It is 3:34 or 3:35 am; he’s trying to write a song but is experiencing writer’s block. In the days of actual clocks, it was customary after the half hour mark to call the time as “20 ‘til” the next hour rather than 40 after current one. Chicago is awesome! Thanks.
oh wow i see 🙌🙌❤❤
@@stillmrdoge It's about being super high on coke at 25 minutes to 4am...
@@drumzRfun1 The song writer has said its about writer's block in several interviews.
It’s about doing Acid! Fool😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It’s about doing acid! 🤷🏻♂️😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Not all are trumpets, One trumpet, one saxophone, one trombone. Terry is rated as one of the best guitarist. Terry passed away at 31 years old in 1978 accidental gunshot.
yeah the trumpet was a little louder than the others
Don’t forget the flute, alternate to sax…
Yes, Hendrix once famously said that Terry Kath, the guitarist for the band Chicago, was a better guitar player than him. Hendrix made a comment after seeing Chicago perform in 1969. He was reportedly so impressed by Kath's playing that he immediately went backstage to meet him.
The thing about the great music of the 60s & 70s is that there is so little great live performance footage.
Chicago is a great band with members that are still touring.
The guitar solo here.....awesome.
Great reaction.
😊✌🏼💙
man i really enjoyed this one, do you have a favorite song by them?
I saw Chicago in concert in 1971 in Portland Oregon. I was six months pregnant with my son. He plays guitar 🎸 now 👵🏼💙
oh wow awwww 💕💕🙌🙌
Since you asked... "I'm A Man", "Make Me Smile", "Colour My World", "Free", "Lowdown", "Saturday in the Park", "Feelin' Stronger Every Day", "Fancy Colours". These are all from Phase I Chicago. When Terry Kath died the band's sound changed and so Phase I ended. Phase II is a softer sound.
Robert Lamm, who wrote the song, is the keyboard player.
Yep. Lamm thought the song was more suited for Peter to sing.
You have now witnessed what is widely regarded as one of the greatest live guitar solos of all time. Terry Kath was a genius and taken from us way too soon. RIP guitar master.🎸🔥
awww rest easy 💔💔
Terry Kath is so fun to watch during that solo. He looks like one of the Muppets with his hair in his face and rocking that guitar but not moving from that spot.
lmao true but he killed it fs
Hendrix had the greatest respect for this guitar player Terry Kath as well many others . He was amazing ! Terry was also a very soulful singer you should listen to him .
we played this in pep band back in the day. It was so fun to play! We had tubas AND a bass guitar!
Me too. I began playing drums in 3rd grade in 1970. Played with the stage, concert, and marching bands up through high school. Chicago got played a lot. 25 or 6 to 4 was certainly one of my favorites.
In the early days, Chicago opened for Jimi Hendrix. After the first or second show, Jimi went to see Bobby Lamm (piano) and asked “WHO IS THIS GUY? He’s better than ME!” His name is Terry Kath. And he did EVERYTHING Jimi did - WITHOUT USING electronics!
Well almost. Terry did use a wah-wah. Not much electronics, but some.
@@hammathguy3995 You beat me by two days. I was reading the post as Terry Kath switched on his wah wah. Boing! Sorry I was late.
oh wow
@@stillmrdoge NO..
Wah 😁
WELCOME TO OUR ERA, YOUNG FELLA. NOTHING LIKE IT IN HISTORY. GREAT TIME TO BE ALIVE.
I’m in awe of Terrys solo no matter how many times I see or hear it.
Amazing indeed ♥️
I read they were up all night, partying, in the hotel room and one guy asked what time it was. That was the answer and he morphed it into a song. Also, the story is Hendrix was asked "How does it feel to be the best guitarist in the world?" Jimi answered "I don't know. Ask that guy from Chicago."
Terry Kath....all that needs to be said. RIP.
"Beginnings" from their Chicago Transit Authority album
Awesome, back to when they made real music. If you like horn sections try Blood Sweat & Tears to get your fix.
So the story for this songs like this. They were recording a new album and needed one more song because they were going in to record in the morning. This song is Robert Lamm sitting around trying to write a song and couldn't come up with anything so he just started writing down what he was doing at that time and when he looked at the clock it was 25 or 26 minutes to 4 o'clock in the morning. This song just happened to become their big hit off the album. Terry Katt was the shit on the guitar.
That’s Music…pure and simple….GIANTS! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Man this blew me away
Robert Lamm is the guy on the keyboards. He also sings lead sometimes.
Which song you wanna hear next by them?
