Hey Mah-Dry, Great run. Im so exited for the New Vegas run. I've done Explosives only aswell before and I wanted to give sime tips.
1. Explosives can not Crit. So don't worry about that.
2. Powder Gangers are an excellent source of early game explosives. Knock-em dead.
3. If you start with the Courier's Stash DLC, you start with a powerful Grenade Rifle with ammo.
4. The lv6 perk, Mad Bomber will be your best friend. It takes explosives and repair skill to get it, and it gives you several recipes. The most useful item is Microfusion Cell Grenades, which only need Microfusion cells. So stock up.
Im sure you know most of these, but I'm listing them in case. Have fun.
Looking forward to thay one aswell. I mostly use semi auto weapons due to rarity and ammo depletion.
But in fallout 4 i made a full auto rocket and nuclear launcher and also pipe rocket and nuclear launchers which was a fun experiment.
Fun fact: in gen 5 I had an arbok named Quake Snake, it's moveset was earthquake, ice fang, coil and gunk shot.
12:37 I'm gonna play the devil's advocate and say that was more to do with Gen 1 mechanics rather than Blaine's incompetency to do anything right. The AI saw Agility being super effective 🤣
I've seen about 500 of your challenges and still every time when you read out the rules I nod approvingly like "other Pokémon for TMs? Sounds fair, I'll allow it" 😂
It’s probably referring to moves like teleport and (in later gens) flash, which still have useful overworld effects but aren’t HMs.
I love these team runs! So much fun.
When you said next week's run I heard "Saturday as usual.... Explosives" and was very confused and interested 😂😂koffing, golem, electrode... Might be fun.

What do people think of an only electric type Pokémon in gen 5 (black/white)? Theres blitzel/Zebstriker, joltik, emolga and tynamo. I think it’ll be interesting. Tough ground gym obviously though.🤔🧐
You'd have to start with Joltik or Tynamo

The reason I specified Tynamo & Joltik is cause they're both in Chargestone Cave, so one of them would be permanently locked if you didn't start with the opposite one
If you like weird thematic teams, I have an idea for you. Do a red run with pokemon whose pokedex number looks like binary. The first 7 are all gen 1, so you have enough choice to drop one.
Bulbasaur (001), Caterpie (010), Metapod (011), Voltorb (100), Electrode (101), Weezing (110), and Rhydon (111).

Love this concept! I'd love to see this in Ruby too. Seedot, Mawile, Zangoose and Solrock. Weird, weird team. Feels way weirder than Sapphire's Lotad, Sableye, Seviper and Lunatone for some reason
You should do more exclusive only runs if you really enjoyed it. To be honest, I found it interesting to see such a unique combination of Pokémon. Please do this for the other versions such as Blue / Gold / Silver / etc.

Yo MDB, I would recommend to use Rare candy to lvl up your team to at least the lvl cap of the gym leaders pokemon. Makes team runs more fun to watch, since you can use every member of your team without overworking yourself 😁

I wonder how a version exclusive run would fare in other generations? Some of them don't have such disparity in their teams, so you could end up with a bigger challenge.
Then again, the level of challenge would also depend on whether you're allowing for the generation-exclusive Legendaries, which started in Gen 3 (Lugia and Ho-oh technically aren't exclusive, you just get access to the other one much later on). It would probably make for a boring run if, for example, the Pearl story was "I had a tough run for the first 7 Gyms and the Galactic showdown, then I just swept the rest with Palkia."
Anyway, looking forward to the Fallout challenge!

Love the idea of runs using version exclusives! I enjoy the runs that are fun without forcing crazy grinding like a solo first form run.
Also someone else here mentioned ORAS and I would also love to see a ORAS run of some kind.

For what it's worth, Jrose himself said in an old Eevee challenge for people to knock it off, and every time I've ever talked to Jrose it's been great. I don't get why people think we're "Rivals" or something. It's just weird parasocial shit. I think Jrose is cool.

