You can see the show’s “anarchy unless specified” nature formulating here when they’re debating about whether boiling the eggs is sportmanlike. A couple seasons later that wouldn’t even be a discussion.

Romesh managed to be the one of the two to not break any eggs in the "get the egg as high as possible" task, only to nullify that effect by destroying a family of chicken in a golf game.

It occurs to me that the letter says “complete the five holes.” The holes don’t specify a starting point (lots of mini-golf places have a rubber mat or something similar), so it could be assumed that you could just set the egg at the edge of each hole and tap it in.
I noticed that too but didnt put too much thought into it until I read this
Just tape the egg to the club and you can get as many holes as you like without taking a shot. Score: 0

Alternatively, you can put the club(stick) on the ground and push.
Or just tape a string to an egg and drag it around.
But if you don't do anything, then the challenge is not completed.

Greg so young and naive. Asking Alex what the rules are and how much the contestants can break them.
In "real" golf, you are not allowed to "push" the ball with the club. Rule 10.1 states: In making a stroke:
The player must fairly strike at the ball with the head of the club such that there is only momentary contact between the club and the ball and must not push, scrape or scoop the ball.
Roisin at least should have received a penalty stroke for each time she "swept" the ball.
Also not allowed to strike the ball or egg while it is moving. So Rosin could possibly have been penalized 10-fold. And Tim's hits while the "ball" was still moving on the ramp, would fall in this category and results in a two-stroke penalty.

As a golf player, sweeping is most acceptable. Actually, it's the only way you should putt. Hitting the ball while putting is most inaccurate.

maybe it is possible if you blow the eggs through the course, with a leafblower or so, that doesnt count as a shot and it would indeed be 0 shots x a few eggs x some minutes

As your score still hasn't been verified at this time, is still counting and is currently being calculated, we'll get back to you with your points when your infinite time has stopped counting."
It's not zero points given, it's just no points given until a score can be set, which will probably be way after all persons in this show have perished. Perhaps when the sun dies and planet earth is destroyed in a couple of billion years, the participant will get 5 points in the task with the perfect score of zero.
Then again, winning by not actually striking the eggs and just casually herding the eggs around is absolute shit as well.

@@carpetclimber4027 Infinity isn't a number though. Regardless of how long the round would take, the result would still be 0. It could then be argued that since the show doesn't have that kind of time to wait, the theoretical result, 0, could be used in lieu of a practical result which cannot be acquired.

The calculated the points as: Shots * Eggs * Minutes = Score.
Since the goal is to get the lowest points, then if they took no shots at all maybe they could win.
Anything multiple by zero is zero, so zero shots multiplied will result in a winning score of 0.

If they didn't use any eggs and just said "I'm done" then technically their score would be 0 at the end because regardless of time anything times 0 is 0. Unless the judges argued that they didn't complete the course, which is true but they never said there was a time limit and at the time of judging it would be 0*0* a really high number.

The Clubs were a fakeout then. It only says get the lowest golf score, doesnt even say you NEED to play golf. I would have just dropped them in.
TBH they could have easily placed the eggs near the holes at the beginning and be done with one shots.

I'm incredibly surprised that not one thought to cheat by just placing the egg next to the hole, and pushing it in... Or better yet, just place one egg in a hole, take it out, put in the next hole, and so on, all by hand. No shots, so nothing to multiply. Zero is the lowest number.

Wasn't the obvious solution to just take no shots? The goal is to get the lowest score and it's all multiplication. If you take zero shots, no matter what your result will be zero, which is the lowest possible score.

Part of the task demands that you “must complete the 5 holes using eggs” so you would still need to get the eggs into each hole. But arguably the loophole of picking up the eggs and putting them in is still there, just that no one tried it so we have no idea if Greg would have gone for it

Well if you think about it, the scoring formula was = time x eggs used x shots made.
If you just walked away and didn't use a single egg, or make a single shot, that'd be a total score of zero.
The best strategy here would be to just walk away.
There was no rule saying you had to hit the egg. Meaning that you could just pick it up and put it in the hole.... which would mean that your number of hits is either 0 or 1. If it's 0, then every hole would be 0 and it's an instant win.

I feel like Greg's bit with Roisin about knowing nothing about golf 'Do I have to use a club' heavily implies that you were meant to play it like golf, and that Greg would've just DQed anyone who did that.
Having watched the tasks available here in CZcams, I'm inclined to agree: several tasks have been completed (and approved by Alex and Greg) by observing what's NOT written in the instruction. If something's not spelled out as forbidden, contestants have won by exploiting that. So when the task doesn't specify that you have to abide by the standard rules of mini golf, I'd say you can pretty much do what you want.
However, there's one unspoken rule I think everyone feel compelled to follow: don't be an arse and take the fun out of it. And maybe that's what stopped them, because it wouldn't be much of a challenge or even funny if one of them tried it. Well, maybe just a little funny...
