This is the absolute best tutorial that I have seen. I wasn't able to do updates on my computer for Windows 10 for at least 3 weeks. I literally try to update my computer almost 10 times minimum restarted it over 20x. Found this video that walked me through the process and it worked immediately!!! THANK YOU!!!

Fantastic work ! Had my new computer 3 months ago and each Windows 11 update just gave me more update errors and filled update history with daily "unsuccessful" records. Tried so many you tube fixes but generally failed until your video showed a simple step by step solution that worked first time!
Just one question. So happened after following your initial steps, sfc /scannow completed successfully, but what IF it showed errors like my previous attempts ? Should I try online scanhealth and restore health? (sorry, I just checked your proposed solution to this scenario in your reply to CCJmusic question below, just one day earlier ! You are the best !!)

I updated from 10 to 11 on unsupported hardware. I kept all settings, data and apps. Windows update kept trying to update with Win 10 updates and was failing.
After this procedure Win 11 updates came through.

A couple folders would not delete, so I went to next step. Windows 10 update completed! I'm so excited! I pay for tech support, and they just gave me the contact info for Microsoft. You can't get through to them. I followed your instructions, and I am so thankful. I didn't have that setting on "automatic". I only have one other problem. I lose acces to my external KB/mouse, but a restart usually fixes it. tech support updated drivers, or deleted them and they would reinstall. I just can't find a solution to this. I have fresh batteries in both HP mouse, HP Keyboard. thank you so much!

Well explained, unfortunately no update took place although I done step by step process.
Try Repairing Windows
Search cmd then run as admin and execute the following 3 commands one by one-
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Restart.
Once Done Trying Running System File Checker SFC Scan
sfc /scannow
Restart.
Windows Updates-
Install all the latest Updates and then Restart the PC.

HUGE THANKS! I upgraded from Win10 Pro to Win11 Pro on my "unsupported" Lenovo laptop, and as the updates started rolling they got stuck on (kb4023057) error 0x80248014. The update started but failed at 10% and then the battle with the error began. I tried various different tutorials and was having regrets for upgrading to Win11, but then I followed the steps in this tutorial and IT SOLVED THE ISSUE! Thanks again for your work. 💙

@@johnblaza6487yes they are deleted after you update ur gonna be on same windows account but all ur files pictures videos screenshots applications and games will be deleted except ur programs so sign in to onedrive and back up everything and u will be able to claim them

If windows is not letting you delete the files in “Software Distribution” because it says they are “being used by another program” then restart your PC and then try again.

i just updated my ethernet to a different driver and that solved me the windows encountered problem, if u dont have a ethernet then idk.

Didn't help me at all, but I stumbled into something that did. Keep in mind I just updated to Win11 from Win10 this afternoon, keeping all my programs and files. Update went fine, except when I went to the Windows Download, there was the yellow circle with an exclamation point, and two Windows 10 files that are stuck there and won't install, nor do they ever leave the queue. I went through your procedure twice, and nothing changed. Tried a few other things which did nothing.
Then I did something that fixed it, just as I was going to "go back to Win10." After you update to Win11, under Windows Update, there's an option to go back to Win10. I chose that, and it asked me a few questions, and then gave me a choice to try updating Win11 to see if it would fix the issues. I clicked that and this time the Win10 files that were stuck there disappeared and it downloaded and installing Win11 updates. It's always something isn't it.
I did this update to Win11l on an old computer, using a script to get it to load Win11, and my first reaction to Win11 is I don't like it, but I don't know how much of that is I'm used to Win10. I'm not going to do Win11 on my newer computer because I've read it doesn't always play nice with FS2020. Having lived through Vista and Windows 8, two really stupid versions of Windows, I just think Bill Gates is making Windows too much about pushing Bing and Edge etc. on people. Cortana, for example, was idiotic. I wasted so much time trying to make that useful.

Are some processors incompatible with later updates? My PC has failed to update since 1803 and I read that my CPU (i7 4770k) isn’t supported after that version. My PC is constantly trying to update and I have to keep setting it to update at a later date. But every so often I have to just let it try and fail again. I hadn’t seen anywhere else about CPUs being incompatible with certain versions of the OS, is this true, or was I misinformed?

@@gamingdah yeah, it hasn't updated for years now. It is stuck with a version from before it switched to the 2Hxx designation for version.

Great ! Worked for me ! The only thing that didn’t go smoothly was : I couldn’t delete everything in the Software Distribution folder. I was not able to delete the DataStore file, I,kept getting messages : unable to delete as in use. So I went ahead regardless and now my pc is updating ! I noticed it was toggled to ‘manual’ ….🎉

Did not work. Could not delete the DataStore folder and ReportingEvents text file in the Software Distribution folder as they were apparently in use. I had no choice but to carry on with the rest of your instructions. I still have the same problem however, i.e., Windows Intelligence Update Install error - 0x00000000.
Reset your pc then install all the updates

@@Ten-ThousandBees69420 You can just pause the update for 7 days and then try again. I did it and it worked for me.
I have not tried these steps but the latest Windows 10 cumulative update installs it crashes the PC so it will not boot to the Windows Login screen even. After rebooting many times it might remove the update so now it boots up, you can login but as soon as this update installs again the whole problem starts over. I have this problem on 3 computers running Windows 10 and have not found a fix yet. I even manually down load the update and installed it and got the same results.

You should go to the services page (4:34) and stop the Windows Update Service. This Service still uses the files and therefore the files cannot be deleted.

Hey I tried to follow your steps but can't get past the deletion of the Software Distribution Data Store folder as it says it's currently being opened by Windows Update, which I can't use. It doesn't work! Someone added malware to my laptop and I think they done something to it. OI also need to enable TPM 2.0 and secure boot on my Lenovo laptop but I'm finding it hard?

I did all of that but mine still says I’m “missing important security and quality fixes” without letting me update. This has been normal for a long time and the PC will randomly tell me I have an update over and over again without this message going away
