Error- Windows 10 update error something went wrong.
We could not complete the installation because an update service was shutting down.
There may be different error messages as well, follow these methods to fix them all.
1. Restart - A simple way to check.
2. Start Windows Update Service, BITS Service, and Windows Installer Service.
3. Run Windows update troubleshooter.
4. Delete the SoftwareDistribution folder.
5. Force delete the SoftwareDistribution folder.
cmd commands for method 5.
net stop bits
net stop wuauserv
ren %systemroot%\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.bak
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
net start bits
net start wuauserv

Tried all steps and still getting errors. Also lost all sound devices. Have even tried to reset pc and windows keeps undoing changes.

If you have uninstalled edge then that might be the issue. Need to reinstall it then do update.

I have gone through every video and yours is the only one that actually worked to fix the issue.
I tried 5 different ways and this was the only one that fixed it. Deleting from my software distribution really helped I had over 400,000 items to remove thank you so much

The updates caused my computer to wake up at night without the cooling fan running. In the morning the computer was burning hot and smelling, fortunately it didn't fail but this happened twice due to forced updates during night time. I had to switch the Active hours to force the update to happen during day time when I can check my computer. Just another problem from Uselessoft

Unfortunately I can't make any changes in the services app, when I follow your steps and select "automatic, then apply" I get an error "access denied". 🤦🏾♂️

Today i downloaded Windows Update Assistant. It downloads automaticly the newest update.
Its Microsoft's software.

I've tried all the steps and still have no luck getting the latest windows update to install KB5015807, I had previously replaced my HDD to and SSD. I did so, by cloning the HDD data to my SSD with the Samsung Migration tool, IDK if that might be part of the problem. Any advice guys? 😢

Just to shoehorn in probably the most likely thing first - Check your network cable is in! You get this error when you're not connected to the internet (as have just realised on one pc am updating)
None of these worked for me. It's always showing Error Encountered. 😢

After more than a year i found out i had a service called stopupdates10 on my computer. I found it on my task manager and after deleting all files making yp the service and disabling a service called "stopupdates10 guard" i could finally update windows.
