:grins: Aye, that's one of those quotes that carries the core of truth in its heart :) I'm a guitar player but my father was a singer, so I have always appreciated the vocalists craft but there are not many that bring me to tears with the beauty of their voice. If someone were to ask who I thought the greatest rock female vocalist was, I'd probably say Anne Wilson ... but that might be because she enchanted me when I was 17 and I didn't meet Floor until I was in my 50's :)
Emppu plays what song needs, not to show what he can do. They all work for the song, not for shining alone. And that is part of the magic I think.
Floor is absolutely one of the most insane singers
And Marco's no slouch either!

The finale of this song feels like being strapped to a superbike with endless gears. Such an awesome piece of music.
If you would like to hear Marko at his finest, watch the Nightwish tribute to Pink Floyd - High Hopes from the End of an Era concert. It was Tarja's last performance with the band (unbeknown to her), and when she went off for a costume change the boys performed this song, with Marko on vocals. It is an incredible performance, brimming with the emotion of the night, and showcases the bands talents very well. David Gilmour himself called it his "favourite Pink Floyd cover".
The ESP EV-1 is Emppu' s custom model. Emppu Vuorinen. Emppu uses his solos' to sing the melodies of the vocal lines. Most of the time. Occasionally he get to let loose, but still tastefully.

Just subscribed so I can follow you on your Nightwish journey. The bass player/male vocalist is Marko Hietala. He has had a long and successful career, starting from before Nightwish ever existed and is greatly respected in Finland as one of the founders of the Finnish metal scene. You will hear more from him as your journey continues. A good introduction to the depth of his talent would be the tribute that Nightwish did for Pink Floyd's "High Hopes," from the End of an Era concert. He also has a wide and varied catalog outside of Nightwish.
Marko also won Finland's Masked Singer.

" Ever Dream " is the sixth single by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Released as the first single from the band's fourth studio album, Century Child, it was the group's first single in two years, following " Deep Silent Complete " in 2000.
The song is more operatic in nature than later works and the music itself is more on the heavy metal side. It is still played live since 2002 until today. "Ever Dream" was certified with Gold Disc in Finland two days after its release, with more than 5,000 copies sold, and later received Platinum Disc with more than 10,000 copies sold.
MARKO! (The bass player) is a vocal god in his own right. He once said in an interview that he loves to sing with Floor because he doesn’t have to hold back. ❤
If yo want to see what Marko can do with Nightwish, look for the High Hopes pink floyd cover, or a song called The Islander. he is great solo as well.
Nightwish fans have been spoiled having two of the greatest voices on stage for so long.......I'm hoping Marko comes back for one more tour.

For more Marco, you should check out his band Tarot, for example the song "Tides" from Undead Indeed.

Every other Floor's verse have a different style to it, ranging from brealthless calls for help to inhuman slides smoother than glass.

One thing about the guitar solos... He usually reiterates the lyrics in the same key and the same notes. Its reiteration. Far more impactful then just shredding nonsense over the beat. He does the exact same thing that the singer just sang. This song isn't the best example of that but most of their sings its reiteration.

If they come over, go and see hem buddy. I saw them just before she got pregnant and that was a blast. I,m gonna see het again at the forth of July with Anne van Giersbergen,. (check her too: little suggestion here) at the old royal palace in the Netherlands in a garden concert. Just can't wait.
True. Emppu's guitar solos are exactly as they should be within the song. Never overdoing it just to be badass. Only tasteful solos. And that's how I see every member of Nightwish. Very perfectionistic and professional, but still having the most of fun together doing it. It sucks when bandmembers leave the band, but with a band that exists almost 30 years it's not really surprising imo. I still miss Marko though.
One of my favorite metal love songs but I would love to see Tuomas and Floor sit down at a piano and give us the ballad they teased us with. Like Floor and Troye did with How's The Heart? and Nemo, just voice and guitar

even if you went to see them live at the next opportunity, you will not come close to the experience this live recording captured.
this performance is over a decade old and floor was in her absolute vocal prime there. she still is amazing. but in comparison to her own self in her own prime, well, voices mature. even though her voice matures uncommonly well. also marco left the band. and the absence of his vocals in the songs he usually sang in is beyond noticeable.
do not get me wrong. the band and floor are still simply fantastic. but do not go to one of their shows expecting to get what the wacken 2013 audience got.
because you will not. floor was at the height of her vocal powers at that time and even for that standard she surpassed herself that night.
“….from the bass player”?? Put some respect on his name lmao that is Marko Hietala, Viking God of our Army and also absolutely phenomenal in his own right. He chooses to be second vocals, but he can, does now since he left, and before he joined Nightwish, was the frontman of his own bands. Nightwish at one point was blessed with three incredibly talented singers in the band together, Floor, Marko, and Troy. Now they have two, only because Jukka, the new bassist, has declined to sing with Nightwish so far even though he does have a wonderful voice.
Can't blame him: who wants to be compared to Marko for the next ten years?

Empuu reminds me of sinister gates from avenged 7x, in that they can make the guitar sing,cry,and make you feel things,and of course they can shred when they need to

With Marco is the 2005 version, the 2022 version is Floor and Henk Poort.
