    Hi George, I agree completely with you regarding the Ritchey Logic being a go everywhere bike. Mine was riding gravel before all my local friends bought the latest gravel bikes. It is a true road bike that you can comfortably ride 30km on seal and then time on gravel before pushing the big gears 30km home again. Unfortunately my health has stopped me riding for a few months, bloody brain tumor but that is fixed and here I NZ the summer is about to start so I'll get the 61 year old body fit again and enjoy riding the logic. Thanks for the video.
    Regards Bill from NZ.

      Thank you for watching from New Zealand! Sorry to hear about your brain tumor. Oh geez! I hope everything turns out all right and you can hit the streets by summer.
      Funny story a couple of years ago I show up to a gravel ride in the mountains of East San Diego on my Ritchey with 28 Continental 5000 tubeless tires. Everyone else is on gravel bikes, disc brakes, 1X, fat tires etc ... I rock up with my "old skool" bike. Later the one guy says "when you pulled up on that bike I was like yeah that guy knows how to ride" Underbiking is fun 😁
      Being able to add a little bit larger tire on this version of Road Logic should open the possibility for a wider (get it lol) variety of tires.

    Have both the regular and breakaway versions. These are a serious steal (lol) for the price - 40 yrs of refinement, asymmetric triple butting, lugless, tubes inside are coated for rust, integrated headset cups forged into head tube, tire clearance to 32c. They work best for me around 25c-28c. 30c is a bit sluggish on pavement but perfect on dirt. This having been said, I'd prefer all of the above with 1" steerer, horizontal top tube and braze-on for downtube shifters - on such bikes, I'm still using 23c and they're great. More to it than ride quality, I'm climbing better when I can bend the bike. ps. there's no front hanger because the tube is super thin there.

      Nice Rod! I spoke about the fact that even if the BB flexes it gives back that energy in the other direction. Energy put into the bike is not lost...

    • @rodjonsson813
      @rodjonsson813 Před 8 měsíci +2

      u bet george. ime, don't need the big tires, ultra thin stays and long exposed posts if the bike bends enough where it supposed to. why ritcheys won't ever go away from small head and steerer tubes. everyone else will have figure this out again, eventually.@@SeeYouUpTheRoad

    I just ordered a 55cm frameset. I had a 1999 Bianchi Pinella Boron steel frame and loved it...but crashed hard in a race and the frame was a mess. I ordered the ti version as a replacement and raced that for 11 years...then raced a Spooky Skeletor aluminum frame for 13 years. At 52 years old comfort is now king. Also, some kid just got a bronze medal at Criterium nationals on this frame so you can't say she doesn't get up and go. I raced MTB's in the early 90's and Ritchey stuff was always good. It is hard to put into words the feel of a very good steel frame.

      Hello Ray. Please expound on why you would like a front derailleur hanger on the Road Logic. I like having the flexibility of moving the clamp/derailleur wherever I choose to put it depending on chainrings. But I would like to hear your opinion

    • @raycox3088
      @raycox3088 Před 8 měsíci

      @@SeeYouUpTheRoad I see your point, but for me the hanger is a cleaner look and it gives me plenty of adjustment for a 52 or 53 combo with either a 42 or 39. I can play with that changing the cassette.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@raycox3088 from my perspective I see another point of failure. I have seen damaged FD hangers in the shop. I have also seen where customers want to install certain chainring combinations and the hanger doesn't accommodate them. No hanger allows future-proofing for your frame who knows what chainring or drivetrain modification might come out in 5 years or 10
      Clamp on front derailleurs are mechanical stronger hence will over better front derailleur shifting. In fact, when installing Shimano front derailleurs they have a tiny set screw that you have to set against the frame to give the derailleur more stiffness. You have to put this tiny piece of metal on your frame and screw the set screw into it. If you have a band clamp Shimano tells you that step is not necessary since it is a stiffer platform.

