- Ever since LIyue's archon quest ended, and his secret was revealed, I wanted to find out who are the other people that know his true form. In this video, I explore all characters, playable and non-playable and see if they know about Zhongli and his real identity. I hope you enjoy the video :D

Adepti = all existing pure iluminated beings, so Madam Ping and Gouba are included in that. Ganyu is half-adeptus so I mentioned her separately.

Ganyu is the general secretary of the Qixing and half-adeptus, also has a close relationship with Cloud Retainer. She definitely knows.
Madame Ping seems to know that Morax is still alive as seen on the dialogues when we we're tasked to get the cleansing bell and her interaction with Zhongli during the Moonchase festival. Guoba can also sense his old friend in Zhongli eventhough a millenia have passed and now has an amnesia.

Hu Tao is kind of curious if Zhongli is not a mortal based on her voice line.

not only hutao, but also yanfei, her dad seems to know him according to her lines, but when she ask her dad her dad said to ignored it, thus it increase her curiousity, she even planned to obtained infos about zhongli đđ
i reason that hu tao lines about zhongli was more about her impression with life/death rather than adepti/mortal. i dont know her character much but i'd group her to the kind of people who doesnt mind seeing immortals daily

Among the Liyue Qixing, there's also someone else who's implied to know about Zhongli's identity - Uncle Tian, the "Tianshu", the old guy on the fishing boat who's similarly living an "incognito" life and looks up to Ganyu. His updated dialogue after finishing Ganyu's story quest has the line : " ...I hope that "he" too can enjoy his freedom, now that he has thrown off his yoke."

Edit: He's around the water area where 2 parts of Liyue Harbour meet. He's there in daytime (in game) near the dockyard.
What he says doesn't indicate he knows Zhongli is Rex Lapis, though. The only thing you can say that he knows for sure is the same amount that Ningguang and Keqing know. Which is that Rex Lapis is still alive and left his old identity to enjoy some freedom.
Honestly the qixing is really a mystery. There have like spies at wangshu inn and there's a fisher that took out a ruin hunter easily. Liyue is really packed with OP factions lmao

Xiao definitely knows he's Morax. After all, in the CN and JP dub, Xiao refers to him with specific honorifics. (-daren in CN, -sama in JP)
Update; Chasm questline involving Yelan confirms this. He addresses him as Rex Lapis.

"Airhead" will always make me think of the "Tales of" series, as there is a line in one about someone being an "air head", to which someone asks what they mean. They get told "They must be good at wind magic!"

could it be said that ganyu is just the status quo of born adeptus live like a human? she integrate herself into the Qixing and also one of the adeptus that shows up in the vs Weisht battle other than Cloud Retainer, 'a battle fought by humans'
It gets more than a bit debatable because many characters clearly know Zhongli isn't a normal human, but with the other Adepti running around not-so-secretly, it's easy to just assume he's another one of them.
My headcanon is that Hu Tao knows though, because Zhongli is around her far more than anyone else. Ganyu does seem pretty oblivious on the other hand, but she also just seems pretty out-of-it in general, constantly drifting through life half-asleep.

Hu Tao DEFINITELY knows. Her line gives it away, though she doesnât explicitly tell you. She also knows other secrets of the Adepti, considering the relationship between Morax and the Wangsheng Funeral Parlour goes back a LONG time.

Madame Ping knows Zhongli's identity too, it was showed on the last part of Marchosius' limited story event quest that she spoke with Zhong at the end when Marchosius meet Zhong
not only that she also spoke about zhongli as her "old friend", when we retrieve the bell and ask us to invite him for tea.
I wonder if Alice truly knows Zhongli. Considering she actually travelled with him, it won't be surprise she knows. She may know Venti, but it was really vague on how if she figure it out. Was it a scheme to hook the god of wind on her shenanigans? Or planned ahead plan with Venti?
I think Alice care a lot for monstad but won't go defending it directly at least. plus Alice is a mastermind in all kind of ways without even going there she might have some skill, spell, or with astrology she might know everything then.

