Staggering to realize that this was 50+ years ago. Still gets turned up to 11 at my house.
I'm only 38 and that feels crazy because my Mom instilled this music on me so young that it feels like it's mine too 💕
1970 was 30 years ago and I won't hear otherwise.
@@verbaluk1 agreed 🤣🤣
@@verbaluk1 I'll take that! 🤣
This is SPINALTAP. I Love 11 too.
"Made the guitar start laughing at us" I never heard it put that way, but he's right!! That's exactly what Terry Kath did in that solo. Great reaction!
"It's 25 or 26 minutes until 4am and I still can't figure out what the hell this song is going to be about when I'm done writing it"
This exactly is the meaning of the song, haha
Yes! I’m from Chicago too, that is how we say time, it’s 25 (minutes to hour) 4 (hour)
true story
The way I head th story was they were in a hotel someone ask what time it was and that inspired a song.
@@billforrester5235 I think that is “does anyone really know what time it is?”
This song is pretty special to me.
My Dad ( who I rarely saw growing up) picked me up one day.
I was probably 12 years old.
He pulls out this 45 and says "You like this band?" and it was this song. Idk why he gave it to me and Idc. Just the fact that he thought of me, long enough to get it and give it to me was good enough for me.
He died when I was 17 years old.
So here's 🍻 to my Dad. 💕💕💕
I thought a .45 caliber firearm!! Lol, duh. I get it...
Cherish that memory...because in the end that's all we have...
Yeah the younger generation probably doesn't know what a 45 is! Hahahaha...I'm so OLD! 🙄
@@marilynk30 me too, the same age as Chicago (band!) 53!
@@Frau44 yep 52 here.
Terry Kath absolutely going off. One of the greatest to ever pick up a guitar, and hardly anyone these days ever even heard of him.
Put it this way: Jimi Hendrix called him the best in the universe!
Also there was a lot going on with this song, lyric wise, music wise, it’s a masterpiece, Terry Kath was a phenomenal guitarist
Stone cold facts!
Absolutely !
Terry Kath...RIP
It's hard AF to play! I used to try to break down the horn section as a kid. Took me a long time to get it!
The GREAT Terry Kath! RIP died way to young we miss you !
His name is Terry Kath, and people need to put some respect on his name! Chicago's debut album Chicago Transit Authority is full of amazing songs! From Beginnings, questions 67 & 68, I'm a man, Poem 58, free from guitar (this is Terry on acid or something cuz it's crazy lol), south California purples. It's an amazing album!
One of the great guitarists of all time and a damn good vocalist too. This us one of his outstanding permonances. 💯💯💯
I don't think any of my other favorite reactors have done Question 67 & 68. You could beat Jamel_aka_Jemal to the punch on this on.
Yes! The first decade was bad ass!!
Make Me Smile is one of my favorite Chicago tunes.
Chicago II - the whole album is fire.
Feeling Stronger Every Day, Saturday in the Park, Make Me Smile...
Saturday in the park!!!
“Saturday In The Park”
“Colour My World”
“Wishing You Were Here” (Al Jardine, Carl Wilson and Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys did the backing vocals on this tune.)
“Only The Beginning”
“If You Leave Me Now”
“Just You and Me”
“Feelin’ Stronger Every Day”
“I’m A Man”
Fun fact (for only me probably): Chicago VII was the album I had on my record player when my house burned down in 1977.
Essentials. 😎
Sorry your house burned down 🥺
@@nolagirl2458 Thank you. Of the five places I’ve lived, the first two burned down. Whatever it was didn’t follow me, thankfully. 💜
You nailed all my LEAST favorite songs by them. Only a chick... 😂
Hendrix called Terry Kath "the best guitarist in the universe". Both died too soon.
Both in bs ways too, so many like them were their own undoing, it's always sad to see.
Never knew this. Nice.
