    Hey George, like I mentioned earlier, Tom Richie has always designed and built beautiful frames & components.
    You presentation is right on ! You hit all the important points of the frame/fork construction, rim/tire combination as well as the included hardware....
    Looking forward to your build-up of this very cool, steel frame .... Keep it simple !

    Beautiful Frame! I just bought a new steel frame bike for road/gravel use. I was happy to hear you mentioned about the rear derailleur hanger, I bought a spare one for my bike. I had the option of internal or external cable routing. I went internal so it wouldn't get in the way of my bags. Now after watching this, I wish I hadn't.

  • @sccxvelo
    @sccxvelo Před rokem +1

    Such a classy frame, color, and build. Agree with metal frames off tarmac for durability. External under downtube routing excellent for tarmac for less fuss, not the best with off CX/gravel/mtb bikes due gunk build up zone on the cables. Old CX canti/v-brake race frame as the routing on top of the top tube. Ride the dirt bike when the weather turns bad or rougher roads on tarmac. Then keep the road bike clean for most of the days. One reason I go with CX/gravel bikes for that reason for general use. Thoes mega long dirt rides sounds like fun. Tough call looking over the ritchey 50th ani. frame due to a limited run which makes it a special frame from a well known quality frame maker to get another which is more common with less quality.

I've been eyeing that Ritchey Outback since it came out and once they dropped the anniversary edition, I was wow'd by the paint job! I will pull the trigger this wee! On another note, I've worked in the bike industry for 15+ years and want to tell you I agree with you, I now want a steel frame bike. Carbon bikes are great but sometimes it just seems like it "the industry" is designed to SELL you a newer version of something thatis perfectly made. After 15+ years i;ve come to the conclusion, there's nothing like a well designed steel frame.

Zipp ergo handle bars and zipp stem both aluminum. Zipp aluminum seat post with a wtb saddle. Wheels are HED emporia wrapped in vittoria 35mm tires. SRAM rival two bi etap electric groupset. I haven't ridden the Outback, I just built a Ritchey Swiss Cross disc and I can confirm the secret sauce is finger licking good, it's incredibly comfortable with carbon rims with 700x38c Panaracer SK. So good to be back on steel. The build was so easy with external cables and I can't even notice them when I'm riding. Total build weight for 1x was 9.44kg riding weight and you can't feel the weight at all, it's a blast to ride and I've been PR so many dirt segments and even a road KOM segment.

    I have a 2015 QR Disc Swiss Cross. It's a great bike.
    Regarding included components with framesets. I recent bought a Trek Domane RSL frameset and thought it was weird that it didn't include a compression/expander plug or headset top cap. It also didn't come with steerer spacers for the optional integrated cable routing stem, though it did come with the headset cover... It did not come with the proprietary seatpost, but presumably that's because there are two setback options and two length options to choose from.

    I like the fact you mentioned riding offroad you prefer steel funny because I just watched a video today for the new ENVE gravel bike the MOG. It's a carbon bike obviously being an ENVE product, but still made in China. You should watch that video presentation if you want a good laugh because that guy talking at the presentation had to be top of the class in collage when it came to BS. I couldn't resist and had to troll the video. But I am with you because I learned my lesson from my mountainbike days when I bought a Scott Spark carbon and just a couple of months of using it I fell and the chainstay hit up against a rock and cracked the chainstay. It was so easily broken I couldn't believe it. I would never buy a carbon bike for offroad use. I like your new bike. Interested in that wrap you mentioned.

  • @rodjonsson813
    @rodjonsson813 Před rokem +2

    Sweet color - perhaps just a splash of bright red somewhere to set it off. Love how they thought of everything to make it last and keep it simple, like you don't even need to spray the inside of the frame. Great support - just email and someone knowledgeable writes back. Just got a brand new 1" Ritchey fork and WCS headset to update a late 90s Lemond 853 to threadless. They still make them - so someone in the know understands what that's all about. I've broken 2 11s Ultegra chains in the past year. The sideplate just pulled off the pin both times climbing a steep. The chains were mid-life but not worn. It makes me think 11s is where durability issues start going convex. I have 1X11s on a MTB and have never been happy with it - sounds like hell. Going back to 9/10 and 3X if needing range. 2X the durability for 1/2 the price - or something like that.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Před rokem

      That’s interesting what you mentioned about your 11 speed chains. I do a lot of steep climbing here. We have a lot of 15 to 20% grade and then some in this area and I’ve never had a chain fail on me. If you follow me on Strava you’ll see I do, lots of rides with 50-60 miles with 10,000 ft all on stupid steep hills.