@@hakun0695 Teyvat Travel Guide Volume 2. Alice's travel companion throughout Liyue was Zhongli. Either she knows him but omit the part that he's the Geo Archon on the book, or by dumb luck hired him as her personal tour guide. Either way, Zhongli laughed and Xiao was called a weirdo.
I really hope we get to see more of Barbatos and not Venti. He seems to be really wise when he talks to the traveller as Barbatos and not as Venti.

The fact that most people see Zhongli as normal human (so far), it means that Morax already prepared his new identity as Zhongli for long time. I mean, isn't it weird that someone named Zhongli suddenly appear after Morax died?

Well he did say he took on many mortal forms, and i presume when he had the idea to fake his death when he heard someone to "finish the day", he already had his form as zhongli. So he just made some arragemeng witg the fatui and stayed as zhongli afterwards

somehow I want to mention Hu Tao in this video. Her lines about Zhongli is quite interesting and it fits her personality as a trickster so idk whether she knows about Morax or not.
Trickster or not sis just vibes with supernatural stuff and she probably saw that "adeptal aura" from him. But Liyue has a lot of adepti these days so she might as well let it slid
based on the lines, she gets the sense of immortality (or at least can live very very long) on zhongli, and we know her obsession of qiqi

I don't think ganyu knows bc she only has a voiceline about Morax and not zhongli, and her voiceline about Morax doesn't really imply that she knows he's still alive and is zhongli, she's still very much reminiscing morax when he was still "alive"
Also fun fact Xiao's JP voice calls Zhongli "Shouri-sama" which further proves he knows about him, he hasn't called anyone else with a honorific, much less one that basically means "master"
Edit: i also just realized, but xiao is closely associated and familiar with dreams in his lore, having (forcibly) eaten possibly hundreds if not thousands of dreams, and zhongli sent the adepti and ningguang a dream that he's not dead, maybe he figured out the source of the dream or smth
Also, Xiao seems to sound genuinely curious and his tone seems to held more respect only to Zhongli. And why would the almighty vigilant yaksha be flustered when asking about what Zhongli do in his days. He clearly know Zhongli is Morax

Archon Quest on Liyue, "the part were we are picking flowers with Zhongli, and we suddenly met Ganyu". That part of the quest basically hinted that Ganyu doesn't know that Morax = Zhongli. If you rewatch the Archon Quest, Ganyu also stated that Morax is dead, which implies that she didn't know that it was a "fake death" done by Zhongli.
there's definitely only a few people/adepti that know. he made sure to only make it obvious to the ones that he may be trusting of. Ningguang's voiceline indicates to me she would use him too as pawn, if she knew his identity she may be troublesome to him a bit. Ningguang may have made that up, knowing he's alive, but not knowing the identity.
edit: replayed the quest on a new acc. ning and the qixing definitely know/are aware he's alive(paimon talks if him being alive in their presence after the fight) , but most likely only the adepti know who he is in identity(may not include yanfei or ganyu idk)
Dainsleif knows and I'm going to assume Alice also knows because she's practically omniscient, especially given the praise by Albedo who wouldn't just toss around the word "omnipotent" so lightly when describing someone like her.

If we put on our tinfoil hats, Ying'er could also be a candidate for someone who knows. We got two events recently (Ningguang's hangout and potion event) that gave her some spotlight and it shed some light on how she's deceptively intelligent, her personality is most likely a facade. Imagine she talks with Traveler and Zhongli and makes a remark that she knows Zhongli is Morax only to then take back the comment and pretend she was just joking.
Mona's old master could also be aware since she is also a master of astrology. Maybe to a lesser extent Mona, but that one's a stretch
in the moonchase event, madame ping knows that zhongli is rex.
i think she knows that rex faked his death from the moment we ask for the cleansing bell.
or even from the beginning, thru out the archon quest unlike the other adeptus, she never show any sadness or anger.

She's specifically said to forget about it as she dying so I personally think it just silly love confession if he could ever open it but since she's gonna die she just want him to forget about it cause it meaningless now.

After the second part of this year's lantern rite, we can safely say that Madam Ping, the 3 living animal adepti, and Ganyu knows who Zhong Li is.

