Cyrus and the Achaemenid empire deserve far more recognition. After reading Xenophon's Education of Cyrus, I wondered why this man isn't celebrated like Alexander or Julius Caesar. Without Western bias, he would be the greatest king that has ever lived.

Cyrus was great not due to his military genius or rulling skills, but for his respect for human rights and refusal of slavery. However, we often hear the term great is given to warlords such as Alexander, Chenghiz khan, Napoleon ...
I personally take pride in refusal of slavery in Persian culture. Perhaps the only major civilization that did not build on the shoulders of the slaves and yet made it.

Nice concise explanation. From a Biblical perspective that believes in the inspiration of Scripture, Isaiah wasn’t propaganda. YHWH often used Gentiles to fulfill His will, which usually meant punishing Israel for disobedience. God raised up Cyrus, however, to end the Babylonian Captivity. Isaiah’s prophecy of the coming of Cyrus was made about 150 years before it happened.

its not just Torah or Cyrus cylinder, there is also two Greek historians Xenophon and Herodotus who were unbiased as it gets considering Greeks and Persians were enemies told the same story.
this guy clearly has some jealousy and hatred towards Iranians otherwise he wouldn't changing the fact that according to all historians and evidence it was Lydia that attacked Cyrus not vice versa. and no one expects this dude claiming that Cyrus destroyed any city anywhere, heck he didn't even killed his direct enemies after he defeated them. and pointed them as advisor.
I don't know what is going on with him but i know he needs therapy

I think it came down from the Great Schism. Greek vs Persia vs Rome. East (Greeks) walked away from the Roman Empire Ambitions, while the West kept a papacy. Iranians or the original Aryans, kept their flag flying though. In every Country they say foot in and controlled. Like India, Italy, Hungary, Mexico, (Spain), and on and on. Rome, meh, it's finally falling, and for good this time. It's amazing. God broke the languages of all the people in Babylon as to prevent them from self destruction as Nimrod had them build that tower. Now the world has been losing their culture, lineage, tradition, celebrations, and most of all, identity. I never traveled to Europe, but went to Hawaii. In Hawaii I saw Starbucks, Borders Books, and alot of native Islanders who were trying to hold onto their heritage. It made me think of that music video by Ramenstein Amerika. Now I get it. I look at Sicily and see all these vacant villages that are for sale and watch as investors buy it up for resorts. Depressing. Iranians are very noble people. I had a friend named Zod who had escaped Tehran after the CIA installed their beesh. He was only 9. Even though he went through one of the darkest times in Iranian history, he was still the most intellectual and classy person. I got to learn a little more about Persia. We all are so different, and that's what made this world so beautiful. American is just a land of mixed people. We can't trace our family roots as far back as the rest of the world. So, wherever you are, keep those traditions in tact, along with family. Without it, the world no longer will exist. ❤

If the cylinder was the equivalent of a pre historic leaflet that copies were made of and distributed throughout Babylon and the rest of the near east, then to claim the gates were opened to him would be a pretty bold lie (were it to be untrue) considering that it would be readily apparent to people what had happened. That Behistun inscription though...that one smells like a big fat lie sandwich to me.

How can you call Cyrus "Great" if nomadic forces of barbarian tribes attack and obliterate the inhabitants of the civilized land of Babylonia? In fact, the priests of the temple Marduke opened the gate of Babylon in Cyrus. Do not forget how Queen Tomyris took care of him on his last invasion. Prof. Cook in the second volume of the Cambridge history of Iran, writes that only seven cavalrymen were able to escape from the battle field of the Massagetae. This was despite the treacherous plot of Cyrus that cost the son and one thirds of the Queen's army. You must approach history critically and condemn the nomadic tribes and him that cost the lives of tens of thousands of the rural and other innocent masses. Thanks!

From your point of view, no one deserves the title of "great" And don't forget the story of Tomyris written by Herodotus, who was an enemy of Iran in general and used lies and legends for the benefit of Greece in historiography. and Of course, the Persians were not barbarians and there was a city and civilization there (in south of iran )thousands of years before cyrus
