    Car looks excellent in that matte grey/yellow accents. I love the new look dash and cabin. It's simple, focused and very luxuriously pleasing on the eyes, definitely a cut above the competition. Was very impressed with voice command/activation system and Burmester audio. Fantastic review Thomas.

    Definitely my favourite Mercedes. Really cool car with great tech. I like the yellow accents too. It’s cool to see anything that really stands out. But yeah, this is just the warmup for the EQA. That’s going to be really special I think. And something that Tesla are unlikely to get to any time soon if at all. A premium compact EV.
    And the voice control is really impressive. So much safer and more convenient than touch screens or buttons. In the car is probably the most important place to have voice control. I can imagine everyone using it when it’s that good.

    Great review. Been driving an A-Class for 4 years now it'll go back this June. While the new A-Class seems to be a giant upgrade it also went up in price which for the class makes it quite a bit undesirable, the entry price is almost as high as for the C-Class which IMHO would be an overall better choice.
    I have to admit the cup holders in the rear middle seat are a funny idea :P

    Hello Thomas I need your help !!
    I've been watching your reviews for like 2 years now and I finally have the opportunity to get a car (used A class).
    Problem is that I've only found A180d so far no A200(d or petrol). I only drive in town most of the time still I'm afraid of the lack of power with the A180d. What are your thoughts on the A180d vs A200d ? Can the A180d be enough for city driving accelerations ?
    Thanks a lot and keep up the good work there !

    What I love about the A class is how the Collaboration with Renault make the engines very efficient and reliable when compared to other German cars within the segment. Also, the style is excellent. Futhermore, the comfort is much greater than with an Audi or a BMW. Mercedes are certainly on another level to Audi and BMW.

    Some more remarks and details:
    - 1st driving round with the A250 and 30°C and AC on and some more varying landscape we scored 9 l / 100 km as we have shown, in a 2nd round we tried with 20°C and AC off and more steady driving/cruise control and scored 6,5 l / 100 km. Seems the AC has a big effect here. So we calculate with something around 8 l / 100 km as a daily average consumption.
    - if you want to see the inductive charging platform, here it is: www.autogefuehl.de/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/InduktiveLadeschale_MercedesAKlasse.jpg
    - that's how the "Augmented Reality" in the GPS looks like: www.autogefuehl.de/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/MercedesAKlasse_AugmentedRealityNavi.jpg
    It is a neat feature, displays directions and also house numbers, but on the camera screen. So it is not really Augmented Reality, since this would display something in reality and not on a artificial screen. It is helpful for the co-driver, but not for the driver as it distracts you while driving and you cannot see it that fast. Maybe for very slow speeds.
    - The blind spot monitor function also works when standing still, e.g. a bicycle is approaching and you want to get out of the car, you the the visual and acoustic warning when you are about to open the door, awesome feature!
    - We drove a small round in the A200 later, that one will probably be about 1,5 l / 100 km consumption less than the A250, also offers COD (cylinder on demand) in combination with the optional automatic gearbox. Power is totally sufficient, on the motorway you feel that the A250 is more "explosive" of course.
    - The comfort seats (in contrast to the sports seats) are not that much different, actually they even felt a little smaller/more narrow than the sports seats. Looking forward to test the base fabric seat variant at a later stage, maybe that base seat will even offer the best comfort since the seat concept will be more "open". However the base seat will not have the manual seat surface extension option like the sports and comfort seats have.

      I guess you don't know that this A250 AMG line version costs more than 60000 euros, and it's not even a full AMG, it's just a FWD 2.0 4 cylinder with some fancy AMG looking equipment. It's more expensive than the C class lol.

    • @skagerstrom
      @skagerstrom Před 6 lety +5

      Depends on the country I guess. I live in Sweden and here, if I choose a 250 and add stuff like AMG Exclusive and Premimum Plus package it costs around 40 000 euro. MB's packages is a real mess but I just added AMG and Exclusive to make a car that wasn't naked. Now - 40 grand for a A class is not cheap in any way - but with the new interior it's not as horrible as before. Now it's fancier inside than a A3 or 1-series. Looks a bit vulgar in my mind but still - not as cheap as the old A class compared to it's rivals.

