TrickPlayPod

      Totally fair-just one of those things that feels like a pretty ballsy bet at this point. Even though examples like Kidd prove that it CAN work, plenty of other former players have flamed out as coaches. Especially given how weird that player/coach relationship potentially will be given his podcast with LeBron, I don’t know that the Lakers is the place for him. Would make sense for a team to take a chance on him at some point-and yes, he deserves a chance before we totally write him off-the Lakers at this point in time just doesn’t feel right to me - Caleb

  • @WesVikis
    @WesVikis Před měsícem

    From the jump, you guys are off on your take. It is true that the media, pundits, and even Detroit fans saw Goff as a throw-in. But Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell believed in Goff from jump. Never once did anyone who is actually paid by the Detroit lions ever hint or suggest he was a throw-in or bridge QB. I might believe the argument of "what else are they going to say" except the Brad Holmes (who was on the Rams staff pre McVey) was one of the scouts pounding the table for the Rams to trade up to 1 and select him. For clarification, I believe Brad Holmes fleeced the Rams when it came to the Stafford trade, he knew Sean wanted Goff gone. And he knew the 49ers wanted Stafford as well, it's absolutely highly likely that Brad took advantage of his old squad. He is a Villain after all.

    • @TrickPlayPod
      @TrickPlayPod Před měsícem

      That’s totally fair-I think at that point in both Goff’s career and the Lions rebuild it was hard to see him as anything but a bridge QB. But to the Lions credit, you’re absolutely right, they seemed to always believe in him. I think I and many others got caught up in that narrative because frankly, it didn’t make sense to do anything else. But we were all slowly proven wrong over time, and is a testament to how Holmes and the Lions management in general have managed to think differently than the rest of the league, much to their credit. And who knows, maybe they’ll be proven right with this contract too!

    Good job guys, you put a picture of Carr. Aiden was a projected 1st round pick if he declared in '22. He was the second highest rated rookie QB last year behind CJ Stroud. This should be called the "We've kinda heard some things so listen to us" podcast.

    • @TrickPlayPod
      @TrickPlayPod Před měsícem

      Not exactly sure what metric you’re using to determine that O’Connell was the second highest rated rookie quarterback last year. While both didn’t have nearly as much time on the field, both Levis and Richardson had more impressive seasons with higher upside. Both had higher passer ratings last season than O’Connell. And in terms of him being a first round pick last year-first of all, gonna need to see a source for that one cause I don’t think I have ever heard that from anywhere, and secondly, that’s the draft that made Kenny Pickett a first round pick, so the bar isn’t exactly high. I sincerely doubt that any NFL team would have used a first rounder on him in 2022, and if they had, it would have only been because the drought of QB talent in that draft was horrific. We don’t mean to just shit on O’Connell though. Personally, I think he had a great rookie season and greatly outperformed his draft stock. If he continues to improve next year and solidifies his position within the team, I’ll be gladly wrong. I just think it’s not realistic at this point to project him as the next great Raiders starting qb, as many in the comments seem to be doing. Unless O’Connell has a spectacular second season, the Raiders biggest need by far will continue to be QB.

    They are afraid to play in playoffs. They are expected to lose so they have that in their pyches. As for Boston, the organization has always had the philosophy that you play Bruin style hockey - tough determined And team focused.Look at the history of high draft picks that they got rid of because they didn't fit their system or identity Jumbo Joe, Suguin, Kessel. They expect a certain amount commitment and determination to play for the organization. LEAFS can't win with these players. They are immature kids who are overpaid for their results. They are handcuffed because of nmc for all 4 core players, unless players waive it. Try to get something for Marner that improves D. Let Tavares finish his contract. He tries even though his skills have deteriorated because of age. If he can still get 60 to 70 points next year, offer a 2 or 3 year deal at 5m If he doesn't want that, let him walk. NYLANDER contract will be an albatross around their necks for years. He is lazy now. Imagine what he will be like at 34 or 35. And he still will have nmo clause!!!! They are stuck, unless Leafs can get these primadonnas to waive nmc.

  • @rossjackson2929
    @rossjackson2929 Před měsícem

    Marner and Taveres have nmc. The problem stems from the top assuming Shanahan okayed long term nmc contracts, which I am sure he did. They got rid of Kadri, who, despite his stupidity in playoffs, and Hymen. Both were gritty playoff players. Dubus took 6 years to to figure out that puck possession and perimiter play doesn't work in playoffs. They won't win with their best players not showing the determination and leadership to elevate their game.

Let's not forget that Huberdeau led the team in scoring. I can't think of another case where a team scoring leader was actually not very good but was elevated by players who got fewer points than he did. The fact of the matter is he was good in Florida, he sucks on the Flames. I don't think anyone really knows why, despite claiming to have the answers.
