My "be classy" rule - turn off your cell phone when you are socializing with others. Don't take calls during social lunches or visits. Be there for the person you are with.
You are so right, Ms. Elizondo. I think you would love the scene from the show "Designing Women" where and when "Julia Sugarbaker" explains having morals and principles. It in season 1.
In my opinion, one of the main signs of class is how you treat others, especially those of lower status than yourself. A woman who is rude to the wait staff shows a lack of class. So does a woman who treats people above her on the organizational chart well & those below her on the org chart as if they are beneath her notice. I strive to treat everyone with equal kindness & respect. It also shows class & respect to learn people’s names & use them.
"If you're not liking the friends that you're hanging around with, if you feel like the wrong guy is showing up all the time, if you feel like the doors are closing when it comes to career opportunities, might I ask you to look within? Instead of blaming what's out? Look to yourself and ask, "What am I doing to draw this?"...Is there something i can project...You are a magnet... Thank you for those words.
May I add a ninth? Be a good listener. It has been my experience that people have lost the ability to really listen to each other. Close your mouth, and open your ears. To me, being classy also means being able to listen with compassion and empathy, which ties into your point about knowledge. When you employ a robust listening aptitude, there is no end to what you can learn.
Very true! It seems now days people aren't listening to what you are saying, they're already thinking of a reply before you even finish, you can see it on their face.

You have addressed one of my concerns. A woman can have a perfect posture, be beautifully dressed and coiffed, but if her language is vulgar none of the rest matters.
I was raised to be exactly the type of woman that you describe. The only thing that I would like to add to this is to be sure to not judge others harshly by these rules we never know what a person is going through. A Latitude Adjustment ~ I have lived with Chronic Pain for approx. 20 years now, my purple crutches have been my legs for 6+ years, so I think I understand a little of what you are going through. I heard what Dominique said, I also read your comments, and while I hear Dominique saying our looks make an impression, I think you have to take all of her points as a whole. While your clothing would not be your first choice, I am betting it is clean, pressed and without wrinkles. You mentioned that while it is difficult, you have your nails painted. You said you put a smile on your face daily (And isn't that a struggle some days?) you are the epitome of class. I would hope that Dominique and others allow for the fact that class is also tailored to the individual, and that we cannot all come at it from the same vantage point. You continue to do the best you can, I wish you pain free days.
My husband of 42 years said something profoundly beautiful about me, to me, earlier today. This video piggybacks on it and actually made me weep. As a child, I admired class, wanted it, and made it my goal. I continue to work on being all the beautiful things humans are capable of; however, I sometimes feel alone, one of the last surviving dinosaurs walking towards extinction. He reminded me that it is noticed, appreciated, and loved. You have made me realize I am not alone, but in good company. Thank you...
I am 73 and have always felt that I was a gracious, happy and classy woman then, my husband died, I let things go, had some medical issues and am in a state of transition. I am so grateful for this video as it has hit home and made me aware that I need to make some major changes to become all of the woman that I have been and need to be again. Sarah, your comment hit home here. Lost my son after a 7 month battle with cancer only to have my 97 yr old mother break a hip. The stress of being back in hospitals has been overwhelming and I have lost "me". My health issues & a recent wake up call for my DH has made me see the light Take care of yourself. I have one thing to add to your list on being classy: don't interrupt people and let them finish their sentence. That is so annoying to me when I'm constantly interrupted and never allowed to finish my sentence or thought. God have us two ears to listen more and only one mouth to speak! :)
So true! My twenty-year-old granddaughter confided in me recently that she had so few friends; I wanted to tell her that friendship is not just talking AT somebody, but also stopping to LISTEN to what they have to say! Constantly interrupting people indicates to them that YOU are all that is important, and that you have no interest in the person with whom you are supposedly conversing!
Doing the very best you can with the resources available to you while also being the very best person you can be, regardless of your size, your personal situation or the balance in your bank account, is what classy is to me. Very little else really matters.

Well said! I think I have also learned over the years that another classy move is to not over speak, over state something just to be heard. A lot of times it serves us well to listen more, nod in acknowledgment, keep eye contact of course and speak carefully, wait a beat or two, don’t be too excited to contribute. Blurting out and bluntness are definitely not classy moves.

More class and sophistication are absolutely needed in today’s society. I am a real estate broker and I am running a team of agents. The one thing I strongly teach is personal appearance and conversation to new recruits. Since I am in the New York metropolitan area, leggings and jeans are not allowed on my team. Personal grooming is vital!