    • @desroin
      @desroin Před 6 lety +1

      The price went up quite a bit, previously an A 180 was 28k starting price now we're already at over 30k for the starting car. I drove my 2014 A Class as a company car for 4 years now and while I love it through and through for a compact car I went with a cheaper one now that I give up the company driving. It really is rather expensive :/

    • @skagerstrom
      @skagerstrom Před 6 lety

      28k for the old one was just stupid though :P The newer one at least appears to be a premium product. Are you missing anything from the Merc in your new cheaper car?

    • @desroin
      @desroin Před 6 lety +1

      Not much, the cheaper manufacturers have a tendancy to keep up after a couple of years (my old one was a 2014 A Class). However there are a couple of differences that you don't notice at first. For example you can abuse the breaks in a Mercedes without them having to be replaced too quickly. Cheaper manufacturers have a weak spot there.
      Also things like rusting exhaust pipes are almost no issue on Mercedes cars, pretty much all the things you wont see in a car review because it's about durability.
      Otherwise assistance systems, overall comfort etc. are on par (let alone the cheaper one has more hard plastic and less soft touch material but that never was an issue to me).
      Another thing Mercedes always gets perfectly right are the seats, Mercedes seats are so good I'd love to have one as an office chair, even the box standard ones are just that good :P
      On the other hand my A-Class had issues I'd never expected like after one year my cludge pedal started squeaking because apparently there was a rubber part inside the pedal that was faulty or after 2 years the filler cap broke (as a company car I didn't have to pay for it but replacing the filler cap would have cost me 600 bucks since the whole internal mechanism just broke).
      P.S.: mine did cost 33k in the end but if I'd want to have all the same goodies I'm now more in the direction of 36k on the A-Class and you could really get a C-Class T-Modell for that already o_o

    Another great review Thomas. I have never really considered Mercedes when buying a new car, they always seemed a bit "old manish" to me, (I am only 70 after all) This car, however, has really blown me away. I am just so impressed with the level of standard equipment in even the base model. I know it is fairly expensive, but spec the same level of equipment in a Golf and the prices would be quite similar. The "Hey Mercedes" feature is absolutely awesome and I would buy the car just for that alone! But the whole dashboard layout with the two screens is way beyond any other car I have ever seen. I have a very strong feeling that this will be my next car, probably finished in white. Thanks Thomas, keep up the good work.

    Thomas, I drove the new E Class for about 2K km and the navigation system crashed twice while driving (and it takes ages to reboot) and the emergency braking and belt fastening systems operated numerous times for simply no reason (even when no car was around). - I find it hard to believe that you never encountered such incidents (Mercedes or not Mercedes) as I don't recall you commenting about such incidents.
    Such incidents are extremely important for prospect buyers of cars as it can be very annoying (at best) and extremely dangerous (I once had the automatic brake system braking really hard for no reason while driving in a tunnel with a truck on my tail!).

      I agree.and strange what happened with your E class experience. The only thing I encountered here was that the camera was not working once, you had to reboot the engine for that

    I have a late 2019 A Class AMG line and I am disappointed by Traffic Assist, with respect to speed signs. The system often gets it wrong or just doesn't give a speed limit indication.

    Dear Thomas, as you may know the paddles are off side more to the left they are not in middle of floor , therefore when I drive a medium journey I feel pain in my food as I have to lean my lower food more toward left , and change the pattern of my sitting ..

    Beautiful car but here in Canada 4Matic is a MUST when you live here on Vancouver Island with lots of rain. Orange or red would go better with that colour.

    Same old story with Mercedes, with every new model the wheelbase increases, the overall length increases but the knee room in the rear remains basically the same. Where does the room go ? Same happened with the C,E, and CLS Class ...

    i'm so curious how the A35 and A45 amg's will be like and at what price tags. Would love to do a test drive in a full option A-class just to see how everything works while driving. Cause yeah you can go through the mbux in the dealership. But how well the safety features work, how much the camera's help, how the automatic gearbox reacts in different modes and how the suspension feels when it's an adaptive one etc. Unfortunately I only see the more basic versions in my area at dealerships. If there is a difference between them, if there are multiple in the showroom, it's that one has the amg-line package and the other doesn't.

    Very nice review again. The only point that was missing is how this A class stops automatically if the driver does not hold the steering wheel.

    What's the difference with the a180 amg and a180 amg executive. Is it worth the upgrade and why?
