For what it’s worth I’ve been sewing for roughly 40 years and was taught by my mother, who was an incredibly talented seamstress. I’ve made a shift recently from garment sewing to sewing accessories. I will also watch many tutorials on the same subject to gather bits and bobs on construction techniques. I’ve learned a lot from this video and would like to thank you for sharing your expertise!! ❤
@@vksdub7185No, you avoid sewing the the tabs at all cost. They is why she added the 1/8 turn of cloth. She will sew with a 3/8 seam and that 1/8 allows you to avoid hitting that tab. That total space was 1/2” only 3/8 of the 1/2 inch is sewn .
Myrna is there a reason why you cannot stitch the lining side down the same distance as the top side stitching ? That same area would be left free of the stitching .You would still have both seam area free. Have you ever had the lining get stuck in the zipper ?
What a great teacher! Everything orderly, neat, with professional results at the end. Easy to understand, bright and uncluttered surroundings, no musical distraction, happy personality - I can’t wait to try this in the morning Myrna, thank you so much!
It was the pleased little giggle and “I’m so proud of myself” at the end for me! 🤣😍I think we all felt that with you! So much work, but it really paid off. Now I wonder what my husband will think when I pull out the hammer when I start my next sewing project! 🔨😅 Thank you!
Thanks. I'm a huge believer in celebration. Everyone should have their own hammer. Go shopping. It's a fabulous section of Home Depot. SO MANY other things to look at too.
Hi Myrna. Hello from Chicago. I have been stitching zippered pouches, little bags etc. as a hobby for the past 20 years or so but was never happy with the finish of the zippers!! Glad that I came across your wonderful technique with plenty of tips !! Watching you use a hammer to press down /straighten the top edges of the pouch ... @17.48 minutes, was superb !! Many Hearty Thanks!!
This video is really helpful and I appreciate you for taking the time to post this video. I hate to hear you’ve had trouble with CZcams but THANK YOU for keeping this post up!! You’re a great teacher!
Thanks. Not trouble with CZcams in that they have been difficult... just it changes so much that it's impossible to rely on and build around. I enjoyed making videos. My software expired just after I posted the knitting one and it's not in my budget to renew it right now especially as I'm Canadian and it's in US dollars. We'll see what happens.
As a hardcore pouch addict, I can never get enough tips on creating the 'perfect' pouch, and your video is chock-full of great tips, thanks! (Now if I can only perfect my boxed corners, lol!)
I've been praying for a zipper fairy and now I've found you. Yes I make bags and pouches but you had tools I've never seen or used. The hammer 🔨 trick will be getting a workout.
Bravo Myrna. I can't believe how much I picked up from this quick video. An explanation of why you're doing, what you're doing, is the glue that makes an idea stick and it's missing from just about every other tutorial I watch. It's nice to be reminded that taking your time and properly pressing out seams makes a huge difference in the finished product. My mother taught me that, but I got caught up in all the quick-make tutorials out there and have lots of wonky pouches to prove it. I never understood the significance of the texture change on zip tape. Thanks to you, I finally understand where I'm supposed to sew to get a good result on my zippers. Also love your idea of extending the tab length a bit so you have a launch and landing area for the presser foot.
THANK YOU. Your detailed feedback is fabulous in helping me share what I know... which is what I really want to do... to support and encourage other's creativity. I love how one idea leads to another and if we just follow the path, it's an adventure of learning and fun.
Oh my goodness. I never make comments on these but this one I just had to. She is amazing. I have tried to make bags for the better part of 10 years , and learn ed so much from her. So many of the irritating little things I’ve not been able to fix she showed me how to. And she’s too cute as well. Really truly recommend this video and learning from her. She’s a great teacher.
I have made many pouches but I learned several things about measuring, marking, reducing bulk and proper pressing. And you reminded me how nice Batik fabric works for linings because it’s thin, yet tightly woven and sturdy. Thank you. I’ll be following you from now on!😊
Woman, I love you! When you got out that hammer to pound out the bulk, I had to laugh out loud. You don’t know how much I can relate to the hassle of trying to sew over that area and to keep it even so that everything looks matched when you turn it back out. Thank you for all these wonderful, helpful hints!
In my quilting circle, I complain about how a quilt top, I had been given, was not lying flat. One member said pound it with a hammer. It made me smile when I heard it again from a professional.
I like that cute little laugh at the end of the video and the "I'm so proud of myself"! Exactly how I feel when I finish a project. The fabrics used are gorgeous!
I'm so happy to come across your video. Your video will definitely improve my bag/pouch making. Thank you for sharing your technique. You should be very proud!!!
Very clear. I agree with others that a clear voice with no distracting music is much more pleasant. You are also not wasting time showing how the machine sews. Instead, you explain the process. I have been sewing for 50 years or more and appreciate the precision.
Hi. Thank you so much for the very detailed tutorial. My favorite part was you giggling with joy at how great it turned out, I feel the same way when my projects turn out great! ❤
Fantastic! I love that you press the seams open versus sandwiching them. I also always felt they fit better and having a perfectly fit lining is the attention to details that many overlook! Great video, can't wait to look at your others.
Thank you. One of the great things about having a toolbox is knowing which technique to use where. There is a place for butted seams and this isn't it. Thanks for the encouragement.
Thank you so much, Myrna! I had never tried zipper tabs before but with your instruction, I feel like my pouches are going to look so much better. Next level, for sure! You are delightful and I'm your newest subscriber!
thanks for taking the time to figure out and share all the details that have bothered me. It's simple to make a pouch but you went the extra mile here to deal with the problem areas. Thank YOU!!!
Fantastic video. I've been making bags for a while but never have I gotten such a beautiful finish as you've taught here. Thank you so much for the tips and expertise. I'm so glad to see that you make your own fabrics to use for these bags too. I'll be looking for your video on that process next. Great way to use up scraps.
Now THIS is the video I needed all along! All of my questions have been answered in this one video. Thank you so much. I can't wait to hit the sewing machine and fabric/zipper stash. Mahalo nui!
