  • The Berimbolo was developed by the Mendesbros and became famous because they used it to attack their opponents in the past few years. This back attack is one of the Mendesbros crafty tricks from the Berimbolo technique. Now you see the new generation using it and trying to understand the technique that help make the Mendesbros become multiple time world champions. visit: www.aojacademy.com and www.mendesbros.com 411 East 17th Street, Costa Mesa, CA 92627 - (949) 645-1679

    @Oleksandr Karpenko, De La Riva is an open guard technique, similar to X guard, spider guard, butterfly guard, etc. Berimbolo is essentially an inverted roll that can be used to sweep. The berimbolo sweep is most commonly used from the 50-50 position or from De La Riva.

    Defending strikes is not a concern in IBJJF tournaments. Love it or hate it they are using it to win in their sport. If you want to go do MMA because you think that rule set is more "realistic" then thats your choice but know anyone could make the same argument about rules in MMA... as in 5 Minute Rounds... Yea thats realistic. Stand ups. weight classes, No kicks to a downed opponent. How about wearing board shorts and vaseline for a uniform? Don't forget MMA is a sport itself with rules and a scoring system that are manipulated by its athletes and your "Reality" is completely objective.... Shit my grandmother could kill Jon Jones squeezing her index finger.... hows that for reality. Fortunately I dont think she has it out for him but if he keeps poking people in the eyes...

    • @andrew12yao
      @andrew12yao Před 8 lety +7

      A sport is a sport. Why people dont go to American football players to tell em "Yeah but you dont jump high enough and slam that ball through the post" Because its not basketball dummy its NFL You dont slam you run and touch. Apart from this .... just go do MMA.... go. Without some form of grappling go try your "luck" in MMA..... The moment the opponent realise you dont know ground game or grappling you gonna have a very bad time.

    Wow. This move is not as new as many make it out to be. I remember training off and on at a Barra affiliated gym back in the late 90's-early 2000. There were a few tall dudes who messed around with a position that had no name. Sometimes these two tall dudes tried pulling the berimbolo at the same time and we just called them the upside down clowns. It was a very discouraging position and no one knew what to do when they got stuck in it. the only thing the personon top could think about doing is hammerfisting the guys balls into his stomach but alas that cant be done while rolling.
    Its just funny to me this weird experimental position could have been used back then to win tournies but it kind of just stayed inthe practice room out of thought that it was super frustrating and clever but not real jiujitsu. Now from the late 2000's to now its real. its hella real and its bizare for an old timey bjj fan like me to watch..haha

      @robertoatallabjj Před 5 lety

      actually a guy called Marcel Ferreira was doing in comps, he won as a purple middle heavy in 1996 the Worlds, but he mostly went to top position and passed because the pressure against the leg is big and it works well as a sweep but inside the gym he was doing the back variations too. But Mendes added new details and a focus on taking the back, and changed grips. Funny story made me smile now!
