I've been tearing my hair out trying to get zippers with tabs installed! As someone else said this is the first time I've seen someone say to sew the inner and outer layers separately. Can't wait to try this. Thanks!
@@bunny-nn1oo Unfortunately with everything else going on, I haven't even had a chance to try it yet. I did notice on her pouch where she sewed the top stitching on the outside fabric, the stitch line didn't go *quite* all the way to the edge of the fabric. I don't know what your project ended up looking like, so I don't know if that might have had any effect?
@@SoulsJourney There is a hole in between the side of the pouch and the tab. If the tab is fully out, the hole is visible, if I try to put the tab in, it's sucked in, because the opening is still triangular. :(
@@SoulsJourney The other thing is that she never shows the pouch from the side (or I can't find it), where the hole between side seam and the tab is. Maybe it doesn't look good from that side. I can make it look good from the top and front, but not from the side
@@bunny-nn1oo That's frustrating. Since you reminded me about this, I think I'll give one a try in the next couple of days. I'll come back and let you know how I make out with it.
Wow thanks Sara! I hadn't thought about breaking it down like this and sewing the exterior separate from the lining to make it neater. This is genius, I'm excited to try
Perfect demo on zipper tabs! I searched “perfect zipper tabs” on YT and thankfully yours was the first to pop up! Excellent video and now my bag edge/zippers won’t be wonky anymore! THANK YOU!
I agree! My zippers were trash before this video. I tried last year to get it right watching CZcams tutorials and now finally I can do it thanks to this amazing tutorial!
Thank you sooo much! In my mind's eye, I knew the seams should be separate for each side. However, previous tutorials instructed me to sew across the both the lining and the front fabric on those side seams. I'm also going to insert my zipper foot that I purchased! So enlightening!
Thank u so much for walking me through/I usually just get them done and hope they don’t look to wonky. Beautiful fabric and excellent team effort a joy to watch, well done both x
Amazing, thank you so much! Exactly the information I was after. My first attempt was terrible - hence lots of internet searching and eventually I found your great tutorial!
Extremely clear explanations including reasons for doing each technique. Also much appreciated encouragement at the end to help you realise its okay to get it wrong - it just needs practise.
Very well explained and detailed, and the up-close camera work is so helpful!! I especially loved the end where you say not to be hard on yourself! Practice really does make perfect ... thank you for this video!
Thank you so much. My first try on a lined pouch couldn't have turned out more perfectly. I'm really happy with it. Took me a while to make the first pouch because I was stopping to refer to your video along the way but subsequent ones will go much faster now that I know the technique with your tricks. Thanks again.
I don't make bags, but I do make quilts. I watch your channel because I really enjoy the videos. And one of these days I might surprise myself and make a bag. Thank you for being available and making a spot where learning is encouraged.❤🌞
I told a quilt store owner that I couldn’t make bags. She said “oh yes you can!” That was thirty some years ago and I am addicted to bag making. Give it a try…so much fun.
Thank you so much. This is an extremely helpful video. Your oral explanation, coupled with close up video clips, make all the difference. I’d never thought of sewing in half sections, sewing one side seam of the bag and then flipping the bag over to the other side just so it is easier to complete. Sometimes we just need reminders and suggestions to do things a different way. A good reminder that there are no seam police present and to give yourself permission to do things your own unique way. This mindset also helps work around the constraints of individual sewing machines.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I am new to pouch and bag making. The tabs really make a clean finished product. Your video is EXCEPTIONALLY EXCELLENT !!! Thank you for the great visuals. 😁😁😁
Thank you so much. Me too I have been sewing zippers for a year-and-a-half and this is the best tutorial ever. Thank you for going very slow and showing in detail Mahalo as the Hawaiians say thank you
Nice. I will give this a try again with your provided tips. Those ones pictured where people were having trouble, gosh, those all could have been my fails!
But isnt there a tiny gap, where the tab is not sewn/connected to the body of the bag? (and i even saw your tool go thru one of those holes while pushing out the corners). I loved the video ...clear, concise and the zoom-ins were appreciated
I really needed this video! I’ve done all my zipper tabs the way the very first pattern I made said to do them. One side would look nice but the other would be a mess….. Every. Single. Time. And I still don’t know what I am doing wrong…..thirty years on. So…..going to try your method and hope they come out the same. Thank you.
WOW! Thank you for such a detailed video. I've been sewing zippers for years and just Love your method. This id going to make it much easier for me. Can I make a suggestion if you have a double issued zipper foot is to move the needle to right or left depending on which side of the foot you're using.
I've also noticed that the topstitching begins and ends at the tab and not into the seam allowance. I think maybe that I was making that mistake. It looks much nicer this way. Thanks for the tips! I'm going to try this on my next project.

Did it work for you? I followed the instructions and I'm not really happy with the results. I'm wondering what am I doing wrong

Best zipper tab tutorial EVER!!! Thank you x
The best zipper tab tutorial I've seen. Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video, your zipper foot tip worked so well and the idea starting in the middle made each folded end so much easier to sew.

Wowzie! I’m blown away! This is magnificent! Thank you!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