    • @rodjonsson813
      @rodjonsson813 Před rokem

      @@SeeYouUpTheRoad As these parts keep getting narrower, something has to give eventually. So far, I've had 2 chain fails and at least one cog fail (bent teeth on missed shift under load) - all on 11s. I think I'm roughly half your mileage, elevation and time per year. IDK if it makes a difference but I'm 40-60 rpm a lot on the steeps (high chain tension) and still on lube (will try wax when supply runs out). PS - idea for your Outback - dropper post!

      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Před rokem

      @@rodjonsson813 hmm that’s interesting about you wanting to be lower while climbing steep stuff. I don’t know that I would want to shorten my leg travel on a steep grade. I have a set a HED disc wheels. I’m probably going to put a road group on it. I have a bunch of carbon stuff laying around that I will probably use. I’m not trying to save weight on it. It’s irrelevant on a gravel and especially a steel gravel bike.

    I don't get the 1x thing either, if the bike is a hardtail. I am running Ultegra RX clutch RD with 52-34 front and 11-40XT (Shimano Specs 34T, but clears 40T in real world) cassette on my gravel bike with no issues, that gets me up all the technical climbs I need while retaining good top speed on road. The clutch is nice so that when you suddenly stop pedaling, you don't get a chain jerk due to angular momentum of the big cassette.

      DISCLAIMER: This is not a bike size recommendation. This is just my fitting data.
      I ride a 55cm Road Logic. I’m 5’9” with a long inseam and a short torso. My saddle height with the crank arm down along the seat tube axis is 95 cm. My bars are all the way down with no spacers under the stem. I ride a 120mm flat stem.
      It’s been my experience over 20 years of bike fitting that most people ride bikes that are too small for them. They ride stems that are far too short as well. Then the suck at descending or have compromised bike handling.
      I will ride a Large Outback. The reach is almost identical to my Road Logic
      Stack and reach
      Ritchey Road Logic 568 and 395
      Ritchey Outback 587 and 390

    Everything you touched from steel to disc to one by is all agreed upon from were am sitting. Gravel demands comfort, and what better way than the best metal on earth. Steel. I can’t find any info on that special parts these model comes with? I recently seen one talk about it at Sea Otter but didn’t catch the brand name? I want to get
    My hands on those parts,,crank and cable hydro brake setup. I’m also building up a steel steed, has semi internal cable housing and newer head tube it’s under 2Kgs which is surprisingly good. Just need to find a decent carbon fork as the steel one is complex with 15 thru axle
    And ugly adapter brace welded on. Otherwise made by a master frame builder with insane workmanship, dare I say even better than your frame! 😜

      Not yet! I have PBP coming up August 20th. Everything has been about that and only that as well as running my business. I’m also not a gravel guy so there isn’t any rush to get it done. Eventually …

    Awesome video, cannot agree more, I owned the previous green color one, loved it in every way but climbing, the rear end its so long for it, but in flatter surfaces and downhill it's an awesome machine, I ended up changing it to a Swiss Cross. I also got a Logic and a MTB Ultra, love them all, that secret sauce it's kind of addictive, Cheers from Barcelona/Spain.

      I never heard back from Bianchi and then I never heard from you until today. It was also during the holidays. I’m extremely busy Sean. Help me help you! There appears to have been a big shuffle at Bianchi. My rep has always sucked. It has always taken an enormous amount of effort to contact him and get ETA’s from him.
      Now let’s move forward are you complaining to complain or are you still interested in a Bianchi XR4?

      I found your email from 18:46 pm on December 31 - New Year’s Eve
      “Hi,
      Just following up on a comment on your youtube.
      I was looking for an XR4 rim brake (direct mount) Ideally in the full celeste with the black headtube and fork accent as per the old Jumbo colorway. Size 55, 56, 57 or 59 would be fine and additionally I was hoping you could quote me for that and a celeste fork for XR4 direct mount in full celeste, no black. Thanks!”
      Honestly when I read your email I didn’t think it was a serious inquiry. I get whacky emails all the time and this was no exception. How could someone want a bike in any size? But I did pass it along to Bianchi anyway.
      So which size do you really want please?
