Legit gonna do this for my Ninja 400 later on.
I've seen before / after footage of night time riding (especially in intersections), and the bikes go from being practically pitch black invisible (even with headlights on) from the side, to being unmissable by anyone within 1km.
Absolutely brilliant safety feature, and the fact it looks cool as fuck is a bonus.
I'd say LED wheels are more accurately "lights save lives" than "loud pipes save lives".
I'm thinking there might be a way to either add a "rim" on the outside of the lightstrip so it isnt directly visible, but just the glow from it (and the glow from the top will still illuminate the ground below etc). Or wrapping them around the hub of the wheel instead to again mostly get the glow without the high intensity LED bulbs showing much.

I've had the same idea of lighting up my rims with led's for a long time but I always thought they would just look ugly covered in glue like you guys thought. Now I know how to get around it like you guys did just wrap the rim then glue it. My other thought was that they wouldn't last very long either durability wise. I'd love to see an update after the show and see if they are still working.
