I normally take public transport, I have a licence but never felt ready to buy a car, but I rented for the drive to our alton towers stay and I instantly fell in love, so happy it's the cheapest Mercedes car because its soooo worth it.
What's with all the hate? There has never been a better looking A-class or any better looking hatchback in my opinion. In love with the new design.
My hate isn't with the looks or driving feel. And it goes to all cars. It's the tech in side i have a serious issue with. Lane assist. If you can't change lanes properly without assistance, you shouldn't be driving, as simple as that. All this technology does, as good as it may seem to people, is make them lazy drivers, reliant on sensors and gizmos to do the work for them. It's dangerous imo.

@@dodo19923 in some cases, as the Tesla autopilot has shown, it can react quicker than a human and can save lives (in rare cases it can fail and take lives as well but that is as I said, much rarer). Such gizmos can help you get through a whole day of driving without becoming dead tired. For some, of course this results in laziness but let's hope the useful stuff is going to stay and the useless is going to leave the spec sheet of the cars.
It's about balance to be honest, headlights are better than a candle, but floodlights are way too much. My issue isn't the tech as such, it's evidence of how much we're progressing as a species tech wise, it's that people are relying so much on the tech to get them through life, take calculators. Can you not count in your head, or put it on paper? It's good to use, but there has to be a limit, otherwise you become dependent on said item, and once it's not there, everything grinds to a halt.
@@dodo19923 True... Let's just hope it doesen't get that far. Also we have to note, that we are talking about one of the most prestigious mass producing car companies, so they have to show off as well, in order to always try to stay ahead of the game.

Great review, not trying to knock you at all... but surely it would be better to show the base model rather than this specc'd up version? This is Mercedes' entry level car after all. I'm interested to know what you get in the 25k car and whether it looks anything like this.

Looked at the website. The baser models look desperately under powered. This 250 looks good, baser models are really bad.
This was an invitational press event in Croatia, and this trim level was the only one given to journalists. This model isnt top of the line though, it isn't even the AWD or AMG model

I think those taillights are becoming trendy as a whole, just about every modern hot hatch has about the same taillights. See Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Ford, Mercedes and even BMW to an extent. This Mercedes's taillights are also similar to the Golf and A3.
It's a serious lack of inspiration if you ask me.

The A Class may have S Class technology, but the S Class is has a better ride, is quieter, offers more relaxed performance, handles better, uses higher quality parts inside, and will be more reliable- they are often used by posh hotels who run them for hundreds of thousands of miles.
have you seen the price of this model? the exact model in the presentation? it's almost almost 70.000 euros. you may as well buy a barely used S .
The interior has massively improved. Not quite a fan of the exterior though =/. But I'll give it some time to grow on me.
Honestly so happy that one of my family members has this car it honestly is one of the best cars I have ever been in
I did hear about a car that had such good emergency controls that in the case where this person had literally passed out with 4 others in the car in the middle of a highway, it changed lanes on its own to pull off to the side emergency lane and stopped the car and called emergency services but as it was our National radio service they were not able to say what brand the car was, does anyone know? Its pretty fantastic technology, the person said it literally saved their lives.

I have the new A Class AMG Line with Premium, Advanced Navigation & Advanced Connectivity packs. Quite frankly, the car is a dream. You reviewers who say you prefer the wheel over the new touch pad have not had long enough with it to know: The Touch pad SLAYS and is amazing.
'Hey, Mercedes' ALWAYS works if you speak clearly and wait for it to say "How can I help you". MBUX is extremely clever and simple to use - like Apple’s iOS.
I notice people looking in at night at traffic lights due to the ambient lighting and two 10.25 " screens. It’s quite the head turner.
The driving experience really feels like Mercedes luxury.
I’ve had the car for five weeks and have done 1,500 miles already. A road trip around Cornwall was a breeze in this car and there is practically zero wind noise at high speeds on the motorway. Love it and recommend this car.

I got a 2021 CLA200 and pretty happy with it, the brakes are a bit too sensitive when you are wanting to creep forward is my only complaint.
What an entertaining videos Mat's creating! It's not science but art. The interior of Merc is step above competition, just flat gorgeous. Front is nice but I have an issue with back also. The firm for very strange reason apparently got some problem with rear end design of quite a few their models by the way.
Problematic ride quality of old A class spoiled the offering, so it's reassuring that Mat confirmed serious improvement in this department. Overall it looks like really desirable thing to me. Good job Mercedes!

I also have to say I don't like the screen. Looks like someone took a galaxy note, stretched it to 3x length, and just placed it on the dashboard. Reminds too much of the horrible Model 3 dash design. Please, integrate these damn screens into the dashboard's design, don't just tack them on as if someone stuck an ipad on with double sticky tape.

My only criticism is the cockpit seems at odds with its design. The vents look amazing but the digital display looks too unwieldy as it has no fluidity and doesn’t in my view combine with the design language of the rest of the interior.
There was previously much criticism of Mercedes use of stuck on ‘iPad’ information screens on previous models which they have addressed but instead of incorporating it into a fluid cockpit design they have ended up with an obnoxious and overwhelming digital display that looks as if it was incorporated into the cockpit design as a last minute afterthought!
Spot on, I love the tech but it looks like an after thought just bolted on. I’m sure in future they will integrate it more when it becomes standard rather than an optional upgrade. I feel like it’s compromised due to the dash having to cater for the old standard style dials as well as these screens

Seems like all Mercedes come with the new air nozzles.They started that with the Sprinter. They look so good,it don't matter if Mercedes uses them on the whole fleet
I’m sure it works well but it looks naff, like someone has stuck a big tablet on the dash. The immersive cockpit in the RS3 looks much better to me.

From someone who owns one of these, the infotainment system is annoying. It really struggles to understand you. The AI is bonkers. It's supposed to learn where you want to go and automatically set the sat nav. However, when I've just set off from my house it always seems to think I want to immediately return home. The car hates potholes and speed bumps. Every speed bump more or less scrapes the bottom of the car. The interior looks amazing, but the shiny plastic gathers dust so easily, even after having the car detailed after about an hour the dust is showing, the same goes for the screens.
Great review, Mat. Moved to Denver from California so considering switching out the Abarth for a fully-loaded A Class with 4Matic. Test driving once it lands at dealerships. Love the Tom Fords, btw. Hope you're well.

Yes, but this Renault engine plus a GETRAG-transmission is just very good in an A-Class! The transmission isn't from Renault! It's a proper quality transmission from a German company. They are working very well together, and of course in the cheapest car from Mercedes from their smallest car line, costs are playing a major role. The new A-Class is finally a very fine package! Cooperations between different carmakers in the car industry are quite normal these days and in an A-Class I'm fine with it, when it's working well together. In a C-, E- or even S-Class model it would be definitely a catastrophy.

They were more successful and durable in Formula One than TOYOTA!
Doesn't Mercedes use a Renault engine also in the GLA and CLA class? I know Renault engines are good but if you drive a Mercedes Benz, you want a Mercedes Benz engine..

It's a prblem that the Mercedes doesn't have a solution for and doesn't seem to be worried to find one too.
Some local dealers even called it a characteristic.

There are going to be 3 versions, A35, and A45 in two levels. 300bhp. 380bhp. And the big daddy at approx 410bhp.
Wow, that interior is lovely. And the tech in it for a small car is amazing. Makes my 2016 Golf GTI seem a bit dated... Although the GTI is still more fun to drive 😄 Thanks Matt 👍🏼

Weirdly I prefer the GLA. Didnt get on with the dash screens though. Felt like I was positioning myself for the driver's display and not to drive safely and comfortably.
