    What an out-of-this-world way to start the weekend, Pat, with your great thumbnail and your fantastic Star Trek book reviews!
    I highly recommend the next TV series (with it's own plethora of novels) Star Trek: The Next Generation to you - I watched it as a teen in the 90's. Star Trek: The Next Generation is arguably as beloved as the original 1960's series and is a more than worthy Star Trek incarnation for Gen Xer's such as myself. Patrick Stewart (a Shakespearean actor) is Jean-Luc Picard , the Enterprise's captain, and he is arguably a more beloved leader of the Enterprise than Captain Kirk, especially since Picard is not a womanizer and much more level-headed than Kirk. (Of course, no one in the later Star Trek canon is as a great a character as Spock, in my opinion.) Star Trek: The Next Generation also introduces us to the Borg, an alien race that becomes very important in Star Trek mythology and lore.
    I love how, at the end of the day, Star Trek, in whatever incarnation you enjoy, as is the case with most, if not all science fiction, is really about the complexities of being human (or sentient) rather than about space travel.

      @BookChatWithPat8668  Před 11 dny +1

      Thank you for this lovely, thoughtful comment! I have often suspected that I probably would really fall in love with The Next Generation too. I love Patrick Stewart in everything. I am quite sure I would be hooked quickly. I just never moved beyond the original series probably because of my age and my life concerns when The Next Generation came out. But perhaps this is as good a time as any to expand my horizons, so to speak. Thank you for this very thoughtful recommendation! I hope you're doing well. Have a great weekend!

    Two nights ago watched back to back Star Trek the Motion Picture and the Wrath of Khan. I think there is a nice balance to the two films, the first being more intellectual the second more emotional. With each one having an undercurrent of the other. Did you ever read the comics from the 80's? While I was packing (still not finished moving) my books and comics I came across my Start Trek comic collection and a three part story about Kirk and Carol's early relationship leading to the birth of David and their eventual separation. Maybe that's what got me thinking of the films. Tried to appreciate The Next Generation but I found the episodes and some of the lead characters uninteresting, with the exception of Patrick Stewart as Picard. He was compelling, but not enough to make me watch the series.