    I love the color. If I didn't just get the blue 50th Anniversary frame, I'd snap one of these up in a flash.
    On the 50th Anniversary frame, the claimed tire clearance was 30 mm, but there's no way one would fit on mine. The brake bridge is placed so low on the seatstays that the brake shoes are in the top of the caliper slots. I'm wondering why Ritchey didn't design it so the brake bridge was placed higher, so the brake shoes could be at the bottom of the slots.
    In any case, I'm riding 28 mm and just happy as a clam with the frame and ride quality, so no real complaints.

    Agree with stiffness and comfort on frames factors. My single speed/retro bike is a cannondale 2008 CX 9 canti brakes (may go V brakes) and stiff as hell that just puts the power down for an alloy CX race frame. Excellent for the hour plus warmup/cooldown but that it is it for riding. Was an older 2x10 build for some years way back to replace a redline cx frame that given to me that was to small. After some years of hurting on longer rides had to get to another frame anyways for pit bike. But new frame became my A bike till pandemic due to the comfort for general use, not just race.

Although I did a Frankenbike experiment on my channel with a mixed Dura-Ace 11 and 105 12 speed mechanical disc on one of my carbon bikes. It was a proof of concept video to see if I could use it on a Ritchey Disc. My guess is 32’s will fit but they are conservative and want to leave clearance for dirt and mud. I think all Ritchey frames have E.D coating ( electrophoretic deposition ) inside the tubes. Kinda like powder coating but a liquid instead of powder. Because it is liquid it coats the entire interior of the frame I guess the outside also. Should be a permanent shield against rust. My Ritchey outback is treated with ed. One problem I had when building mine up wa sthe seat post would slip so I used some carbon anti slip stuff, solved the problem. the ED coating is slick.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes on the ED treatment. You can torque the seat tube clamp a lot. Unless you are a very heavy rider riding on dirt roads with hard hits your seat post shouldn't slip. But if you used carbon paste it helps not have to use that much torque. Thanks for watching please consider subscribing

    Probably it's been commented already, but the seat tube isn't tapered for tire clearance. It's ovalized sideways for bottom bracket stifness. It's the same tube all the way, just ovalized at the bottom. So that it's stiffer against pedaling force.

Having ridden it now would you suggest it's an upgrade worth spending quite some money on over your old frame? Also what are the rim brakes you would recommend as the standard Shimanos incldued in all the groupsets tend to ma out at 30mm clearance. Thanks, and love your vids, keep it going. P

    Hi everyone, i have posted here my experience with Ritchey Logic road but worth repeating because George is such a big fan and extremely bias . I am speaking from experience , because of this channel i purchased a Ritchey L 50th anniversary, Ultegra 11S. Hunt wide aero alloy , Ritchey bar , stem and seatpost. Continental gp5k. 28x700. Total weight 8.2kg. Very happy with the weigh, the build quality is supreme but the performance is not there. I wanted to like the bike so so bad but was disappointed, ride quality is there, climbs really well, supper stable but has no appetite for high speeds, up to 22mph average rides, upper tempo will keep up but if wanna go faster one must put down serious and consistent power, i am open to discuss this with any one who had better luck or different opinion , i have a Waterford Precession 2200 lugged frame with steel fork and is a faster bike, quicker everywhere and a lot flexier that the RL , not gonna compare with carbon bikes because there is no comparison but will compare with Caad 12. Rim , the Caad 12 runs circle around Ritchey or any other steel bike don't care who makes it, i am sorry but have to say as i have experienced it. Welcome your thoughts

      I recommend Ritchey Logic to anyone who is interested in a steel, high quality frame, reasonable price and long lasting, will be rewarded with a quality ride, can do everything other frame can but can't hold its speed or going fast. I had to average at least 50w more to maintain same speed when on the Ritchey, same position, similar builds etc.