I was watching a documentary where someone told a story about Jimi walking up on the side of the stage as Terry was playing, and he said something like "Man, I wish I could play like him".
No. He did not!
@@jeffyoungblood4978 yea he did
I’m A Man from this same concert live at Tanglewood, has got to be next, Jimi Hendrix once said Terry Kath was the best guitarist he had heard, Terry left us way to soon in the prime of his life , Chicago pretty much went to soft rock and love songs after his death but had success RIP Terry Kath
“He start popping that thang and made it start laughing at us”...he sure did🎸✨
Chicago before the saccharin took hold were such an inventive group of musicians. The early albums are masterpieces.
When Terry passed, it was over. IMO
RIP the REAL Chicago!
Impressive making such a great song about staying up all night on cocaine.
@@ernestortiz4555 Probably wouldn't have happened on an 'all-nighter' of Red Bull and McFlurry's.
@@Tomlinsky What's a McFlurry?
“I’m A Man” is another great performance by Chicago.
There are two fantastic performances avail, this concert (encore) and the 1969 version B & W.
Yes! That live version of I’m A Man is the best!
Or it better end soon from the same concert
Yes it is and it loves you so
Rest assured, my internet friend, anything that any of us were ever taught that says only [insert skin color here] people can do something is 100% wrong.
@Brian Taylor
I couldn`t agree more!
@Brian Taylor 100% Fact. Totally agree.
Yep! 🤦🏼♀️
...and designed to separate us.
😍
Chicago has so many really great hits it's ridiculous. They are guaranteed to get your feet moving. You may also like... feeling stronger everyday..
Does anybody really know what time it is... and....Saturday in the Park
CZcams .... Leonid and Friends
They are a Cover band for Chicago.
And such a amazing story with them
My son is 28 nowand bought a ticket up front to last tour in Chicago and went alone so he could bring in all their masterpieces. He appreciated music and not the good time with friends more
THE 1970s were a little bit fun , Sht who am i kidding THEY WERE FANTASTIC
One of the best things about the 70s was the horn sections. So many different instruments and people jamming together.
YES!
Now, you threading on the ELITES of the 70s!! Along with Earth, Wind, & Fire, The Eagles, Doobie Brothers...Chicago is a BAD ASS band!! They still kickin' today!! Many of their jams, including this, played by high school and college marching bands!!!!
Must hear "Hard to Say I'm Sorry". The singer is Peter Cetera. He also did "Glory of Love" for the original Karate Kid II movie during his solo career.
This is what true artistry looks like in an electric guitar solo... There have been many fine guitarists over the years but only a relative handful of humans can create something this complex and masterful on the instrument live, with such force and grit and expression that it just grabs you and carries you away for the whole trip.
You so need to go down the rabbit hole with their early stuff! "Beginning" and "make me smile" will have you all over your sofa and walking around.
Chicago: Satuday In the Park
Chicago: Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?
I was born in 71 and my dad was a Sax player who played in bands like this. So I grew up to this stuff. And I love watching young cats react to it. Dope, ain't it?
This is what is missing in today’s music all instruments. Talent beyond just singing.
Terry Kaith is the guitarist. Quite possibly one of the most underrated and unspoken guitarists ever
He wrote the song in the middle the night at like four in the morning staring at the clock and that’s how the song came about
is
Terry is my all time fav musician.
I love seeing new fans hearing Terry for the first time.
@@chrislewis7841 yes! 25 to 4 is 3:35AM. Trying to write a song.
I heard an apocryphal story that said when Jimi Hendrix was asked what it's like to be the best guitarist in the world, Jimi said, "I don't know, ask Terry Kath." Don't know if it's true, but Terry Kath was so talented, all around.
It's true...
It's absolutely true...
I think Hendrix truly loved him but I've heard that exact quote applied to Clapton/Prince and Clapton/Halen so that part probably isn't true. Or this is the real quote that started the "meme" idk
Chicago - I'm a Man - live 1970 - Tanglewood...must see, cuz....It's Brilliant!
