Honestly the CX30 AWD skyactiv X is perfect for soft roading. A standard automatic should be better than a CVT and definitely a DSG for mild off roading. Plus it seems like the new off road mode offered in some countries works extremely well. When I move back to Australia I'm going to look very closely at getting one of these as it ticks all my boxes. It should hold its value very well too.
Absolutely. The automatic is great in my opinion and surprisingly frugal. As for the AWD, we've tested the Mazda 6 AWD years ago in full snow (not on camera, unfortunately) and it was extremely good. Obviously we're talking about soft off-roading.
@@Pit-Stop I ended up getting the CX30 G25 Astina AWD. It has a very similar amount of power (even a tad more than the X20) and only very slightly worse fuel economy. But the main reason is that there is almost no availability of the X20 in Australia, most likely because it comes at a 4K premium over the G25 Astina (top trim) without many benefits. In any case I'm very happy with my purchase! Thanks for the great review!
just ordered cx30 x AT had new 3 manual G ...3 is driver dream although I spending too much time in traffic and keep shifting gears can be nackering...also for small family of 3 found mazda 3 with too small boot space.. hopefully handling and joy of driving stays with my new cx30🙂
Please stop lying to people with "it shifts so nicely and better than DSG". I bought a 3 with this exact engine and transmission and it's the worst piece of crap transmission in the world. It jerks on upshifts, it jolts forward when shifting off-accelerator, it shakes the whole engine sometimes, sometimes when shifting from 1 to 2 it just stops accelerating for 1 second at all.
He is not lying,if he was reviewing your car he would be lying ! I have driven this spec and i fully concur with his comments, so much so i am about to order one.
I don't even think he's bought anything. Just ranting.

Cmon… I don't know where is the truth, but I have been arguing with dealership and our country importer for a year and it didn't bring any results. “We did not find any differences in a behavior of your car.” There are many threads on the internet with no solution. People either sell it or get used to it. Google “mazda 3 automatic jerking”. And not even talking about the other issues - suspension knocks, brakes vibrating at 15k km, engine rattling, dash rattling, b pillars rattling, door seals squaking, thermostat failing (car randomly cools down on highway etc.), peeling paint from bumper, paint chipping everywhere, scratched interior even when using microfiber cloths, key is falling apart after year and a half… the car is just a piece of polished turd.

You are lying, or you just bought a lemon. It is one of the transmissions i have ever used on a car. So smooth. on par with a BMW's ZF.
