      A long time for sure because this here (2012) was a good deal more advanced than how he was doing it at ADCC 2009 when he was using it in every match that weekend. And he's still refining it. If you watch Rafa teach this a couple months ago (summer 2016), there are several improved details than what's here on this 2012 video. So he's just getting sharper and sharper with it.

    Scary isn't Mendes' technique. Scary is that little kid in the background absorbing this shit day in and day out. That's friggin' scary.

    Is that Coach Kian Rafa is demonstrating on? I was his assistant coach in 2015. The guy is a wizard and even if I were a black belt I still would be no where near his level. Didn't know they trained together. This explains alot :D

    I would never "free the leg". If they "catch" the leg (trap themselves) just do the Japanese necktie and thats night night. This is a anaconda video yes but it's basicaly like saying "after you get the Japanese necktie , abandon it for anaconda".

    • @tobybrown2674
      @tobybrown2674 Před 3 lety

      Rafa Mendes does not like the Japanese necktie. He likes the anaconda, darce, and to a lesser extent the guillotine. His preferences are adcc proven. I’d rather learn his Jiu-Jitsu from him than a Japanese necktie I can learn from someone else.

      You'd think so, right? But Rafa posted a roll from this exact class and those kids torch each other with this technique in the background. The Ruotolo twins were off camera but in class here too. This was in the first month of AOJ. And a funny thing is Rafa taught more than this that Saturday...he covered a fairy detailed darce entry from the same position (czcams.com/video/ktg5a4F3V78/video.html). The kids may look bored here but they loved it. And what he showed stuck because the Ruotolo twins are both beasts at head and arm chokes.