Thank you for the very poignant suggestions. Two years ago I decided to give up swearing, as I realized it had begun to creep into my dialogue way more than I cared for. It really changed my life and made me much more aware of the content of my conversation. I sometimes think people go to the four-letter words too quickly because they really don’t have anything of value to say. NOT classy! Try it, gals. You’ll likeit!
I have never been comfortable with that. I think because I knew a few adults who did that when I was young, and it made a bad impression on me. I think the swearing thing starts young. I don't think someone starts doing that as an adult. Also, if you hang around other people who do, you can unconsciously, pick it up. Then it can become a bad habit. I think if you go to college, enter the workforce, you realize, that it is not the professional thing to do. You want to be seen as intelligent and taken seriously-- bad language doesn't help that. Also, when you have children, people reconsider their language. They will parrot you! And, in the most inopportune times. Lol
I absolutely agree! I don't swear & the women I work with, not the men, but the women will say some curse word & then apologize to me by name! I have never said anything to them about swearing, but I just don't and people notice & respect you for it.
My Italian grandmother told me one thing when I was a teenager that has stuck with me my entire life and I still hold to what she taught me. "When you walk out your door, how you dress and conduct yourself in public is a direct reflection of the level of respect you have for those around you"
My grandma's advice was "A lady never leaves the house without lipstick and earrings." Maybe old fashioned but it was the thing that stuck with me. Lol.
Disconnected Wife, I would like to add to your grandmother's statement and it is one that I share with others who've asked why should I put for the effort in presenting myself to the world. "How you present yourself to the world, is an indicator of how you feel about yourself and the level of respect that you have for yourself and that will set the precedence of the treatment and respect that you will expect to receive. If you present yourself looking polished and put together, you will exude confidence, which is an energy that other's will notice. If you put zero to minimal effort into your appearance and how you present yourself to the world, that too will be perceived as the level of effort you will put into all areas of your life, and you may out on opportunities that you are passionate about or are qualified to apply for, but are overlooked soley based on your self-presentation.. You only get one shot to make a good impression; make it the right one, the first time. Life is not a dress rehearsal! You are the lead in the movie of "You", for which there is no understudy!" I can appreciate the videos that Dominique has created as a pathway for those who need and are searching for makeup tips, hair-style ideas, or clothing styles. It's something that Dominique enjoys doing, it appears that many others have enjoyed following her video logs (given her 576 thousand followers) and to always keep in mind that one's style is subjective and not applicable to everyone.

Dominique what a lovely video. Thanks for sharing this. It's definitely a topic that completely breaks my heart. My favorite memories of my grandfather are of him tipping his hat to women and of him standing whenever a woman entered the room. I raised three sons who thankfully learned well to seek out women who behave with class. I'm trying to instill class into my nine beautiful grandchildren. When they sleep over, we eat on china! I want them to know what it is to appreciate and care for expensive things. And to know that they're worth being respected enough that others value them, etc. Cheers for this wonderful message!

You are so right about us fixing ourselves on the inside instead of blaming others for our shortcomings. Be aware of yourself and be willing to step back and take a good hard look at the people around us and we may need to make some adjustments. I personally put God first and he helps me in all situations.

From a mother and educator of high school students, I want to thank you for your insight. I found myself shaking my head in agreement as you spoke. I don't know how many times I have given this same speech to so many students, especially during prom season and upon graduations. Many young ladies do not understand the importance of being classy and how it will make a positive impact in their lives. Sadly, they have never been exposed to positive behavior, thus their behavior emulates what they have seen and been taught. As a mother of a son, we also need to teach our young men how to be gentlemen (another video)! Again, thank you for being a positive role model to young women, and reminding us ALL what classy really is!
Karen Burke I too raised sons to be gentleman. But it seems that the girls nowadays do not appreciate guys with good manners who show them respect. It seems they would rather be with the vulgar boys that end up treating them badly. Sad.
Spot on. Like it or not, this is social reality. How we look, starting with good posture; our manners, most noticeably table manners; and our command of the English language are how we are reviewed and whether or not we get a second chance, have a door of opportunity open, and catch the eye of that certain someone.

