Wow! On top of the wonderful butler method - - - 1: Don’t topstitch lining to zipper ribbon, 2: Sew across lining, then rip open seam. You’ve just greatly improved my bags going forward - Thanks!!
I finished my bag today and I wanted to say that a couple of the tips shared should be used by all. First, the tip about sewing the lining seam at 3/8” and the actual bag seam at 1/4”. This works really well because it does make the lining fit nicely and easily inside the bag. And the other tip is sewing the bag lining on the bottom and backstitching in the two places and then pulling the stitches out in the middle in order to birth the bag. This works great because once you have finished birthing the bag and are ready to sew up that seam the fabric will fold inside naturally and then you just sew it shut. Those are two great ideas and they work! Thanks, Amy Lynne.
