  • The 2020 Mazda CX-30 might sound like it's a conventional SUV/crossover, but in reality it carves its own path thanks to a great driving experience and SkyActiv-X engine technology. But does it have the space and quality to steal sales from best-sellers such as the Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai? Chris Knapman finds out in this CarGurus UK review.

    I'm not being funny, to get any 0-60 time you have to RAG IT... so what is the difference? That isn't a minus. It isn't supposed to be FAST... Its a compact SUV! reviewers really get on my nerves!!

      Modern consumers are used to turbo charged engines. Because of that it seems fair to point out that to get the horse power that you would expect based on what it says on the spec sheet from a naturally aspirated engine, it requires a slightly different driving style. Whether or not that is an issue really depends on your own driving style and preferences. But important enough to note as it is such a big part of the "character" of the engine.

    This seems to be the best sized car for me. I want something slightly bigger and better inside than a golf but don’t want the size of the Ateca which is massive. I live with my girlfriend and dog and this size car, including all of the features it has, seems brilliant.

    Idk why everyone is picking on the size of the back seats and trunk. When you have a family you will naturally buy a bigger car. I could not care less about my back seats. In my last 3 cars noone ever sat in the back. And the trunk is huge if you are single. I could fit my whole household in it.
    And I love that it feels more like a hatchback. It is so much fun to drive.

    I love our CX30 its BRILLIANT as in the video the interior is beautiful and excellent build quality Yes it is small in the rear (I don't have kids) but it is a small SUV the Sports trim level is great with all the spec you need the none touch screen is a brilliant safety feature you never loose sight on the road while using it plus the climate controls are separate so no need to fiddle with a touch screen to use them The power of the Skyactive X engine with the automatic six speed box is all you need on these crowded roads in the UK with good fuel return I fully agree with David (Great video mate) The CX30 looks beautiful most small SUV's look boxy The CX30 is a lovely car for anyone who likes comfort, style and a nice pleasant driving experience and I love ours the electric memory seats and side mirrors mean my wife and I have no problem getting an excellent driving position I would recommend anyone to buy a Mazda CX30 or the CX3 I have had a C Class Mercedes before but even if I had the choice I would get the CX30 I am so confident in this car (Ex Advanced Blue light driver) I would recommend it to anyone Great video David thank you PS if you need to hard wire a dash cam take it to your dealer Mazda CX30's are Brilliant Bear Hull

    Mazda have some of the best interiors around just now. Premium feeling materials, interesting design and a great balance between using modern infotainment while keeping physical controls where they still work better. I currently drive an Audi A6 nearing the end of a PCP and feel Audi cabins (always their USP) have really gone backwards and some VWs now actually feel low rent whereas Mzda are getting interiors spot on.

    Mazdas have very good steering. The CX-5 has more leg room for the back seat, and more upper luggage space, for a higher price. To me the Crosstrek has better brake feel, but the steering and suspension feel more numb, and it feels less powerful when taking off for a green light. Also, the mid-level Mazdas have more features than the mid-level Subarus. The Subarus are a better deal if you want all wheel drive. I prefer the feel and reliability for a regular Mazda 6 speed automatic transmission, instead of a CVT automatic transmission.

    I've driven both the 3 and the CX30 with the X engine. The latter had a manual gearbox. The car had no top end - Sixth gear was like an overdrive so if you wanted extra speed on the motorway you have to drop the gears. The 3 which I drove had an automatic gearbox - much much better. Kickdown was rapid. Incidentally, there is no indication what gear one is in in the auto. If I bought one of these it would have to have the autobox (6-speed). Performance of the X-engine is a million miles away from my 2 litre petrol Audi, however.

    • @aalb1970

    • @sidewalk__
      @sidewalk__ Před 3 lety

      A lot of people consider it a rival to the Nissan Qashqai and as you mentioned, the Seat Ateca - this makes sense as the Mazda SUV lineup has the CX-30 in the middle, and the Ateca and Qashqai are in similar positions in the lineups of their respective companies. However, since Mazda discontinued the CX-3, the CX-30 is the smallest SUV and in my opinion is too small to compete with larger cars that it's often compared to. While the CX-30 is in my opinion comparable to the VW T-Roc, Nissan Juke, Renault Captur or Volvo XC40, it's the CX-5 that competes with the Qashqai and Ateca. If it was sold in Europe, the CX-9 would compete with larger SUVs such as the Nissan X-Trail or VW Toureg.

    It’s not strictly a NA engine. It actually has a small supercharger which if for achieving the lean air fuel ratios it uses when operating in compression ignition mode (though it is not truly CI either, but spark controlled compression ignition, using a spark to ignite a locally richer fuel air mix first, the using the pressure rise from that event to trigger the lean mixture by compression).