I totally get that! But use the moments you have to yourself for yourself! I started making my bed everyday, doing a skin care routine and light ( very light ) excersise and I feel so much better! I also pamper my hair with henna and indigo once a month. Find what you like and don't feel guilty for treating yourself...And when you feel well, your daughter and everyone around you will feel better also. Trust me, kids love it when Mommy is happy! I'm 19 and really want to be a classy lady rather than "vulgar" like I see in the people around me... I just wish that there was a video that showed what it looks like and not just talked about it. Or like a school near me that could pin-point what I'm doing wrong.
You may be just 19, but you are wise beyond your years. Young people need mentors to emulate how to do things in life correctly. ONE thing you can do is be mindful of what you watch. As you watch, you become changed into what you see. Garbage in, garbage out is a simple way to say that. Watch this woman's videos, you will see how she carries herself, and you will begin to see how "it's done". Choose the people you spend time with wisely. Humans were designed to model. I'm so glad to watch a video like this. I'm Asian and we are taught self control, honour and respect for one's self, which projects forth good upbringing. We automatically treat others the way we treat ourselves. Good manners and etiquette is everything! I’m not sure how people took this video so wrong. It’s about a total package and appearance is actually very important. It shows that you value yourself. People initially are drawn to someone from the presentation and are then more willing or not to get to know the individual. She discusses the inside part very well.
Because of their own frustrations and feeling not good about themselfes ,they project it like this video as a judgment not as am advice. Possitive people will hear the advice ,negative people will feel it as a judgment...
I believe a classy woman is one who gives herself grace. So often we are our own worst critic. We should explore our inner passions and pursuits.. things that make us feel confident and embolden us to try new things and take risks while staying true to our inner character and core values. Very well said. I’m almost 29 and I’m constantly struggling with releasing that inner critic and allowing myself to be open to new opportunities while letting go of my past. Sometimes I’m afraid to pursue things I really want out of fear that some sort of past “demon” will come back to haunt and just take it all away. It’s interesting, I think I have a lot of these “classy” characteristics but a part of me feels undeserving of certain things or opportunities... like I’ll think “Oh, that’s amazing, but that’s for that person..not me.” If that makes sense. I definitely need to put in the work to gradually overcome this.

Dear Education First, you hit the nail on the head!! People are not genuinely interested in others these days. Its all about "self". Thus- no genuine interest in anyone else. I see it often. People don't make eye contact when speaking. They are looking around, turning their head elsewhere. Or the most annoying and says "go away" is their head down scrolling their cell phones. Definitely no class. No genuine interest or caring. So sad.

I love that you mentioned thank you notes. I was taught to write them, I taught my daughter to write them. As a matter of fact, when it came to presents, we couldn’t use or play with it until the note was written. The thing about a thank you note is, you can’t go wrong. When in doubt, write one anyway. No one will criticize you for writing one.
So true, understated simple basics such as writing a thank you card or note is a sign of class. It not only shows appreciation but the receiver can keep the item and revisit it for a little bit of comfort. Traditional values made society a much better world to live in.
As a woman, nearly 50, I am choosing to embrace my place as an older woman and taking the role of encourager. I think classy women build others up. In conversation, they take interest in others and then find something positive to complement, especially in younger women.

I am so glad you didn't keep this video to the "superficial" stuff (as in "on the surface"), but added that knowledge, reasoning and logic Are classy! I would add that knowledge isn't only classy and useful in a conversation, but it makes us true and fulfilled human beings!
When I think of a woman with class, I automatically think of my grandmother. She was the epitome of elegance and class in every way. She was someone I always looked up to and admired for so many reasons.....And on top of all that, she was the sweetest, most loving grandmother in the whole world (to me, anyway!). I was very blessed to have her in my life as long as I did. She died four years ago, on Dec. 11th, at the age of 96. I miss her so much. ♥

I am a Chinese and my dad brought me up with so many rules, such as slow eating, no noise when eating, do not cross you leg in front of older generations,good posture, work hard, study hard and be humble . Unfortunately he passed away when I was 12. He was always proud of me being the top student in my class and in a school. His tips really helped me in my whole life. Even now as 53, I still use his rules to help our son to grow up. When I was 32, I was living in China, I decided to learn English--self taught. The word got me to know that there is tense difference in English was left😃. At the time, I knew left as left side, left hand but did not know left is past tense of leave. I took my opportunity to be promoted so many times through my career in China and in UK and I am pleased to say as age 53, I will get my MSc degree in 2 months time if I pass my dissertation. So many ways to be classy. We are living in a vast, variety world, be yourself and be a useful person to this society, be responsible, and do not leave any regret of your life. I total agree with you Dominique , do not complain about missing opportunities or because of your colour, look yourself what you can give, what you can offer to others and the society as a whole. As a foreigner in uk, I have heard so many other nationalities saying job promotion was not fair but I, myself proved it is fair because I have been promoted a couple of times within 17 years working in UK as a foreigner. It dose not matter where You come from and I have yellow skin but not white😀. It is your behaviour and you contribution to the job to the society to the country matters.

