I've upset my mum.... she really wanted to keep this piece but I said I wanted to raffle it off to one of my subscribers. Not to worry though, I've already told her that I will make her one of her own 😊

This Spalted Beech platter is approximately 300mm across, 55mm tall and 35mm deep. It has been finished with Oil and Wood wax to a perfect shine. I just love those markings. This piece is totally unique and took hours to create.

You really brought out the natural beauty in that piece of wood.
You do excellent work, just from my limited knowledge of watching people do this; I've never done it myself. I was just going to say you may want to rethink the gloves while you do this. I'm a fitter and turner, work on steel turning lathes and mills a lot, and I have heard of (and seen myself) some horrific accidents of gloves being caught by the chuck/workpiece and the wearer becoming part of the machine. Which doesn't end well, ever. Just being an online Safety Sid here, a pain in the ass I know but I never wear gloves when operating heavy machinery..

Nice platter, bottom looks like it has some tool marks still on it. And base of bowl looks a little thick still, however these may just be optical illusions harry.

It's lovely but give it to your mom. She doesn't ask much of you. She's fed you, dressed you, wiped your ass and supported you. Then you make a bowl she loves and asks if she can have it... and you say "NOOOO! I'm gonna give it to some random stranger who clicks on my raffle page. Here! Have another weed pot and stop winging!".
