    Before I knew I was pregnant I was a big coffee drinker, I knew something was up when I started feeling sick from the smell of brewing coffee, a smell I used to love.

    I had 1-2 cups of coffee plus 1-2 x per week i would have diet coke. My baby is completely healthy, thriving, & far above all milestones. She was 8lbs & over 22" long. I delivered at 40 weeks & 3 days. No preterm at alll

    A cup would probably be 6oz by their standards but American is more like 12 oz. we are used to bigger portions.

    I've been looking everywhere when I found this video. Are coffee enemas safe for pregnant women?

      Generally, these are not routinely recommended as there could be potential side effects and there are usually safer options.

    Excuse me, can I ask because my sister is pregnant in her 3 week. She is a coffee lover, everyday she consume a 5 cup of coffee, what can you say about this scenario?

    • @NourishwithMelanie
      @NourishwithMelanie  Před 3 lety

      Hi James! It is recommended to reduce all caffeine consumption during pregnancy is possible. However, research suggests up to 200mg may be safe. This equates to approximately 2 shots of coffee / day. If your sister likes the taste of coffee and would prefer to have it more frequently, she may like to try decaffeinated coffee (although there are still trace amounts of caffeine). I hope that helps!

    Does coffins pass through the placenta or into the amniotic fluid? Will it have the same affect on baby that it has on you?

    • @NourishwithMelanie
      @NourishwithMelanie  Před 3 lety

      Yes, it can. A foetus cannot metabolise caffeine like an adult, which contributes to the negative effects of excess caffeine consumption during pregnancy.

    Thank you for this video. Is it okay to have one cafe takeaway regular sized cup of coffee once or twice a week?

    • @NourishwithMelanie
      @NourishwithMelanie  Před 3 lety

      Yes, a small coffee once or twice a week falls below the recommendation of 200mg per day or less. Although some research suggests to eliminate caffeine all together, one to two cups a week poses a low risk.

      @@NourishwithMelanie Dont need research to prove coffee is bad for your baby! Its all about Biochemistry
      If you have not studied biochemistry then its dangerous for you to be giving advice on this topic !

      @NourishwithMelanie  Před 2 lety

      It is unclear at the moment, however there seems to be a small risk associated.

    Your guest is not clear and very confusing. I propose you speak to a dietician or nutritionist who studied biochemistry to get a clear answer. Understanding Biochemistry is fundamentally important to nutrition
    As a soon to be midwife with a degree in Cell and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry the answer should be a clear no! No coffee for pregnant women!! Developing babies cannot process caffeine regardless of the amounts!
    200 mg is waayyy too much for very very small baby who don't have the enzymes to break it down!!
    200 mg translates to 2000cg or 20 000dg or 200 000 ng of caffeine that the baby is taking in!

    With my first I had an aversion towards coffee could smell it from very far and I could not stand it. Prior to this I loooved coffee! So my body knew that I had to stay away from it.
    Now with my second I found out I was pregnant less than a week ago so it's still early, but I have no aversion towards coffee, which I find weird. Maybe it's still too early (with my first i had the aversion at about 7-8 weeks of pregnancy, so I still have a few weeks to go).