As for the inside part, I always « breathe » and focus on the person I really am, before going out into the world. Staying connected to my true self - that I learn to love more everyday- is my key to being classy « inside » and people notice it « outside ».
People have always find me a classy woman. I never understood why, but now I see that few people can have a decent conversation with manners, say thank you or sorry, have manners at the table, dress properly even for small things. For me all this was normal because my mother tought me well, and now I see why others consider me classy, but you know, It should be something that everything hhing should do because these are basic manners!
I do online dating. I've been at it for years now trying to find the right one. I refuse to compromise on what I feel is important in a relationship. One thing that I make sure any guy knows right up front is that intimacy won't happen immediately with me. I need to get to know you, we need to be friends first. Always. So I'll keep it classy in the meantime, because I know that the right one for me is out there and he agrees with my views on this important subject!
It may sound "old fashioned" but waiting until marriage is the best thing to do. A virtuous woman will attract an honorable man or a gentleman. Birds of a feather flock together. I don't know if you're a believer or not, but that's my best advice IMHO. Best wishes to you!

I am a Grandma now but when I was a young girl my mom would have us write a thank you note immediately after receiving a gift, she would say do not eat it, use it or spend it before you write a thank you note! My daughter is now 30 and I have passed on this to her! My friends have often have complimented me "about her raising"..... after receiving notes from her! Merry Christmas !!
My mom was the same--we were always sending notes. I tried to instill this in my stepsons when they lived with my husband and me, but they and their wives aren't very good about this. Too sad, and I'm especially disappointed in the girls for not doing this.
I am very happy to come across this video. Although I was born in 80s, there is an “old” soul living inside of me. I have always admired 30-50s women’s glamour and class. The way they carried themselves; Proper English they spoke; Classy outfits they wore. The list can go on. This video serves as a reminder that being classy is timeless. It might be a rarity nowadays but it never goes out of style.

May I add that it is classy to not be slovenly in public places by leaving mess and litter. I used to clean in a big marina and noticed that people can have the clothes, the boat, the money but if they then throw litter, or don't flush the toilet or leave hair or tissues covered in make-up on the sink etc., it is difficult to respect those people.
I completely agree with you my dear, I worked in a very expensive spa and part of my job involved cleaning the bathrooms...the women bathroom was always worse than the men's. I think being classy is the reflection of how well you were raised by your parents. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at the marina, I completely understand.
I just adore you and I think that is why I subscribe to your channel. I agree 100% with everything you said. My grandmother was classy, my mom was classy and I was raised to be classy. I really believe that because I was raised to be classy it has opened so many doors for me. I am so grateful to my parents for showing me the way and I also love to be around classy people. Dear Dominique thank you for your wonderful tips, they give me the motivation to be the best version of myself. I just remembered few days ago that when I was in High School I received an award for being the most feminine girl in my class, most of the boys voted for me and they gave me a beautiful flower arrangement and a little certificate. I was so thankful for their generosity but also so disappointed when most of the girls including my "friends" reacted with so much jealousy (some even tried to steal my flowers). Since that day I realized that men with values appreciate classy women and women who are not connected to their real feminine power can be so mean! Thank you for being so kind and beautiful. Like your suggestions about keeping it classy. These are simple step to follow. For me, I need to work on my posture so I will definitely keep this in mind. With regards to behavior, I think it is also so important to be kind to people. My mother would say, “Kindness is free” It is true and I think when we make others feel good, we feel good too. I wish I could post a photo of me from a few years ago and a photo of me now. 3 years ago I had no knowledge of anything, I was a drug attict, and even though I held down a job and kept composure I did not take care of myself. I stopped doing my drug of choice and become obsessed with skin care and makeup. I have been studying and researching it for 3 years. I haven't gone to school for it yet but I plan on it next year. My outer appearance has improved immensely! I'm still working on my inner, thank you for this video. I am going to take your advice and make some BIG changes!

I especially agree that they way we carry ourselves, enter a room, say please and thank you and use other manners and etiquette are the keys to being a successful woman who leads in our homes, careers and lives. I agree with you completely! I've been trying to figure out a way to get the education system in this country to add a couple of well needed subjects to school, mainly KINDNESS 101. Now that you mentioned how this should be required information in school, that would be part of curriculum...WOW!
As a person in my late 20s please know there are still women out there that are looking for this information. Not all of us had ‘classy’ role models. So thank you. I have reached great success in my short adulthood using these principles. What I do to keep it classy? Remember that a beautiful smile doesn’t hide an ugly soul, be humble, present your best self, and remember your manners! It goes a long way.

