She blows my mind every time I see her singing. I was in that crowd, and for most of the people it was the first time seeing Floor with Nightwish. We were all blown away and instantly fell in love. I can't even really discribe it. I remember my jaw hurting from standing wide open most of the time. I saw a lot of disbelieve in the eyes of people around me. It was just a perfect night.

I am so jealous. I only discovered Nightwish during the pandemic but if I had a one time use of a time machine to see a concert it would be this. Possibly rivaled by Queen at Wembley but Floor never fails to tug at my emotions like no other singer can.

This Wacken set list for Floor is so ridiculously demanding ( BTW , shes been doing some of the hardest set list the past 20 yrs) on her voice and she hits every song out the park and to think she was with Nightwish for only 10 months at this time is crazy .

Floor has said that this is one of the more challenging songs for her to sing, I think because it stays so high, as you mentioned. Everdream was song #5 in the 15 song set, just before Storytime.
Yes, Marko has a great voice. He does sing on a lot of songs, usually backing or co-lead. But , he does sing lead on a few, including The Islander and their cover /tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. He was lead singer of a band called Tarot before he joined Nightwish.
Not sure which ones you have scheduled, but Romanticide and Ghost River from this show will give you a better dose of Marko. You already did Phantom of the Opera with Floor and Henk, Nightwish performed it with Marko and original singer Tarja Turunen.

Interestingly, Floor said it was the LOW part that was the real challenging bit. She has stated that the belting is right in her wheelhouse while the breath control required for the lower parts sits more on the edge of her comfort zone.

Last week I could see Floor live in Hertme, NL in her show ... I was only about 4 meters away from her .... you think all these videos with Nightwish, their CZcams covers, or their solo shows prepares you for what to expect ... No, it doesn't ... The stage presence and that voice is, from that small distance something that completely blows you away.
No autotune, no playback (at the very front you could hear her voice coming out despite the speakers) ... just pure vocal power and charisma ... just thinking about the show still gives me goosebumps!

You just bubble with personality, and it's just so fun to see you watch somebody who epitomizes everything I'm sure you teach. I can see in your eyes and smile that you are watching masters of composition, virtuosos of their instruments (both musical and voice), and wizards of reaching into your chest and touching your heart. I know, because I can see my feelings reflected in your reactions. I don't think anybody on CZcams enjoys it to the level that you do. Of course, I've been subbed since your first Nightwish reaction ... and I will be continue to accompany you on this amazing journey as you discover EVERY SINGLE SONG is a unique story, a life-changing experience and a blessing to us all.

" Ever Dream " is the sixth single by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Released as the first single from the band's fourth studio album, Century Child, it was the group's first single in two years, following " Deep Silent Complete " in 2000.
The song is more operatic in nature than later works and the music itself is more on the heavy metal side. It is still played live since 2002 until today. "Ever Dream" was certified with Gold Disc in Finland two days after its release, with more than 5,000 copies sold, and later received Platinum Disc with more than 10,000 copies sold.

If you want to hear more Marko I would highly recommend "While Your Lips Are Red" I like the live at Wembley version, myself. Part of what makes it great is he gets to lead, and yet when Floor joins in, she stays underneath him, to let him shine. We are more used to him backing her up, and in this one she backs him up without overpowering him in any way.
Also Tarja, the first Nightwish singer, sang this song as well, when she was with the band. It is great to hear the same band playing the same song, so you can really compare the 2 styles of the different singers. I can't personally say for sure which is better even, but there are some differences in how they approach this one.
I would say it is always great to see you cover Nightwish, and it is, but it is also good when you expose me to new singers I might not otherwise get into. A lot of reactors stick to certain styles, you tend to branch out a lot, exposing us to new singers, and breaking it down in a way that keeps it interesting, even if it is not a style I'd often look for.

It's always a pleasure seeing your analyses of Nightwish performances because you always notice and comment on how Floor almost constantly varies the dynamic weight, vocal colour/timbre and vocal effects she uses, whether subtly or very obviously. It really enhances both her storytelling ability and the amount of dynamic interest in her vocal arrangements. It was also great to see you notice the way Floor often incorporates some of the tallness of classical technique into contemporary vocal set ups. It's why her mixed belting tends to have much less nasal resonance than you'd normally get in those types of sounds (though she does occasionally deliberately use nasality with those types of sounds as a stylistic choice). If you want a Nightwish Song that features more of Marco singing but also features Floor doing some things you haven't heard her do yet, I'd suggest Rommanticide from Wacken 2013 or Yours is an Empty Hope from Wembley 2015 (if you want to hear Floor do some false cord growling).