    • @SurpriseMeJT
      @SurpriseMeJT Před 8 měsíci

      I ride a Gunnar Roadie and had a Ritchey SwissCross Canti. I loved the tube profiles on the Ritchey, but the geometry wasn't great for me as I need a steep seat tube as my torso is short. I don't ride to keep up with the fast guys anymore, not because I can't, more because it's just not what motivates me to ride. I totally agree that carbon and aluminum more often than not will perform better and help you go faster with less energy. If that's your thing, then steel isn't for you. You mention having a Waterford - what's the geometry differences between that and the Ritchey? Perhaps you aren't able to produce as much power on the Ritchey?

    • @ciprianclint
      @ciprianclint Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@SurpriseMeJT Waterford is a size 51. Very close geometry to the Ritchey, shorter tt and lower front. Is not the power i can or can't generate on the Ritchey but how lethargic the Ritchey feels compare with the others, i need to put down more watts to go as fast, in other words Ritchey makes me work a lot harder to get same results , i also own a Lemond Poprad i have converted to gravel( Ritchey carbon gravel fork). Clamped the stays to tale 40mm tires. I have a blast riding that bike, most fun !!! So i know steel , i have been fortunate to ride high quality steel frames and i am handy enough i switch components to make them similar when test, "there is nothing wrong with silver " when comes t Ritchey, very good but not the superlatives receives here. Thanks for sharing your experience. I find no difference riding my Ritchey Road Logic or my Bianchi XR4, what I would consider the other end of the technology spectrum, in local group rides. On the flats the paceline is 26-30 mph (45-50 kph) depending who shows up, on the 6-9% 2-5 min climbs power is 3.5-6 w/kg no discernible difference in power outputs I can be dropped on either bike or do the dropping on either bike.
      I have several steel bikes and several carbon bikes. The Ritchey doesn’t slow me down at all. In fact, there are plenty of PR’s on the Road Logic on uphill segments that I’ve ridden for years and years considering all the bikes I’ve owned. That’s been my experience.

    Hi George, great unboxing and review video! Highly appreciated, by a steel frame fan 😊. Could you give some additional sizing advice please? Which sizes are you and Jess riding with which size/inseam? I am 177 with 83,7 inseam and wondering whether 53 or 55 will be a better fit. Ritchey's table puts me (173-180) onto a 55 frame which has an even larger reach than my surly midnight special in 54. I started on steel decades ago & these last 6 years been on Aluminum. While considering steel I think this Ritchey will be most like what I remember. While the newer Spirt steel type bikes strike me almost to be more like thin wall aluminum with its big tubes etc. I am thinking this Ritchey with its normal sized tubes will be lively like I remember steel to be in the SL days. Hello Marco I’ve discussed this on multiple videos. Horses for courses - they are two dramatically different bikes. You can’t or shouldn’t really compare them to each other. The Tecno has a smooth ride and a 1” steel fork that tracks amazing on technical descents especially on bumpy roads (plenty of downhill PR’s on it) but it’s slow to accelerate and sprint and it’s heavy AF when loaded for a ride (2 bottles, tool kit, frame pump etc) the Ritchey is by far more spry, more nimble, more at home in a peloton yet comfortable enough for longer brevets like 600km and Paris Brest Paris 1200 km or 750 miles with 12,000 meters or 40,000 feet

      Tom Ritchey has been making steel frames for 50 years. The Road Logic has not had a chain stay bridge for a very long time. There is no history of BB failures or fatigue as you mentioned.
      My personal Road Logic from 2014 has over 16,000 miles (25,749 kms) one of many bikes I ride. There is no discernible weakness in the BB area during sprints or steep climbs.
      I think you should research Tom Ritchey before you make such a foolish claim “…some steel manufacturing/design knowledge has been lost over time”
      Modern steel alloys are significantly stiff enough to not necessitate the need for a chain stay bridge - that’s for old flexy steel bikes like my 1986 Bianchi - it has a chain stay bridge.
      My Ritchey Outback has a chain stay bridge. But that has extra long chain stays at 453mm whereas the Road Logic is only 410mm.