Imagine Ei visits Liyue for idk some random reason and she sees Zhongli just enjoying his life...which would definitely be different from how she has seen him before...why would that be so funny like just Ei staring like "wtf - what happened to the bloodthirsty geo archon fromthe archon war" imagine Venti is there to that would make it even funnier
Xingqiu definitely doesn't know anything, but he has a similar voiceline to Yanfei in that he says that he wants to find out more about Zhongli! He mentions that he directs funerals for the adepti and "must surely have great depth to his character", which makes me feel like he at least has a feeling that Zhongli is a pretty special person

It was found during the moonchase festival event when gouba stood near to zhongli
even before zhongli's revelation(1.1) she kinda gave us the hints already that zhongli is indeed morax. In fact, theory crafters often use her voicelines to theorize that zhongli is the geo archon (aside from the statue and his hair being compared to venti)..

Ganyu doesn't know cause she spent most of her time in Liyue overworking herself.
This made me curious if Zhongli used to fight in his dragon form back then cuz he fought alongside Ganyu. But the cutscenes says otherwise cuz he use his human form with archon outfit back then. How come Ganyu can't recognize him. Plus the statue of the seven resembles zhongli so much
She probably never saw Zhongli in Liyue cause she busy overworking herself. She might not even knows Zhongli alive cause based on her voicelines it seems to imply that she working so hard is because she think Rex Lapis works harder than her. If she knows Rex Lapis faked his death to retire she would be in for a surprise.
@@shiroxkuro934 well, she saw Zhongli with the Traveler during the Quest for the Glaze Lily (the one when Traveler sang a song to a Whopperflower) and she didn't recognize him, moreover she was actually mourning Rex Lapis back then. It's easier to assume that she simply doesn't know and doesn't suspect anything - I mean, we are speaking of the same person who invited the Traveler on the Jade Chamber following the request of Ningguang and actually forgot to tell the password to have access to the Chamber itself...

You forgot about Azdaha (The Good One) Knowing that Morax is now Zhongli, As you can see from the 2nd Story Quest on Zhongli's.

I am obsessed with genshin and I love the lore but it is hard sometimes to put the lore together in a way I can understand. You explain the lore in a simple and logical way. Thankyou so much for your videos! I canât wait to see more content as genshin releases more lore! OwO
Thank you for this. Thereâs some dialogues i tend to skip and missed on important details like this. Morax is indeed different from othet archons and is highly intelligent. Just hoping that, as Baal described it, his story will continue on. We need more Zhongli arc where he reveals his knowledge and secrets about the world, and maybe even Guizhong. The latest that we hear of them is from the Jade Cutter, though implied.

Iâm surprised anyone is fooled by Moraxâs and Barbatosâ disguises. They look exactly like their statues, except theyâre wearing different outfits. Not to mention they retain their elemental colors no matter what form they take.

The hint heâs alive that he gave to the adepti was Ningguangâs dream. Because it is an adepti art. Rex Lapis shared a dream with her, in order for him to cast this art he must still alive. Thatâs why all the adepti were surprised when Ningguang said it.
After like my 25th account, it took me that embarrassing amount of time to realize that the dream Ningguang mentioned after their battle with Osial was linked to Zhongliâs mention of the adepti art of gifting people dreams

So Rex Lapis had a backup plan he knew his adepti buddies will go into a fit of rage when they find out he 'died', so he communicated through Ningguang telepathically giving a hint that he's still alive. Smart

i don't think ganyu know that zhongli is morax. when traveler and zhongli meet ganyu while searching for wild glaze lily, the way she sad about losing rex lapis is so true.
i think among the adepti WHEN traveler told them rex lapis is dead, only xiao doubt about it. while others adepti enraged, he's so calm like he know his master plotting about something he doesn't know yet but just follow what the adepti about to do anyway.

Recent quest hinted us that qixing want to prove human can protect them self, if the story turn to liyue must have an archon probably liyue will have new archon
the reason why zhongli retired from being an archon was because he sees that liyue doesn't need one anymore. Times have changed and both the citizens and zhongli sees that so he willingly stepped down. So the chances of there being a new archon is quite slim. I think the great war you are talking about might be with zhongli rather the new archon. Although i still have some doubts whether we will be fighting celestia or the abyss.. join the abyss with ur twin and rebel against teyvat/celestia or be with the friends you made in teyvat, that's what i imagine the final conflict would be. (kinda like kaeya lore lol)