I just love your smile! You're just glowing listening to Floor and Nightwish!
I haven't read these other comments but this was the first song in this epic set of sets. This was the most-difficult song for Floor to perform because it was written with Nightwish's first singer in mind. The notes she uses up high are not the same as on the recorded version, because it's pretty high for her. But she does get there at the end, and it's sooo satisfying.
    Great video!

So good seeing you back reacting & analyzing Nightwish!!
Really love how much you enjoy Floor's voice and in general the whole Nightwish song/performance!!
Your analysis keeps me learning even more details, thank you!!
    ...
And next, to mix things up (i.e. to introduce to you more of Nigthwish's variation), I'd recommend:
The Islander (Live at Tampere) [Gabriel's link!]
    ...
then, you should continue with the list and go to: Song Of Myself (back at Wacken 2013)!

If you wish to hear more of Marco's amazing talent and versatility, check out "the islander" from tampere, or "kiss while you're lips are still red", or the NW tribute to "high hopes", and lastly, "phantom of the opera" from the end of an era performance. All are uniquely different, and all are mind blowing! You will not be disappointed

Floor really is an artist isn't she? So expressive with her voice.
Marko has an amazing voice. The last note in high hopes is *chef's kiss* like for a bloke who has had botched throat surgery he really came back strong. You'll end up down a Northern Kings, Ayreon & Tarot rabbit hole

Bethany, you have the rare gift of matching intense joy with sterling, professional info. Through your reaction(s), these already legendary Wacken performances shine even more! Each time I've watched you experience their music, Nightwish gains a little something which is very precious and hard to put into words. So I tried and did "go back". Not to relisten to Everdream per se, but to again watch you reacting to it.
BTW, I think at 7:20 you actually found the perfect term for the subtle emphasis Floor adds to her vocal magic: matching colours. In a way, I believe that's what your reactions are to Floor's voice. A perfect match, in the sense that you naturally seem to resonate with the way Floor herself feels and expresses Tuomas' compositions.
Like Floor highlights "me" and "need" (like on a painting), you match & thus emphasize Floor's delivery. Without, I might add, taking away anything from NW as a whole. I mean, the utter delight when you first experience another perfect match - the Marko/Floor singular malt vocal blend - is enough for me to rewatch this reaction of yours more than just "one more time" (the endearing motto from your previous NW reaction to Storytime).
All this to just tell you how much I appreciate your Nightwish/Floor reactions. You're both a natural AND a total professional, like Floor. As I said, a perfect match. I seldom watch reaction videos more than once, but those of yours to are the exception. So because I just can't get enough, "we go back, one more time"🤘Cheers from Amsterdam!
P.s.: you mentioned the word "continuity" (or was it consistency?) and with that in mind, witnessing your reaction to Marko's stellar voice, I believe a recommendation of "Romanticide" (Wacken 2013 of course) is in order.
As to Floor, "doing so many cool things in such a short period of time" (indeed!) 5:15 .. I feel confident that her 2021 solo live performance of the After Forever classic "Face Your Demons" would be the perfect choice if you ever dream of giving yourself a little vocal treat.
Okay enough already, /rant. Here's to rewatching!

She also happens to be the inspiration for Floor to pursue a career in metal.

