    Actually, the reason for Psychic being weak to Dark, when you consider dark is evil type in Japan, is because the mind is prone to corruption of evil thoughts and wrongdoings. At least that's my interpretation of it.

    • @TheHammerGuy94
      @TheHammerGuy94 Před 3 lety +43

      and if you consider all the psychic weaknesses: Dark, Ghost and Bug, they're all common human fears.
      evil, supernatural (or fear of things you cannot explain), and just bugs (hence why terror or fear is commonly represented as a spider)
      with this said, Psychic should alternatively be called "mind" type instead.
      some moves like Instruct, Agility, Trick, and Rest all involve manipulating the mind in some way.

    I pretty much have only one explanation for Luster Purge and Mist Ball being Psychic type besides game mechanics. Both Latias and Latios are coated in mystical feathers, which let them perform all their abilities. In the movie, they can go invisible, are magically aerodynamic, and can reflect light in certain ways to disguise themselves. Luster Purge is just Latios refracting the light from its feathers in a certain way, and Mist Ball is just Latias throwing the magic feathers at someone. It's a stretch, but it's the best explanation I can think of.

    • @FaultyWin

      Late to the party, but if we're talking the first movie, that was actually Shadow Ball IIRC, which is actually a really good move to have on Mewtwo in Gen 2 =P

    • @ToaArcan
      @ToaArcan Před 3 lety

      @@HellbladesFFXI It's a fairly average move in Gen II. Shadow Ball was Physical before Gen IV for... some reason, and therefore ran off Mewtwo's Attack of 110, which is good, but nothing on its Sp.Atk of 154. Mewtwo would do much better with the Elemental Punches.
      Also, I was referring to the attack that Mewtwo and Mew use that turns Ash to stone. They're surrounded by a fiery aura of their respective energy colours, and then it fires in a massive energy blast that explodes when they hit each other.
      According to the wiki this is meant to be Psychic, but Psychic doesn't look like that when any other Pokemon uses it, so I call foul.
      It's almost certainly the inspiration for the "Psyburn" move that appeared on a lot of Mewtwo cards in the TCG.

    • @HellbladesFFXI
      @HellbladesFFXI Před 3 lety +1

      @@ToaArcan Hmm. I always figured that was Psybeam they were using, with the aura being an outward show of just how much power their beams had lol but different opinions is really what makes Pokemon interesting to me.
      I do agree it's not Psychic though, cause that has in any other bit of the anime or such, literally throwing the opponent with psychic power. And yeah, I loved that Psyburn Mewtwo lol XD Not the best Mewtwo even in it's era but still special cause I had it as a kid.
      Edit: I think I preferred having Shadow Ball just for having a Ghost move that actually did damage against how originally Lick was it and yeah... Ghost is my favorite type >.>;

      @@saifulmazlan4146 in some way, considering the mental manipulation powers seen with some moves, Psychic can be called "mind" type
      I mean it's the reason why Psychic is super effective against Fighting. Brain vs brawn, mind over matter.
      and also why Psychic is weak to Dark, Ghost, and Bug. (common human fears)

    Future Sight actually did happen in an anime once. It’s defined as an unavoidable attack. The text in the game “but it failed” suggested Future Sight took effect but something went wrong negating it. Though despite going over it in details, it’s surprising he didn’t catch that Celebi is also a psychic type which would be a fitting move for it.

    You know the trope of someone traveling to the past to kill someone that can change the course of the future, I kind of see that but instead of traveling to the pass you are traveling to the future to attack someone. However instead of traveling to the future it’s more like being able to see into the future and since you can’t enter that since it does not exist you send a wave of energy to attack the opponent for when the time overlaps.

    Psychic moves, and the Pokemon that use them, have always been my favourite. When Fairies came out I'd wished there was a type advantage over them; trickster magic should be outright useless against Pokemon with such powerful minds, and could easily be turned against the user in the same way that is thought to be done against Poison-types.