In the UK we used to be sticklers for good manners, but that doesn’t seem so prevalent these days which is a great shame. I especially loathe bad table manners, particularly chewing with open mouths, stretching across others, leaving the table before everyone has finished or not thanking the cook! Well done Dominique for highlighting this important area of our make up. We can be as poor as church mice but still be a lady!
It pains me now to visit Britain to see how it has changed...my stepfather was British and he and my American mother lived there many years. They lived a modest but very civilized life...they made an effort to eat on their nice china, use their stemware, prepare and serve lovely food, dress informally but with cachet for the table..tweeds jacket for my stepfather (he prided himself on how many decades he had HAD his tweeds..having them rewoven when necessary)my mother in wool skirt , sweaters...lovely table manners, no unpleasant topics at table etc. . They inspired me and I miss them. My adult daughter has inherited those fine things that were her grandparents after I used them. Sadly she has them packed away in boxes. She says those stuffy things make her friends uncomfortable and she is a high ranking officer in the US military , a very traditional career. Sadly her friends are more at home with cookouts. SHe told me when she was in officers school that the curriculum included a course in table manners and she was surprised that so many did not know how to use a traditional place setting..something she grew up with from toddler age. Sadly the idea has taken root everywhere that burgers and beer or fish and chips are democratic and anything more civilized is "putting on airs". A sad state of affairs in many quarters of the USA and Britain.I miss how we used to be..both sides of "the pond".
So true, everything you said shows class. I have been living in Spain for a few years, and it didn't take me long to notice how the Spanish ladies dress, very neutral colours, matching bag and shoes, and if a splash of colour, then a red bag or red shoes. Italians, French, and Spanish just have such a simplistic style. Also being proud of yourself and feeling good about who you are, and believing in yourself, just speaks volumes and gets you noticed. Alot of women do not thing well of themselves enough. And as well as all you've mentioned, being kind to others, being selfless and having a caring nature is also very classy in a lady, a quality that is not seen as much these days in our busy lives. There is also an epidemic of laziness when it comes to work and personal debt...many cultures prioritize lifestyle and social status over work and family. I know too many people who are all about their appearance and luxurious vacations, yet don’t spend much time with their families, lack a strong work ethic, and are in debt. It’s not all about the exterior...although this does not mean hard working women can’t have it all and take a few hair and makeup tips
I appreciate this. As a teen, I didn't have money to spend on clothes, but I practiced ballet on my own in my bedroom, developed good posture from this, and wore my hand-me-downs with as much style as possible. Also, I was very modest in my dress. I received no invitations to the prom, no dates, and a lot of hate from other women socially and in my career life. So, I became more coarse over the years and hid my true self. This will change now. I'm old enough to understand that I can't let my confidence be shattered by others. Thank you. I wish I'd had access to mentors like you growing up!
My "be classy" rule - turn off your cell phone when you are socializing with others. Don't take calls during social lunches or visits. Be there for the person you are with.

In my opinion, one of the main signs of class is how you treat others, especially those of lower status than yourself. A woman who is rude to the wait staff shows a lack of class. So does a woman who treats people above her on the organizational chart well & those below her on the org chart as if they are beneath her notice. I strive to treat everyone with equal kindness & respect. It also shows class & respect to learn people’s names & use them.

May I add a ninth? Be a good listener. It has been my experience that people have lost the ability to really listen to each other. Close your mouth, and open your ears. To me, being classy also means being able to listen with compassion and empathy, which ties into your point about knowledge. When you employ a robust listening aptitude, there is no end to what you can learn.

I heard what Dominique said, I also read your comments, and while I hear Dominique saying our looks make an impression, I think you have to take all of her points as a whole. While your clothing would not be your first choice, I am betting it is clean, pressed and without wrinkles. You mentioned that while it is difficult, you have your nails painted. You said you put a smile on your face daily (And isn't that a struggle some days?) you are the epitome of class.
I would hope that Dominique and others allow for the fact that class is also tailored to the individual, and that we cannot all come at it from the same vantage point.

A lot of times it serves us well to listen more, nod in acknowledgment, keep eye contact of course and speak carefully, wait a beat or two, don’t be too excited to contribute. More class and sophistication are absolutely needed in today’s society. I am a real estate broker and I am running a team of agents. The one thing I strongly teach is personal appearance and conversation to new recruits. Since I am in the New York metropolitan area, leggings and jeans are not allowed on my team.

