Simple answer to the balance issue is to built a flexible pack of batteries in series that wraps around the hub instead of a big honkin pack stuck to one side.
Your video inspired me and I did this to my two fat tire mountain bikes and the comments I get thanks for the idea goes for safety and never got pulled over by the cops lol people definitely see you coming.
Surely it affects the balancing of the wheels and could ruin your bearings? I know the bulk of the weight change is near the hub but there will still be an impact.
ready for some geek, it will actually make no difference, anything attached to the hub will only get centrifugal force. it will only be getting pulled outwards, from the motion of the spin. but it shouldn't affect the wheel in any manor unless it comes loose then flys out.
@@kallumbmx The centrifugal force will have an effect on the opposing bearings in the hub, the wheels would need rebalancing also because of the the led strip cabling.
Nice mod...certainly does the job - the effects look great I'd rather run power to the wheel with brushes - I'd be worried about the weight imbalance with the battery.
You should of gotten a Lunasee HiViz system that uses a high power UV LED that attaches to the fork or frame that energizes the special glow tape on the rims
I don't understand the need for the big heavy tool battery? They are LED strips so use hardly any power and you would only have them turned on a short while at night... so all they need is a tiny power pack which could be USB rechargeable? Then you could neatly strap to the hub with some zip ties and barely see it.
Typically the smaller the pack the less the mah, you could use a 12v 3S Lithium Polymer battery, commonly used on RC drones. From experience a 2200mah one will last about 1.5 hours before the voltage gets to low but you can attach a voltage reader that will alarm when the voltage gets too low.
I guess it's too much to ask for common sense from 'muricans. Of course the parts and shipping is expensive, it's from Finland :D It's the same thing vice versa, the shipping from US to Finland costs arm and leg. You can easily buy all the parts from Ebay, Amazon, DX.com whatever you prefer.

You know how much time, effort and money that would take? It's like converting a car to generate energy by applying alternators to the wheels! Plus it's easier to use a power bank that can last a weekand you can take it off and put it right back on.

Better off using double face tape to the wheel, thin stuff... but making sure you use 3M™ Tape Primer 94
Should of used a black led strip or el tape and you should put spoke covers on to hide the wires a little.
