Frankie Lymon was born on the 30th of September, 1942, in Harlem, New York. He came from a musical family though his family came from relatively humble surroundings and couldn’t depend solely on music. But Frankie Lymon didn’t want the same fate. By the time he died, he was known as one of the foremost doo-wop singers of his generation.

Frankie Lymon fell in love with singing during his childhood and soon became part of a gospel group. This is where he honed his craft and he realized that this was to be his destiny. While he got his beginnings in the gospel, Frankie Lymon knew that he also had to find a way to break into the mainstream. Doo-wop was becoming more popular as a genre and this was the genre best suited for his singing style.
He became successful with his hit song “Why Do Fools Fall In Love?” which became his defining song and the one that he’s most known for. He’s also recorded other great songs such as “Little Bitty Pretty One” and “I Want You To Be My Girl.”
But behind his enormous and rather fast success, he had troubles in his personal life. He abuse drugs and had a set of troubled relationships with various women. In fact, his relationships with women would become a huge discussion point after his untimely death.
Frankie Lymon has had a fascinating life, yet his career and his legacy aren’t always discussed. He’s been largely overshadowed by many of his contemporaries and his short life has sadly been forgotten by many.
But he lived a rich life in his short 25 years. And not only was Frankie Lymon a great artist but he also had a rather interesting albeit strange life and one that’s worth looking back at.

It's hard to imagine how quickly he grew up and all he'd done in such a short life.. I knew the women were a bit older than him but I had no idea that they all looked like they could be his mother! 🧐😳 It's good to see that the world hasn't forgotten him because he was a pioneer in his own right.. 🙂

As a very young child, I do remember Frankie Lymon's songs. Frankie was a good singer, but obviously his love life and 3 wives was another story in itself for Frankie Lymon's.

Ah wow. New to this channel but I haven’t gotten that song out of my head. Thanks for keeping his spirit alive; I regret his early death but I’ll carry this one with me until the end. Beautiful video.
The lyrics to "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" are officially credited to Frankie Lyman and Morris Levy---the notorious record producer who talked Frankie into leaving The Teenagers. Levy took the bulk of the profits, leaving Frankie destitute for most of his life, or as Little Richard says in the movie "Morris didn't use no Vaseline!" Levy went on to cheat John Lennon out of the proceeds from his album ROCK N' ROLL (1975). Most of Frankie's biographers believe Herman Santiago wrote the song by himself but was unable to fight Levy in court over copyright. Sad story all around.

Diana Ross did a version of Why Do Fools Fall In Love, adding a fortune to his estate. That pretty much restarted the issues with the three wives.

Man, I watched the "Why do fools fall in love" movie based on Frankie Lymon and found out that Frankie had married three woman. The one Frankie was legally married to Emira Eagle. The drugs is what ruined his singing career.

Frankie was a great singer. My only criticism would be that several of his early songs sounded the same musically.