Unfortunately when Terry Kath died, so did Chicago. The rock and roll was gone and sappy AM pop music replaced it. At least you listened to the absolute best version of this song.
Very true! Those early lps were fantastic...
The 80’s happened. There would have been no David Foster if Terry were there.
Agree 100%
The band would not have lasted very long had Terry not died.
@@themisianos absolutely, look at them now, everyone hates Cetera, and visa versa. Its crazy to think as dysfunctional as they were, they made so much music.
Everything before Kath died is fire.
Chicago is famous for their horn section.....The Bee Gees used them for their song TOO MUCH HEAVEN
Chicago is a bad ass rock group with brass instruments. I love them. Saw them live once and it was an amazing experience! 🥰
Tru ℹ️☑️
They WERE bad ass in the beginning. Then they went candy-ass.
Do Chicago "feeling stronger everyday" a very inspirational song he made after his father passed away. He was devastated, but knew his dad would want him to keep it going. Guaranteed to give pickle skin.
Omg this is the greatest rendition of this song I have ever heard. Three cheers to whomever requested this one. Awesome! Always loved the hell out of this song! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️
Color My World! Most romantic song ever! CTA was great, saw them several times in the 70's.
CONGRATULATIONS! Best reaction EVER. This song is about when the band took acid late at nite when they had to be in the studio, finishing this (as then unnamed song). Time dragged; someone asked the (very precise minded) recording engineer what the time was. He looked up and said "It's 25 or (2)6 to 4.
The guitarist you are watching shred that Fender Strat is Terry Kath, Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarist.
You rock dude, and music has no colour except all of them, like a rainbow. Have a cool Yule my sweet dude.
Love from Lockdown East Coast of England. x
BTW i was like No.600!
Chicago is one of those bands that has so many hits it's hard to know where to start. Really, pretty much anything you can find would likely be worth it. I'd suggest searching Chicago Greatest Hits and start with the first song and work your way down. Thanks for reacting to this!
50 years ago, I was listening to this song everyday at lunch hour when I was a freshman. An upperclassman would blast it down the hallways on his boom box. Good times!
You'll have to add a name to your GOAT guitarist list. Terry Kath, one of the most under-rated guitarists in rock and roll history.
The late great guitarist Terry Kath 46-78. He jammed so well that Jimi Hendrix once told him..."Hey man, an outstanding performance...I dig it!!...you even play better than me!..."
This song has always been amazing, from the bassline to the horns to the ASTOUNDING guitar solo, but I think one of the things I love most about it is the idea of staying up late at night, struggling to write a song, just bashing your head against a wall and coming up with nothing and then, just after three thirty in the morning saying "fuck it I'll write about writer's block" and ending up with 25-or-6 to 4.
Terry Kath is the guitar player. RIP Terry, totally underrated, he was amazing.
I had a best friend in High School and we would have sleep overs, we would fall asleep to Chicagos greatest hits cd on repeat..
I just lost my Mom on the 17th and Chicago was one of her favorites.
Thanks for this.
Chicago peaked at the start. They were fantastic recorded, fantastic live. They slowly moved into lounge music, but you gotta be happy for the early great, great masterpieces. I mean, funkadelical!
Early Chicago just shreds expectations. After Terry Kath's death, they had to reinvent themselves, but still make a very good band, though they went more toward ballads, love songs, and softer rock.
This NEVER gets old💯💯💯💯
RIP Terry. Always check that your gun is unloaded before playing with it. Terry didn't. One of the greatest players ever.
"Does anyone know what time it is?" one of their most popular songs. The reply, "It's 25 or 26 minutes until 4 a.m." this song. Love you bro, keep up the goodness.
I dig it that you always respond to the comments. It makes you one of the best. Let's get to 500K subscribers, man.
Horn section gives me dill pickle chillz every time! One of my favorite bands of all time! Go Terry!! Of course Peter is awesome as well!