There is an excellent documentary on Terry Kath you can watch for free on youtube called “Chicago: The Terry Kath Experience”. It tells about his life and the band, he was much more than one of the great guitarists. The documentary also talks about his death a week before his 32nd birthday when he shot himself in the head with a gun he thought wasn’t loaded.
I am amazed. You are the first person that I know of who has guessed the closet to the true meaning of the song's title. Next try the same concert, but "Make me Smile".
Chicago. GOAT! Simple as that.
We saw Chicago in concert a couple of years ago. Not all members then are the same now, but still put on a show.
BRO GREW UP HEARING THIS ON RADIO BACK IN THE DAY GREAT PERIOD FOR REAL MUSIC
The next song should be “Introduction” it was the first song on their first album and really sets the tone of who they are!
Song is about writing songs. Early in the morning. Up all night long, writing songs
These are what are called musician, pretty rare in American music nowadays. Far too many claiming the title cant play an instrument, cant sing without autotune, cant write a song, couldnt write an arrangement if their life depended on it. Its all fluff and FX and studio fixes. You judged Terry Kath on his clothes and was surprised that he could play. The biggest stars today for the mot part are doing pitiful pop with a lot of ass-shaking, hoping that you wont notice. WTF does how he dresses have to do with anything?
Go dig up their debut album when they were known as The Chicago Transit Authority and play these two tracks: "Introduction" and "Poem 58". Guitar player Terry Kath wrote "Introduction" and sang lead vocals. He was called "The White Ray Charles" by his bandmates. Soulful baritone voice! "Poem 58" is nine minutes of PURE FUNK led by Terry Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass. Kath's guitar will have you needing an ice pack for your jaw after you pick it up from the floor! czcams.com/video/j8aJiLUaWGI/video.html
When they were "The Chicago Transit Authority", they were the house band at the Whisky a Go Go in LA. One night between sets, Jimi Hendrix, who was in the audience, went to their dressing room after catching their first set. He walked up to their sax player Walt Parazaider and said, "You guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs and a guitar player that's better than me! You wanna go on the road?" They said "YEAH!". And that's how they became Hendrix's opening act on a national arena tour.
They started out as Chicago Transit Authority and that was tbe name of their first album. Then the Chicago Transit Authority, the ones who run the El and busses in town said hold up, you can't use our name. So after that it was just Chicago
I remember this when this came out when I was in High School. Back when I could sit crossed-legged on the floor. Can't go wrong with Chicago.
In the '90's the band told a story about staying up to the wee hours of the morning "six to four" presumably meaning six minutes to 4AM. Growing up in Chicago when this album came out we heard a different story. The question was whether to do another 25 micrograms of acid and stay awake or take a Quaalude to sleep. Quaaludes had a 624 stamped on one side.
In ny opinion Terry Kath is one of the top guitar players in the entire world and he died so young too, so imagine if he continued to get better!
The reason the band is "chillin" as you said was that if you look you can see 1st the keyboardist and then a roadie is helping the drummer fix his cymbals.
Check out The Who at Tanglewood 1970. Will blow your mind.
Chicago's a good band you're going to enjoy this, turn it up, lol lol, love all the brass, this is what music was music not nowadays with everything is all synthesized, this is great, yeah they used to call themselves The Chicago Transit Authority, before they shortened it, I know you like it, damn he's going off on the guitar, 🕯️🕯️🕯️,wow, still going, awesome, I was waiting for that solo, yes awesome, loved it, thank you, another great song, p.s ewwww you got boogers, lol lol, Mr Doge has cooties, lol lol, you may want to try "look away" by also by Chicago.
lmao i clean the boogers 🤣🤣
RIP Terry Kath.
rip 💔
No one’s ever told you?-pausing during a guitar solo is a definite no-no, especially THAT guitar solo.
Please do MAKE ME SMILE and BEGINNINGS by Chicago

What you should take from Chicago is that you always, always, always assume an empty gun is loaded!
Back in the mid to late 60s until about 1973 about 99% of men in this country had very short hair, I mean no hair over the ears or touching the collar, you could not even get a job with long hair back then, so this was considered real antisocial behavior back in the day, but the girls loved it! Why do you think men grew their hair long and started playing in a band? It wasn't to impress the men!
don't play with guns, Terry RIP.
When Terry was rhere.Best of Chicago.

STOP PAUSING IN SOLO's! Control the urge to 'pause' when you see something spectacular being done because there will be many, many, many more 'spectacular' scenes w/future reactions to contend with. Just saying ...
