I swear Jeff Jones, he is single handedly responsible for getting more of my favourite cards on the Forbidden and Limited list than any other player. Stratos, Spore, Dandylion, Glow-Up Bulb and so many others.

Why was he so good in non hero decks?
Sebastian that my friend is very simple. It's simply because Elemental Hero was the best and only +1 recruiter at that point in the game (besides the Gadgets) and he could also recruit himself. Not only that his second effect (S/T destruction) gave him a lot more flexibility to use more than one copy if you wanted to.

I don't understand why he's banned his backrow removal effect is shit he's overall a Deneb his effect to be used multiple times only works if you open revival cards which is not the most consistent and honestly he's good at 1 since we have e hero calling searching can't be that game breaking when we just got Gateway backfor sams that is problematic searching Stratos is just good but not broke some crappy decks from 2007 can't still be the reason he's banned

if he did what he was supposed to do like in the manga he wouldn't be banned "you can halve this card's ATK until the End Phase to allow this card to attack your opponent directly this turn."

5:15 Maaaan... I look at that Deck and it gives me shivers. I miss good old generic Warrior Decks so much.
I was the only kid of my friends that got the shonen jump that stratos first came out in. I threw him into an OG heroes deck, I'm talking Rampart Blaster, Wingman, etc, and never lost against any of my friends with the deck solely because of him.
Out one day and wins a huge championship then almost immediately ban listed. What a meteoric rise and fall.
Stratos Unchained
Here is the thing. Stratos did 3 things. 1 Was a steady attacker, 2 added hero monster including himself (could of been errata only other hero monsters excluding himself) 3 destroy spell and traps up to the number of hero monsters. (i believe he was errata to other her monsters for the destruction effect.) the rest of the cards in the did all the work. Stratos was a option play at any point when needed when you needed to thin the deck if he is the only target by 1 card, or pop 1 card. Once again i believe they changed that. When he went 1 it was all the revival cards that made him the problem. Also bad format design is also konami fault.
Did quick check. Stratos original text did require another hero monster on the field for his destruction effect. So it is possible people not reading cards was also at fault for stratos hype. The second effect to add was always search for a ehero or dhero until they errata to say hero monster. Errata 1 changed to allow ehero dhero and or evil hero to a requirement for his destruction effect. His third errata messed up and removed the requirement of other hero need to trigger. I remember during that era even in shop tourneys people were only counting stratos himself to use the destruction ability and there was only 1 of him on the board.
Considering the TCG is not afraid to have slightly different boundaries on cards as far as an errata will go, also considering the TCG still does not have an errata’d Chaos Emperor Dragon, it would not surprise me if the TCG made the errata first and then later having that move onto the OCG or just have it completely separate like the case with Chaos Emperor Dragon. Possibly an Errata along the lines of restricting Stratos to activating either effect only once per turn and restricting the adding effect to either only Elemental Hero monsters or a searching effect similar to Isolde where the added card can not be normal summoned or activate its effects this turn. Of course that will make Stratos infinitely worse but that’s the trend as far as errata’s have gone. And also it will more or less fix any of those absurd over the top combos. Hell add the clause that Stratos only gets his effect when he’s normal summoned I don’t care just give him back. #FreeMyNinjaStratos

I was using a gadget control deck around that time and got 3 place in a toysrus tournament (went undefeated in the preliminaries but lose to a stealth bird deck (beat him in preliminaries) and won against jinzo). The deck ran a cyber dragon (think he was limited at the time) and 2 frost Monarchs)
The real problem back then was dimension fusion

Basically zaloog is really a win condition in that deck with all that control support (also these days the meta was slow) so at 2 its good because you can se him more often in your hand (at 3 its too much, you dont wanna see 2-3 Dons in your first hand too often)

it was at a time where deck thinning was prime and plus one made a huge difference only people who played in slower yugo can understand that this was also at a time where backrow actually existed so the mst effect was relevant

AirBlade Turbo the same deck that won this SJC. The Ocg had it a lot longer than we did and it was basically unstoppable .

Trash. I was young (mb 15) and ran an ultimate insect LV deck. Got 1 game win and 0 match wins. Game win was against my dad. It was also his only match win. Back then we played to have fun not to win.

Why would someone use stratos in a deck that's not heroes stratos doesn't work in non hero deck because he can't use his effect to search hero monsters so
Stratos *CAN* Search himself. That's part of what made him the best monster in game.
I like the story but you never stated why or how stratos was good. You never even mentioned what his effect is.
Well Stratos effect is on the card at the beginning of the video. As for why he was so strong/good its because he could search the entire Elemental and Destiny Hero archetypes on Summon (in this event many just searched more copies of himself essentially turning him into a giant Gadget). Also he had spell and trap removal built into the package. In an advantage based era of Yugioh Stratos was the perfect mix of great stats, raw potential (s/t removal effect) and simple advantage (summon him and instantly get a free monster).

I wouldnt call Stratos a bad card though. His history disqualified his as being called bad period. You should blame the Archetype not the card. And isnt the OCG still in a tier 0 Spyral format? So can you really use that as an example currently