I have never been comfortable with that. I think because I knew a few adults who did that when I was young, and it made a bad impression on me.
I think the swearing thing starts young. I don't think someone starts doing that as an adult. Also, if you hang around other people who do, you can unconsciously, pick it up. Then it can become a bad habit.
I think if you go to college, enter the workforce, you realize, that it is not the professional thing to do. You want to be seen as intelligent and taken seriously-- bad language doesn't help that. Also, when you have children, people reconsider their language. They will parrot you! And, in the most inopportune times. Lol
I absolutely agree! I don't swear & the women I work with, not the men, but the women will say some curse word & then apologize to me by name! I have never said anything to them about swearing, but I just don't and people notice & respect you for it.
My Italian grandmother told me one thing when I was a teenager that has stuck with me my entire life and I still hold to what she taught me. "When you walk out your door, how you dress and conduct yourself in public is a direct reflection of the level of respect you have for those around you"

If you present yourself looking polished and put together, you will exude confidence, which is an energy that other's will notice. If you put zero to minimal effort into your appearance and how you present yourself to the world, that too will be perceived as the level of effort you will put into all areas of your life, and you may out on opportunities that you are passionate about or are qualified to apply for, but are overlooked soley based on your self-presentation.. You only get one shot to make a good impression; make it the right one, the first time. Life is not a dress rehearsal! You are the lead in the movie of "You", for which there is no understudy!"

Dominique what a lovely video. Thanks for sharing this. It's definitely a topic that completely breaks my heart. My favorite memories of my grandfather are of him tipping his hat to women and of him standing whenever a woman entered the room. I raised three sons who thankfully learned well to seek out women who behave with class. I'm trying to instill class into my nine beautiful grandchildren. When they sleep over, we eat on china! From a mother and educator of high school students, I want to thank you for your insight. I found myself shaking my head in agreement as you spoke. I don't know how many times I have given this same speech to so many students, especially during prom season and upon graduations. Many young ladies do not understand the importance of being classy and how it will make a positive impact in their lives. Sadly, they have never been exposed to positive behavior, thus their behavior emulates what they have seen and been taught. As a mother of a son, we also need to teach our young men how to be gentlemen (another video)! Again, thank you for being a positive role model to young women, and reminding us ALL what classy really is!

Usually, I’m quick to respond to comments and chime in, but my husband and I are on vacation, so I’m making a conscious effort to back off of work a bit. I had a feeling this video would resonate and possibly stir it up, and I’m happy it has sparked dialogue, thought and reflection. I totally get that! But use the moments you have to yourself for yourself! I started making my bed everyday, doing a skin care routine and light ( very light ) excersise and I feel so much better! I also pamper my hair with henna and indigo once a month. Find what you like and don't feel guilty for treating yourself...And when you feel well, your daughter and everyone around you will feel better also. Trust me, kids love it when Mommy is happy! I'm 19 and really want to be a classy lady rather than "vulgar" like I see in the people around me... I just wish that there was a video that showed what it looks like and not just talked about it. Or like a school near me that could pin-point what I'm doing wrong.
You may be just 19, but you are wise beyond your years. Young people need mentors to emulate how to do things in life correctly. ONE thing you can do is be mindful of what you watch. As you watch, you become changed into what you see. Garbage in, garbage out is a simple way to say that. Watch this woman's videos, you will see how she carries herself, and you will begin to see how "it's done". Choose the people you spend time with wisely. Humans were designed to model. There is a lot to the old saying, "monkey see, monkey do" we do that without thinking about it. But you are smart enough to ask the right questions. I wish you well young lady!!

I’m not sure how people took this video so wrong. It’s about a total package and appearance is actually very important. It shows that you value yourself. I believe a classy woman is one who gives herself grace. So often we are our own worst critic. We should explore our inner passions and pursuits.. things that make us feel confident and embolden us to try new things and take risks while staying true to our inner character and core values. Just wanted to share my take in the dialogue.
Very well said. I’m almost 29 and I’m constantly struggling with releasing that inner critic and allowing myself to be open to new opportunities while letting go of my past. Sometimes I’m afraid to pursue things I really want out of fear that some sort of past “demon” will come back to haunt and just take it all away. It’s interesting, I think I have a lot of these “classy” characteristics but a part of me feels undeserving of certain things or opportunities... like I’ll think “Oh, that’s amazing, but that’s for that person..not me.” If that makes sense. I definitely need to put in the work to gradually overcome this.

Dear Education First, you hit the nail on the head!! People are not genuinely interested in others these days. Its all about "self". Thus- no genuine interest in anyone else. I see it often. People don't make eye contact when speaking. They are looking around, turning their head elsewhere. Or the most annoying and says "go away" is their head down scrolling their cell phones. Definitely no class. No genuine interest or caring. So sad.

I love that you mentioned thank you notes. I was taught to write them, I taught my daughter to write them. As a matter of fact, when it came to presents, we couldn’t use or play with it until the note was written. The thing about a thank you note is, you can’t go wrong. When in doubt, write one anyway. No one will criticize you for writing one.