Terry Kath. One of the best guitarists ever. Missed soooooo much.
Color My world, by Chicago was my wedding song👩🏼🦳
Ballistical, crystical, and mystical! Awright now! 😂 I love it. Chicago is THE band.
New subscriber from the UK your reactions are so funny keep it coming.
This song is still floating around kicking everyone’s ass. It was used in a new Army commercial but then I looked and found there’s a full-length remix! czcams.com/video/LGCs4CS6ENA/video.html
I’VE BEEN MEANING TO SHOW YOU THIS! I’m so glad you saw it. Terry Kath is one of my faves! One of our best ever! Excellent! Jimi loved him! His singing voice has even been compared to Ray Charles! We lost Terry way too young. The band wasn’t the same when he was gone. Sad story 😢 I was 15 and devastated. Been a fan of this Chicago since I was 10. Im sure you’ve heard many of their songs. But this is the best lineup of them. I’m so glad you digging on this Leo! Dig deep. This is one FANTASTIC BAND! 😃☮️💜🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁🥁
Once the pandemic is over, you could try your hand at being a wedding DJ for fun - I bet you'd be a huge hit.
Years ago, there was these folks called musicians.....and they ruled.
I haven't heard this in forever. Wow. There is a slow, romantic song you might like by them called "If You Leave Me Now".... I had the 45 single of it when I was in elementary school. Beautiful song.
Every HS pep band played this too back in the day.
What you witnessed is the greatness that was Terry Kath. A musical genius. R.I.P.
I went to their concert about 5 years ago, and this song was so loud I had to scream to sing along, and I still couldn't be heard on my phone recording. I waited through the entire show to hear this, and it was the finale. So worth the wait!
Anything by Chicago is outstanding. Anything! I got to see them in concert several times over the years. Each show was different, and each was amazing. You can’t go wrong with them. Great reaction!
Mr. Video always makes mondays better, thank you sir. Franz Ferdinand- “Take Me Out”. Plz and thank you
Yeah + The video is awesome too! 👌 👏
I've been waiting on this one. I've mentioned my late brother and how he loved your Bohemian Rhapsody reaction. Well, my brother's nickname was CHICAGO because he LOVED this band so VERY, VERY Much!!!! I wish he was here to see this review. They're my favorite band also and they're still out there doing their thing for the last 50 plus years!! Loved It!! Thanks!!! 💕
My condolences
@@HandleTakenlol Thank you...
Brother, people have NO IDEA how great of a band Chicago was and how they ticked off all of the boxes, Peter Cetera on bass and his majestic voice, Terry Kath on lead guitar, the horn section and percussionist. Everything was top notch when music was really the focus.. It was treat watching your response to this and discovering this song performance. This was REAL music.
He was in the ZONE playing that solo and he took us all with him! :)
I second the Foghat SLOW RIDE EXTENDED LIVE
Foghat is so underrated!
This is how GREAT MUSIC WAS IN THE 1970s ,,,, MY fav times ever ,,
This guitarist was Jimi Hendrix’s favorite of all his contemporaries.
Was going to say the same thing. Beat me to it.
Watching this makes you realize why.
Fact.
Glad Hendrix heard him!!
@@sg-yq8pm Baseless claim? You sound like the official CZcams commentary attorney presenting evidence in a criminal trial.
Don’t know about that?, but he was quoted saying that Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top was the next big guitarist.
RIP TERRY KATH. Perhaps one of the greatest guitar riffs ever
What amazing song. Has it all. One of the best songs of all time in my opinion. And wow can he play that guitar like crazy good 👍😊. Like great. Really great.
Don’t bother searching for another Chicago song like this. There are none anywhere close to this! They became known more for easy listening than rock. Nothing else even approaches the badassery of this one.
