Tuomas is a poet and musical genius. His ability to write epic lyrics and compose music are legendary.
He really is a genius. He doesn't do all the beautiful orchestration, but he sure has a knack for mind-blowing songwriting. _The Poet and the Pendulum_ is one of the few works of art that consistently makes me cry. It's one of the heaviest (emotionally) songs I can think of.
FYI, Marko also used to sing the Phantom’s lines in Nightwish’s version of ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ where he actually competed with then vocalist Tarja Turunan (a much more operatic style singer) in hitting the high notes! It’s quite a thing to hear…..

Marko is basically the godfather of finnish heavy metal, his first band Tarot just blew everyone away in the 80's. And he was the perfect fit for Nightwish at this point.
Yep, that's our beloved Marko! The guy has a great voice, and when he and Floor harmonize it is absolutely divine! Hopefully someday we will get a chance to see them perform together again. We all miss him, but his health and happiness come first.
In case this is your first time you hear Marko, he formed a band called Tarot in 1982 w/ his brother. Well, actually it was Purgatory at first, but they changed the name in 1984.
Marko also released his first solo album a few years back, called Pyre Of The Black Heart. It's been released both in English and Finnish. Also Northern Kings is one of the so called super groups he's been with plus featured in many other projects
He also won Finland's version of the masked singer (lol)
By The way Tarot will be on stage in summer...

He is on the new Delain album in the song Invictus.

This is a band where individuals are all crazy talented but they do not flaunt their skills with the expense of the song/story. They'll do what the song needs and do solo astray. No ego.

That eye rolling back, goosebumpy, speechless feeling....we call that a Floorgasm. And Marko.....yeah. He's kinda metal royalty on the European scene. He is metal.....it oozes and drips from him. There's plenty of them together...Romaticide, Ghost River, I Want My Tears Back...and he has some solo stuff. If you're a Pink Floyd fan, they did a tribute to High Hopes that is mesmerizing. Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red, and The Islander are great solo pieces from him in Nightwish. Keep going, Ray. You've only scratched the surface.
For Marko only people usually like Islander or Pink Floyd tribute High Hopes but I personally like the most While Your Lips Are Still Red live from Wembley.

Marco is a hella singer. He has lots of solo stuff too. Missing him since he left the band.
Somewhere it was said that Marko has the Voice Of All Gods. Couldn't have put it better, he is pure gold!

Floor said that this was one of the most challenging songs to sing because it was originally sung by the first singer Tarja
who only sung in an operatic voice. Floor wanted to sing it using mostly her head voice. There is a key change at the end of the song where it goes even higher!
Marco is an awesome singer. To hear the beautiful timbre of his voice you should listen to “While Your Lips Are Still Red from Wembley.

Romanticide is probably next on your list, you'll get some good Marco on that. His best solo performance is probably High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover) at the End of an Era concert. That was the last concert with Their first singer, Tarja, (you'll get to hear Marco's Metal Phantom at that concert, too) Most Nightwish songs have at least Some Marco, and the blend of his voice with Floor's is always spectacular.
Best Floor / Marco back and forth for money is Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, Buenos Aires, 2018, Decades tour.
Marko is a legend! I LOVE him in Planet Hell (with Floor or Tarja, that song is one of my faves) and The Phantom of the Opera with Tarja from de End of an Era concert 👌😊

Well...At that time in 2013, this song was the most challenging vocal piece for Floor (believe it or not).
And now, this song is not only in Nightwish setlist (Current tour), but in Floor's Solo Concert, that was in Amsterdam, as well (I still have to specify the set list for the Floor's upcoming solo tour, but one thing is certain, Floor loves this song) .
I heard this song "Live" last year, and even without Marko, Floor did his parts beautifully and this song IS forever beautiful still on this day !

To experience Nightwish live in Night setting ( light's, fire and smoke) is just amazing had privileged last time in December and next will be outdoor in Berlin June so only 2,5 months - you're reactions are great because your Express your emotions ( good or positive)
i love nightwish, i loved them in alot of concerts since but i rly have to say, wacken 2013 is their absolut peak its the best complete show of any band i have ever seen. its perfect
For Marko on his own listen or watch High Hopes which is a Pink Floyd cover and you can find them doing in the Tarja Era of the band, The Islander which you can find them doing at Tampere, and While Your Lips Are Still Red which you can find Live at Wembley. With him singing with Floor there are many but Romanticide, Yours is an Empty Hope (see if you can identify who is doing the growl/grunt in this song), a small part of The Poet and The Pendulum, The Greatest Show on Earth and I Wish I Had An Angel just to name a few so don't worry you will hear Marko sing a lot more if you keep listening.
Yes, there are songs with Marko as the primary vocalist, if I'm not mistaken, they're in Gabriel's list and you will get to them in time. Marko also fronted a band called Tarot and is one of the vocalists for a band called Northern Kings (which has released several EPIC covers of familiar songs). He also released some solo singles, including one following his hiatus from the public eye and departure from Nightwish. 😢

Before Nightwish, Marko Hietala founded Tarot with his brother in 1985 and was also successful with it in Finland. There he was the main singer with his brother. When he first meets Nightwish they have another bass player and he only gives Nightwish half a year. He also makes fun of the bassist for being drunk on stage. Soon after, Nightwish fires the bass player and Marko becomes his successor. Marko spelled it with a K in the original, made it a C to be cool, and then went back to the K because he thought it was idiotic. Although he left Nightwish due to depression and no longer wants to make music, he is now touring Finland with his solo program after a break.