As a woman, nearly 50, I am choosing to embrace my place as an older woman and taking the role of encourager. I think classy women build others up. In conversation, they take interest in others and then find something positive to complement, especially in younger women.

When I think of a woman with class, I automatically think of my grandmother. She was the epitome of elegance and class in every way. She was someone I always looked up to and admired for so many reasons.....And on top of all that, she was the sweetest, most loving grandmother in the whole world (to me, anyway!). I was very blessed to have her in my life as long as I did. She died four years ago, on Dec. 11th, at the age of 96. I miss her so much. ♥
Many of us had grandmothers like that..they live on in us.
I had a grandmother like that too. She passed away at 94. What a blessing and legacy they leave.

I am a Chinese and my dad brought me up with so many rules, such as slow eating, no noise when eating, do not cross you leg in front of older generations,good posture, work hard, study hard and be humble . Unfortunately he passed away when I was 12. He was always proud of me being the top student in my class and in a school. His tips really helped me in my whole life. Even now as 53, I still use his rules to help our son to grow up. When I was 32, I was living in China, I decided to learn English--self taught. The word got me to know that there is tense difference in English was left😃. At the time, I knew left as left side, left hand but did not know left is past tense of leave. I took my opportunity to be promoted so many times through my career in China and in UK and I am pleased to say as age 53, I will get my MSc degree in 2 months time if I pass my dissertation. So many ways to be classy. We are living in a vast, variety world, be yourself and be a useful person to this society, be responsible, and do not leave any regret of your life. I total agree with you Dominique , do not complain about missing opportunities or because of your colour, look yourself what you can give, what you can offer to others and the society as a whole. As a foreigner in uk, I have heard so many other nationalities saying job promotion was not fair but I, myself proved it is fair because I have been promoted a couple of times within 17 years working in UK as a foreigner. It dose not matter where You come from and I have yellow skin but not white😀. It is your behaviour and you contribution to the job to the society to the country matters.

As for the inside part, I always « breathe » and focus on the person I really am, before going out into the world. Staying connected to my true self - that I learn to love more everyday- is my key to being classy « inside » and people notice it « outside ».
People have always find me a classy woman. I never understood why, but now I see that few people can have a decent conversation with manners, say thank you or sorry, have manners at the table, dress properly even for small things.
For me all this was normal because my mother tought me well, and now I see why others consider me classy, but you know, It should be something that everything hhing should do because these are basic manners!

I do online dating. I've been at it for years now trying to find the right one. I refuse to compromise on what I feel is important in a relationship. One thing that I make sure any guy knows right up front is that intimacy won't happen immediately with me. I need to get to know you, we need to be friends first. Always. So I'll keep it classy in the meantime, because I know that the right one for me is out there and he agrees with my views on this important subject!
It may sound "old fashioned" but waiting until marriage is the best thing to do. A virtuous woman will attract an honorable man or a gentleman. Birds of a feather flock together. I don't know if you're a believer or not, but that's my best advice IMHO. Best wishes to you!

I am a Grandma now but when I was a young girl my mom would have us write a thank you note immediately after receiving a gift, she would say do not eat it, use it or spend it before you write a thank you note! My daughter is now 30 and I have passed on this to her! My friends have often have complimented me "about her raising"..... after receiving notes from her! Merry Christmas !!
My mom was the same--we were always sending notes. I tried to instill this in my stepsons when they lived with my husband and me, but they and their wives aren't very good about this. Too sad, and I'm especially disappointed in the girls for not doing this.
My Grandma always made me do that and as a child I used to hate it. I thought it was so tedious lol but now I understand it’s significant
I am very happy to come across this video. Although I was born in 80s, there is an “old” soul living inside of me. I have always admired 30-50s women’s glamour and class. The way they carried themselves; Proper English they spoke; Classy outfits they wore. The list can go on. This video serves as a reminder that being classy is timeless. It might be a rarity nowadays but it never goes out of style.

May I add that it is classy to not be slovenly in public places by leaving mess and litter. I used to clean in a big marina and noticed that people can have the clothes, the boat, the money but if they then throw litter, or don't flush the toilet or leave hair or tissues covered in make-up on the sink etc., it is difficult to respect those people.

