  • Here's the first ~4 minutes of video from a GoPro mounted on top of 504. I only had a couple of mounts with me, so it ended up going on a slightly shaky handrail. Hopefully some of youtubes editing tools can correct some of it.

Good grief! That's a huge train even though its M/Ts. There can't be many preserved diesels that get a workout like that! Good to see she's still capable of lugging such a load.

Nice! Great sound! I worry though, that engine seems to be burning a significant amount of oil.

That's a problem with 2-stroke engines, especially when idled/run low rpm's a considerable amount of time.

James why does the IRM move these coal mtys? I am guessing the plant must be on their side of the tracks or something like that. I remember the MN & S 21 from when it used to come into Humboldt Yard Mpls for the SOO / MNS Interchange. I got to visit the IRM back during my days when Santa Fe had us dispatchers in Schaumberg. It was nice seeing some of the locomotives from back in my ole Soo Line Days yardmastering at Shoreham and Humboldt yards.

      NMsanduneman -
Empty car storage through the winter months, when IRM is closed, on their 5 mile trackage.
Nice arrangement, since it generates $$ for the museum and its projects.

Nice video & unusual camera angle. Also, I like the "race" with the other train. Cheers Adam