Ya, I'm no expert on Marko...only recently having looked up the information, but Marko and his brother created a band in the early 1980's called Purgatory, which was renamed to Tarot in 1984 I believe. In that band Marko was the lead singer (as well as bass). Looking at the timeline on wikipedia, he was the lead singer until about 2003. He continued to play with Tarot as a bassist until, well probably until he retired last year while Tommi Salmela took over as lead singer in 2004.
So, Marko has a LOT of experience being a lead singer in a Heavy Metal Band (Tarot is considered heavy metal). So he really does know what he is doing.
    And you WILL love hearing more of him. Some Nightwish songs where Marko takes the lead are;
    - While your lips are still red
    - High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover)
    - The Islander
Those are the 3 I can think of off the top of my head. These are songs where Marko is lead. There are many others where he does more or less backing vocals.
Also, I wanted to mention... eventually you will get to the big 2 (no hurry, unless you want to)... "The Greatest Show on Earth" and "The Poet and the Pendulum". Before reacting to either of those songs I highly suggest you do some research on those songs. Knowing the background story to those songs will allow you to really appreciate them MUCH more... especially with "The Poet and the Pendulum"

Tommi never took over as lead singer but did sing some lead, he was basically harmony vocals and did some minor key/sample work live. Marko was always the main vocalist. Tarot basically ceased to exist after their drummer Pecu died. For Marko's best singing in Tarot, my favs are Pyre of Gods and Tides, especially the live version.

There are a surprisingly large number of reactors who are so focused on Floor they barely mention Marko, so thank you for giving him the attention he deserves (not that I doubted you would). To explore him further, the four must-listens IMO are High Hopes and Phantom of the Opera (both from End of an Era), The Islander (Tampere - do the longer video with his intro if possible), and Romanticide (Wacken - again if you can get his intro it's fun). There are plenty more after that, though!
Like Floor, he can tackle a huge range of styles - a couple of years ago he won Finland's Masked Singer with songs from artists including Elton John, Blondie, Prince, Backstreet Boys, and Coolio. Though my favourite of his outside Nightwish has to be his own song, The Voice of My Father.

I love watching your reactions to Floor and Nightwish, Your smile makes my day, seeing the enjoyment on your expressions and in your eyes, and of course I am also smiling and enjoyin the music. You will enjoy Marko's stuff, he has a great voice. I love Floor from the very first time I heard her when she had me captivated throughout the video and you are heading that way too, its not a bad thing lol. I still listen to the old Nighwish songs with Tarja and Annette as they are what i grew up listening to however they dont make me cry like Floors voice does. Can't wait to see the next reaction, Maybe "Yours is an Empty Hope" from Wembley? Don't forget Floor had her own band too (After Forever and Revamp) I think you will like them also, and has done some cracking covers and her own original songs. Take Care

I'm really happy this was your next Nightwish reaction because it gave you a nice intro to Marco. You'll see many wonderful recommendations in the comments ('The Islander', for sure), but my suggestion would be 'Weak Fantasy' live at Tampere, Finland. It shows how they sound together in unison and in harmony and also displays a different 'edge' to Floor's singing. They are both incredible vocal athletes. Thank you for the wonderful reaction!

I always enjoy your reactions and envy that you get to experience bands (like Nightwish) for the first time. There are also many threads that lead from Nightwish to other music. Marko will be missed from Nightwish but he left behind some great performances in The Islander and Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red. (On 'The Islander', there is an untranslated part where Marko is just asking the audience if they will sing the chorus with him.)
And if you want to hear an earlier raw Floor, check out After Forever - Dreamflight Live and ReVamp - Wild Card .

In Many Songs Floor and Marko Harmonize, and then switch the High and Low Parts, I See Nightwish as a Group of highly Experienced Musical Artists, Each Very Unique, working tightly together. In 2013 She had only worked with Nightwish less than a Year, Tuomas and Her worked together to Modify His Works to build a Stronger Performance. If you Watch the whole Show I see the Whole band has become a fan of Floor and She has become a fan of the Whole Band, A Brotherhood & Sisterhood to the Music. Floor Jansen is such a practiced Vocalist she takes on risky vocals and Just rises to the occasion as needed for the Music and looks so at ease doing it.

One of the reasons I love Floor's voice so much is the way she handles onsets. She can go from silky smooth, relatively quiet notes, to these super crisp punchy onsets. In some songs she'll use a touch of vocal fry at the beginning of a note. And with all the varied techniques and sounds she uses her diction is still really good. I think some singers who play around with their voice to produce cool effects tend to lose diction as a result. Floor doesn't.
And yeah, Marko and Floor together are just magical. He said that Floor was the only female singer he had worked with that could keep up with him in terms of volume. He had to tone his voice down to keep from overpowering the previous Nightwish vocalists, but with Floor he could let loose.