I completely agree with you my dear, I worked in a very expensive spa and part of my job involved cleaning the bathrooms...the women bathroom was always worse than the men's. Dear Dominique thank you for your wonderful tips, they give me the motivation to be the best version of myself. I just remembered few days ago that when I was in High School I received an award for being the most feminine girl in my class, most of the boys voted for me and they gave me a beautiful flower arrangement and a little certificate. I was so thankful for their generosity but also so disappointed when most of the girls including my "friends" reacted with so much jealousy (some even tried to steal my flowers). Since that day I realized that men with values appreciate classy women and women who are not connected to their real feminine power can be so mean! Thank you for being so kind and beautiful. Like your suggestions about keeping it classy. These are simple step to follow. For me, I need to work on my posture so I will definitely keep this in mind. With regards to behavior, I think it is also so important to be kind to people. My mother would say, “Kindness is free” It is true and I think when we make others feel good, we feel good too. I wish I could post a photo of me from a few years ago and a photo of me now. 3 years ago I had no knowledge of anything, I was a drug attict, and even though I held down a job and kept composure I did not take care of myself. I stopped doing my drug of choice and become obsessed with skin care and makeup. I have been studying and researching it for 3 years. I haven't gone to school for it yet but I plan on it next year. My outer appearance has improved immensely! I'm still working on my inner, thank you for this video. I am going to take your advice and make some BIG changes!

I agree with you completely! I've been trying to figure out a way to get the education system in this country to add a couple of well needed subjects to school, mainly KINDNESS 101. Now that you mentioned how this should be required information in school, that would be part of curriculum...WOW!
School should be for learning math, science English, etc. Parents should be teaching class, manners and grace at home.
As a person in my late 20s please know there are still women out there that are looking for this information. Not all of us had ‘classy’ role models. So thank you. I have reached great success in my short adulthood using these principles. What I do to keep it classy? Remember that a beautiful smile doesn’t hide an ugly soul, be humble, present your best self, and remember your manners! It goes a long way.

In the UK we used to be sticklers for good manners, but that doesn’t seem so prevalent these days which is a great shame. I especially loathe bad table manners, particularly chewing with open mouths, stretching across others, leaving the table before everyone has finished or not thanking the cook! Well done Dominique for highlighting this important area of our make up. We can be as poor as church mice but still be a lady!
It pains me now to visit Britain to see how it has changed...my stepfather was British and he and my American mother lived there many years. They lived a modest but very civilized life...they made an effort to eat on their nice china, use their stemware, prepare and serve lovely food, dress informally but with cachet for the table..tweeds jacket for my stepfather (he prided himself on how many decades he had HAD his tweeds..having them rewoven when necessary)my mother in wool skirt , sweaters...lovely table manners, no unpleasant topics at table etc. . They inspired me and I miss them. My adult daughter has inherited those fine things that were her grandparents after I used them. Sadly she has them packed away in boxes. She says those stuffy things make her friends uncomfortable and she is a high ranking officer in the US military , a very traditional career. Sadly her friends are more at home with cookouts. SHe told me when she was in officers school that the curriculum included a course in table manners and she was surprised that so many did not know how to use a traditional place setting..something she grew up with from toddler age. Sadly the idea has taken root everywhere that burgers and beer or fish and chips are democratic and anything more civilized is "putting on airs". A sad state of affairs in many quarters of the USA and Britain.I miss how we used to be..both sides of "the pond".

So true, everything you said shows class. I have been living in Spain for a few years, and it didn't take me long to notice how the Spanish ladies dress, very neutral colours, matching bag and shoes, and if a splash of colour, then a red bag or red shoes. Italians, French, and Spanish just have such a simplistic style. Also being proud of yourself and feeling good about who you are, and believing in yourself, just speaks volumes and gets you noticed. Alot of women do not thing well of themselves enough. And as well as all you've mentioned, being kind to others, being selfless and having a caring nature is also very classy in a lady, a quality that is not seen as much these days in our busy lives. Beverly connected them well, I thought. If you are feeling good and confident, you don't need to scream with your clothes. It's not just the color, but the over-all look and how you put colors together is part of that.
There is also an epidemic of laziness when it comes to work and personal debt...many cultures prioritize lifestyle and social status over work and family. I know too many people who are all about their appearance and luxurious vacations, yet don’t spend much time with their families, lack a strong work ethic, and are in debt. It’s not all about the exterior...although this does not mean hard working women can’t have it all and take a few hair and makeup tips

As a teen, I didn't have money to spend on clothes, but I practiced ballet on my own in my bedroom, developed good posture from this, and wore my hand-me-downs with as much style as possible. Also, I was very modest in my dress. I received no invitations to the prom, no dates, and a lot of hate from other women socially and in my career life. So, I became more coarse over the years and hid my true self. This will change now. I'm old enough to understand that I can't let my confidence be shattered by others. Thank you.