Marco is a lead singer in his own right and has fronted several bands. He also did a lot of the post production engineering of this DVD.
Was waiting for it - that moment that Marko comes in. Didn't disappoint! Lol. This song is so amazing. Floor has said it is the hardest for her to sing. The second half of the song is off the rails with how high she is singing and belting consistently. For more Marko, maybe try a trip back in time to hen Tarja was the lead singer and they covered Phantom of the Opera. Marko and Tarja sing that amazingly. Marko also solos his song "The Islander" at Tempere. He also does a tribute to Pink Floyd from the same show that Phantom of the Opera comes from. He features in a few songs with Floor too. Try Romanticide from Wacken 2013. 🙂

Welcome to Marko's vocal abilities.🤘🤘He sang backing or co-lead on a lot of songs, and lead on a few, including The Islander, and their cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. He was lead singer of a band called Tarot before joining Nightwish in 2001. Unfortunately, he decided to leave the band for personal reasons in 2021.
Yep, same concert, song # 5 of 15, just before Storytime. Floor has said that this is one of the more challenging songs for her to sing. Originally sung by Tarja on the 4th album, Century Child in 2002.

Marko is really really solid in the Phantom of the Opera with the original singer, Tarja. Also a good introduction to her. Might be an interesting reaction if you want to see Floor's take on it as well. Not to rank who's better but by having perspective.

I love the Live at Wacken Open Air show, I started my journey with them there and have seen the show dozens of times.
@Rayactions: Rachel, that face you made, hearing Marko, made this whole video! What I haven't read in the comments is that Marko, interestingly enough, won a European version of The Masked Singer only a few years ago!
That being said: I love Ever Dream because it is the most accurate interpretation, musically, of what it's like to be in love. And, this song is the only one I've ever heard a drummer and singer -- Floor and Jukka (pronounced "yoo•ka") -- duet perfectly during a bridge: Floor's vocals sounding desperate, and the drum fills feeling almost frantic. Yet Floor and Jukka pull it off flawlessly. And then, if that's not enough, Jukka just jams it into another gear, and the song just accelerates -- which is when we get to see and hear Floor's belting.
And up until Shoemaker on Human :||: Nature, Floor said this was the most difficult song for her to sing.

Haven't seen anyone mention it, so I'll mention it. "I Wish I Had An Angel" features a lot of Marko, along with the band's original singer, Tarja Turunen. Excellent song, and they really lean into the metal! (For a much softer song from Nightwish, I'd highly recommend an older one called "Sleeping Sun", also with Tarja singing.) 😁🤘🌞

Tuomas, *pron:TOO-oh-Moss) is the keyboardist and composer. Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah) is a classically trained guitarist, bassist, songwriter and talented vocalist both solo and in harmony!
This Wacken (pron: VAW-Kehn) 2013 concert is a masterpiece of live recording and performance...you will eventually see the entire show.
It is exhausting and exhilarating watching Floor and Marko belting and the band at their usual exceptional standard of performance. 👏 and really wait..wait..wait..wait..wait..fun reaction with you👍😂

" Ever Dream " is the sixth single by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Released as the first single from the band's fourth studio album, Century Child, it was the group's first single in two years, following " Deep Silent Complete " in 2000.
The song is more operatic in nature than later works and the music itself is more on the heavy metal side. It is still played live since 2002 until today. "Ever Dream" was certified with Gold Disc in Finland two days after its release, with more than 5,000 copies sold, and later received Platinum Disc with more than 10,000 copies sold.

6:54 YES! YES! You are SPOT ON, ma'am! Tuomas (band's leader, on the keyboards) does an amazing job writing the music. I'm sure he pours every drop of his soul into it. You can feel it in some of the heaver songs. And it's not just the lyrics that are "not canned" but the music itself is very beautiful and bespoke.
I'm really enjoying your videos because you're making all these great points about Nightwish, and you're not bookending videos with a lot of rambling. And welcome to Marko! Both he and Jukka (drummer here) have left the band in the past few years but they are BOTH sorely missed!

Also very recommendable: "The Poet and the Pendukum" - they don't perform it live anymore due to it bringing up too painful memories. If you want to listen to it do a little background search on that song so you'll know the story. When the time comes to actually listen to it be sure you've got a box of tissue at hand. When Floor starts singing the last segment you certainly will be in a puddle of tears. At least I am everytime I hear it!
You can hear more of Marko in a NW context if you watch their version of "Phantom of the opera" and "Ave Maria", no matter if you choose a version with Tarja or Floor. They're equally exceptional good in these...

And like I said, without knowing the background to this masterpiece, it's very difficult to understand what's being said.
A note of a technical nature: With this work, and this also applies to "The Greatest Show on Earth", you should definitely display the lyrics or have them displayed on a second monitor.
Parts of the lyrics are very quiet and are sometimes so drowned out by the music that they are barely understandable. This should be borne in mind if one wishes to make anything based on these two masterpieces.
