      A spell that draws 1 card is op, because if there are enough exodia is an ftk.
      Pot of greed can never be powercreeped, because even drawing one would be too good, but a spell that draws 2 with no downsides is better than a card can be.

Bad Management. Also, "GK" = Gravekeeper? If so nah. Stein was either played in a deck focused around him simply to at one time to OTK or, the most played way back then, in Monarch Toolbox decks, the best deck back then.

      @esseubot Před 6 lety +15

      This. I found quite strange the quoted sentence when I heard it myself. The game has reached a point of speed and power creep that, that phrase can be used to any deck. While it is arguable that Stein can pump out high ammounts of damage, in todays meta the number of negate and similar effects is so high that, I believe, Stein wouldnt make a difference.

    • @baval5
      @baval5 Před 6 lety

      sure Stein himself is an ok card, probably even decent, but the comment i was replying to was implying that cyber stein would be enough to beat modern decks, "stein would rip them up". This implys to me a Cyber Stein turbo.
      Sure if you put Cyber Stein into a True Draco deck it would likely be better, but it will only do well because its still True Draco. Stein himself doesnt change strategies, hes just a pure power card with no protection at all, hes like Monster Reborn.

    I think it is important to mention that this was after they changed the ruling on Last Will. Previously, you had to activate it before a monster was destroyed to get its effect but then they changed it that you could play it after a monster was destroyed and search. This meant that if if your opponent used Torrential Tribute, or Ring of Destruction you could play Last Will and immediately win with Cyber Stein, or you could tribute summon Zaborg to destroy a FD and see if the coast was clear first before going for the win with Stein to hit for exactly 8000 with Zaborg and Cyber Twin.

      @Kugrox Před 6 lety

      Yeah this is why I based my primary deck around this card, until they released even more op cards. now i run a combo of future fusion and dragons mirror to bring out dragon master knight, blue eyes ultimate dragon, five god dragon, and that 4000/4000 xyz card, all on turn 1. A combo I can pull off regularly. Thing is, in todays games, having all those high attack monsters is fun and impressive and scary and all that, but really, your opponent is gunna have at least9 cards that can kill 99 monsters and remove 2349203 cards from play, all the newestcards can trump anything i can do now lol. but its still fun to bring out 4 4000 attack monstesr turn 1. But against decks that are just too new and powerful for me ot beat I just rely on exodia to beat them, because exodia is cheese af and its the only way i can beat the newer shit since i dont play anymore, my cards are all 10 years old lol.

    Ah, good ol' CyberStein. I remember running that in the old GBA game Eternal Duelist Soul, using Sangan to search it, special-summoning a blue-eyes ultimate, maybe throwing on a Bloody Axe or that light field effect for pointless extra power, combining it with abuse of Numenous Healer (probably misspelled) in case I managed to loose the thing and wanted any chance of bouncing back. This alongside a deck that ran idiocy like Gemini Elf, Neo the Magic Soldier, and 7-Coloured Fish.

    The Cyber Stein deck was top for sure in its era, yet too many people didn't know how to play it the right way. All you needed was one, and then you could search him out with Sangan/Last Will/Mystic Tomato on the turn you were ready to go in. From that point, you could get off game winning combos combined with Metamorphosis, DMOC and Monster Reborn. All of which were not banned in this format. Cyber Twin Dragon and Gatling Dragon were game enders when abused, and the fusion deck had Ryu Senshi/Dark Balter for Metamorphosis combos. Oh, and in case of a longer game, MOF and Tsukuyomi were a thing. Also, Thunder Dragon and Dark Sorcerer were pretty stacked in this deck too. So easy to swarm the board with big hitters while denying the opponent of resources, and then pull off Metamorphosis shenanigans.

    Oh nostalgia. I remember the days of Cyber Stein, when the extra deck was unspoiled territory. Sadly, the GX days were the only time I played competitively. Stein was banned for one, simple reason. It. Was. Everywhere. Every deck ran one, for little more reason than to have that OTK waiting. It made the game a race to do that first 3000 life points of damage, no matter what you were playing. If you couldn't do at least 3000 points of damage quickly, you might as well pack up and go home. That might sound trivial to younger players. But back then, that was a challenge. Board wipes were few and far between. It was the time of the 1-for-1 card. And Card Advantage was THE advantage. It was a format where "Draw. Attack with one monster. End turn." was a Pro Move. No summon. No spell played. Just draw your card, attack with one thing, then end your turn. And that could be the most frustrating move to make for your opponent, who is sitting on his Bottomless Trap hole or Torrential Tribute. And in this format was an upsetting force known as Cyber Stein. Stein made one bad draw into a loss. I saw people pay 4000 life points to negate the summon of a Stein and called it a good move. There are bans and restrictions I don't understand. But Cyber Stein needed to go.

  • @dovesr0478
    @dovesr0478 Před 2 lety

    I still occasionally play Eternal Duelist Soul on GBA just to stomp with Cyber Stein. Megamorph is unfortunately limited in that game, but you can still easily win without it if you keep your BEUD alive. The game is so old that no cards are actually banned, only limited, so you can play pot of greed, delinquent duo, change of heart, etc to your heart's content. It feels like cheating and is a great display of why those cards are banned but it's super fun and nostalgic.

    The nostalgia. I can already remember abusing these cards on my Game Boy Advance game. I never thought about them being used in tournaments till now. Of course it'd get abused. Players eat their own LPs all the time just from Solemn traps, and that's just to disrupt plays. They didn't have the hand traps and counter traps we have today; but even so, many decks could still abuse it.

    You can thank Igor Kharin for the emergency Cyber Stein ban.
    He invented the deck then shared it after using it at UK nationals. It wasn't a threat until Igor came up with his build and the burn side deck.
    From memory I saw the build before he played it at nationals (can't remember if he showed it to me or it was posted in a specific forum) and the top players realized that card had to be banned asap

    Fun video, but I was confused at why you were saying that was the first win for Cyber Stein.
    Back in the day, a friend of mine won Shonen Jump Hamilton (Corey Faibish), and won using Cyber Stein. I double checked the date, and he won in August 2006
    He literally won the final game with Cyber Stein into Cyber Twin + Megamorph

    I remember playing early Yugioh Games and buying every Booster with Cyberstein in it and putting the card with Blue-Eyes Ultimate and/or Cyber End Dragon no matter the Deck.
    Admittedly, back then my strategy come down to "Kill him til he dies" but that is beside the point.

    Yuginono explained how a power bond searcher wouldnt be broken, if you loose your win coindition like here a cyber stein you pretty much lost, but as you mentioned having it on any deck and being able to randomly otk deserves a ban, it would be interesting if they make a new reprint that states that the monster cant use their effect or attack the turn its summoned or something like that

      give it time,
      there is a reason why most recent fusions have some sort of restriction that makes them unable ot be useful for it
      but we still have plenty of fusions generic enough for Stein to be an issue ie: Naturia Exterio

    We just need a more well-thought out forbidden/limited list for Duel Links. I mean, it doesn’t make any sense if you can cyber-stein turn one and summon Ojama King to lock up your opponent’s whole front row, or if you can just fill your deck up with Wall of Disruption and Mirror Wall and just make your opponent too scared to fight back. I mean, once everyone starts doing it, there’s no real fun in playing the game.

    I remember in one of the GBA games I could never beat Kaiba because he always managed to Turn 1 a Cyber-Stein into Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon. Sure it didn't have the piercing damage of Cyber End Dragon, but the game only supported the first 5 TCG sets, so the game was still pretty based around raw attack power for the most part.