I’m also requesting “Slow ride” by Foghat- long /extended studio version- ❤️🤍👍✨
Leo would be body rolling through that song. 🎶
Been trying to get him to react to that. He would love it
@@markclark6702 without question. Perfect LEO song.
@@markclark6702 yes! Agreed!
I love Foghat Slow Ride!
Perhaps the most amazing part of the entire original video is, what how closely everyone else in the band watches Terry solo...they’ve been listening to him play for years by this point, but they still know that they don’t know what he’s capable of pulling off
Terry Kath was once called the greatest guitarist by Jimi Hendrix that he ever heard!! Like all the great ones left us to early.. RIP Terry Kath
Wait until you hear Terry Kath sing. Try "Make Me Smile"
It's 25 or 6 minutes to 4 o'clock in the morning. In other words, he's been up all night. I don't know who these guys on the brass are but they are excellent.
These guys are so awesome that they started play before they equipment was even set up yet, you must go down this rabbit hole, they have so many great songs just like this one, you won't be disappointed 😉 🤟
Chicago is a fantastic band, totally amazing in concert!!!👍👌🎵🎶✌️😎
It has never been about the color of your skin but the content of your soul ! Any color can have soul !
I asked a musician friend of mine, who actually studied music, in college, if the title has anything to do with music, or writing. He said no, and that he thinks (recalls) them saying, that it had something to do with the time of day. Many people think it's about doing drugs, all night, but others say it's about staying up all night writing music. I say
it's about doing drugs, while you stay up all night writing music, lol.
😂😝
This is the ringtone on my phone, this song rocks. I love horns in songs
One of my fave performances!! Takes you to another planet!!
Hey buddy you should also try these other super hits from them : "Im A Man" , "Street Player" , "If you leave me now" , "Hard to say im sorry" , "Baby what a Big Surprise" , "You're the Inspiration" & "Hard habit to break" , trust me you will love them all. Ronny
Eh. Lots of better suggestions before the Chicago ballad phase. Those were solid hits, but couldn't touch this musicianship and energy. Excepting: I'm A Man. Still...
That was a good one! Chicago kicks ass! Check out their song “saturday in the park” Also i think you figured out that anybody can have soul. Its not skin color but what you got in your heart. If you sing or play a song sometimes you get this really weird feeling and you get in the zone. Thats when you feel the song in the crowd. Just like you did in the guitar solo. He played that song with so much heart that he made you feel it with him. Very powerful energy and not all people can do it but thats what makes them rock stars. ✌️
The way Chicago combined the brass section and guitars created some really stand out tunes.
Chicago, this lineup, this solo, firing on ALL CYLINDERS! Terry Kath (R .I. P.😢) was such a BRILLIANT Guitarist, Singer... He changed the entire tempo and said "keep up with me". I miss a horn section in music.
Hey man. Terry Kath just nailed that solo. He shot himself in the head by mistake and died way too young. As someone else pointed out, the song title references the time of the morning Peter Cetera was trying to write this song. He was up all night struggling to write and the rest is history.
Bobby wrote the song
Chicago is known for one of the greatest horns sections. Their horn section is a dead give away to knowing that is Chicago’s music being played.
Thank you for your appreciation of the music. My generation had some amazing musicians. Terry Kath.....guitarist
I Had a big smile when I seen you were doing tanglewood version of this song You got to see Terry Kath at his best. List keeps growing bigger and bigger lol. reference of 25 or 6 to 4 is when keyboard player looked up at the clock. actually he thaught his hand gun was empty and he was faking playing russian roulette and the gun went off killing him
Terry had talked about committing suicide for years before "the accident". My son often talked about suicide for years too. Last year he hung himself. We were able to get to him before he died. He was in a coma for a week. November 4th my baby shot himself in the head. He was just 38.

Welcome to the guitar of the late, great Terry Kath! Gone way too soon and so tragically. His vocal abilities were also amazing. IMO Chicago was at it's very best with Kath. Sorely missed. BTW, your reaction was spot on!