there is bunch of diffrent quest. Where zhongli and other people mention that Liyue is now _"Gained independent"_ from its Archon.
What i mean is Liyue is now able to stand alone without a guide of Archon. Just like country in real life. And also the reason why Morax faked his death. Its a Test for Liyue stability without their Archon. So thats mean Liyue wont have any other Archon they probably stand alone as a nation with no Archon.
Why he did that? Because of a "corrosion" he affraid a thing that happend to azdaha happend to him *It will happend to him* That Made him destroy Liyue. So he decided to retire before its too late.
Seeing Childe striking his fancy pose with a 1-star Bow bothers me more than it should.
When ningguang tell about her dream about Rex lapis appearing that was the hint and remember when morax told us to get the bell from ms ping which is once borrowed by morax that was the first hint i mean only adeptus and morax know the existence of the bell

Ninnguang didn't mention this truth to every Qixing , Keqing is still in the dark , one of the Qixing that know of it is Uncle Tian. After completing Yelan's quest if you talk to him at the docks , he says "I hope "he" too is enjoying his freedom" which clearly implies of the said above.
Remember when Xiao uses a dream trawler on that FAKE Adepti? That's the type of method Morax used to get to Ningguang's dream

Hu Tao suspects Zhongli is most likely an adepteus, since he simply knows too much and recounts details of the long gone past as if he was there. She loves his advice, especially when it comes to Wangsheng Funeral Parlor matters, which makes sense since the Parlor initially worked for him so he would possess a lot of useful insight. She trusts him the most out of all her employees and sees him as a "dusty soul", implying she knows he is far older than he looks. I'm pretty sure she has already realised he is the Geo Archon, but doesn't care since he would tell her directly if she needs to know and he does his job the best.

All Illuminated Beasts are native Liyuean Mystical Beasts and all Adepti are Illuminated Beasts that follow Rex Lapis and have a contract with him for example both Ganyu and Yan Fei are Half-Illuminated Beasts and Half Human however only Ganyu is considered an Adepti meanwhile since Yan Fei has no contract with Rex Lapis she is just a Illuminated Beast and not an Adepti, so Illuminated Beast is their Species while Adepti is the Status or Class or Group of Beings they belong to.

I feel it's because he has left that life behind. He now sees Rex Lapis/Morax and Zhongli as 2 different people tho both are still himself. Because he has turned a new leaf and decided to live the rest of his life as Zhongli. Kinda like how Venti, despite still being a god lives as somewhat a mortal. Living from paycheck to paycheck (or in this case, apples an wine) singing their tunes and enjoying a simple life.
Xiao definitely knows Zhongli is Rex Morax as he asks for permission in perilous trail, the latest archon quest.
I wait for the day that they make an archon event or story for Zhongli where he has all the MVP's like Ganyu, Ningquan, Keqing etc know that he is Morax. It made me sad when Ganyu first came out for her first banner feeling lonely and I was just yelling at the TV saying that Rex is still alive. I was also hoping that the Lantern rite event would be attacked by the hydras so that Zhongli would get involved and end those two for good.

Thereâs definitely characters who know heâs alive but donât know his identity. I donât think the Qixing knows who he is. But Cloud Retainer clearly does considering Shenheâs voice line. Xiao does, obviously. Childe does, also obviously. Madame Ping knows. Presumably the other adepti minus Ganyu know. Yanfei doesnât. And the other archons weâve met know. Hu Tao suspects heâs an adeptus, but not Rex Lapks. I think thatâs it, but I might be missing someone.
You know fun fact, if someone for example a merchant were to return to Liyue after the abolishment of its lockdown and the vision hunt decree, if they happen to have knowledge of the corruption the remains of dead celstial's can cause, it'd be quite interesting to watch them oppose people or rather try to convince them that Morax is not in fact dead.

There is also one milileth knows who Zhongli is. He is near the bubu pharmacy if my memory serves me right. He just observe him and said "he is different" from other. I cant remember his name but try to talk all milileth near that area.
The adeptus take one look at zhongli and know, who he is... they have known each other for thousands of years... beside when we went to borrowed madame Ping bell, she already know he still alive... because Morax was the one that gave her the bell. I think only the two of them know the whereabouts of the bell...