Awesome I love diverse teams of not so often used Pokemon. Every time I start a Pokemon game I try to catch as many Pokemon as early as I can and take the time to grind them up. It takes its times but its always worth it

That was hilarious to watch with the low level victory. Helps you had shockingly good type coverage for the important fights. Too bad we never got to see arcanine. :p I wonder if things would have gone different had you evolved him early because fire blast was good enough?
I'm not really into super difficult challenges, that's kind of why I watch you, because... Well, you suffer for your art, don't you? But this is exactly the kind of a run that I would do. It does seem like fun.
Why didn't you just do the Safari Zone for the Scyther? It's not that bad, and that 100% critical Slash would've been a lifesaver.
Because the safari zone sucks. Yeah, not as much as grinding for coins, but I don't blame MDB for not doing so

A Vulpix only run in gen 4, best would be Heart Gold or Soul Silver. It gets some decent coverage and sure has some Advantage against many gym leaders.
An easy time for a great guy: an Eeveelution run in gen 4 - platinum to be exact. It should be decently easy getting to choose a full team of the Eeveelutions.
Third one - you steam roll Elite 4 Bruno or get brick walled, most of the time rather easy. However, can you beat Crystal as Elite 4 Bruno?

Pokemon silver with this same concept sounds pretty fun. there wouldn't be overlaps in available pokemon with this challenge (unlike gold) plus you'd actually get flamethrower on vulpix before the elite four :D

A fun run and the next one's a fallout run as well so all the goodies with this run. Though when you shift back to pokemon I'm still hoping for pokemon gold/silver with a single Murkrow

Tangela, Exeggcute, Paras, Caterpie, Scyther, Pinsir.
Run suggestion: Pokémon _Blue_ with only version exclusives.
Man I got so lost in the sauce watching your CK2 Mecca run that I'm late to the party on this one. My guess is that you'll succeed, this one gives you a full team and you've won with a lot worse!
Maybe this could be a series, where future challenges could be different generations with the specific pokemon! Itd make gen 5 challenge with that easier than the single pokemon challenges in gen 5!
I think you hindered yourself waiting for flamethrower. Fire Blast is good enough for Exeggutor, and there really isn't anyone else who you *need* fire moves for late game. By evolving early, Arcanines' massive stats would make Pokemon Tower significantly easier, as well as trivialize Erika. He also makes Koga easier.
This was a great run but now I'm so excited for Fallout with only explosives. Going to be a blast
Arbok can learn dig, would be a huge help fighting both ghosts and Koga.
My favorite thing about this run is that its team feels like one an npc would have late game, especially with the unevolved on level growlithe

I've been playing this game since it came out (im 35) and i just realized in all that time, until now, I'd never seen the back sprite for Arbok.
What about doing a run without any super effective moves. Or no stab attacks. I think the strategy would be really cool.
Hey MDB, I know you usually have a schedule set up. But I recently started trying a different type of Pokémon Challenge called a pacifist run, essentially the rules are you cannot deal direct damage attacks to other Pokémon. So you have to rely on status moves like thunder wave, toxic, Wil o wisp, leech seed, spikes, etc.
I think Gold with only Dark Type Moves could be a fun run. Or Emerald with only a Swablu?
I have always found Gen 1 Arbok amazing. Glare and Wrap is such a strong shutdown.
Challenge run idea (that will require a save editor). Using the team of the last trainer you fought until you beat a new trainer.
Back to the good old days of can we beat pokemon platimum with only 1 spheel

If you do this run for hoenn, do it in emerald. You can catch ruby and sapphires exclusives in emerald except for Zangoos and Lunatone. If you do ruby exclusives start the game with Zangoose. If you do saphire exclusives start with Lunatone.
Would enjoy seeing a run with a team of Pokémon that can use at least 4 HMs but with the caveat of not being able to use any HMs in their move set
