  • On May 29th, 2016, Frisco 1630 pulls 135 empties, 2900 tons and 7200 feet long, from the east end of the railroad to Schmidt Siding. Part 2 is from Karsten's crossing to Schmidt. This was to deliver the storage cars to the Union Pacific at the interchange at the far west end of IRM's 5 mile mainline.

I love how the you can see the firebox pulsate with the exhaust.

And they say that on this day, a few people outside Philadelphia City Hall saw the statue of Matthias Baldwin crack a smile.
Too bad the UP lawyers would never allow it, but they should have the 1630 tow a trainload of new Chryslers from Belvidere to West Chicago, that would be something to see.

Whoever said that steam has no place in modern railroads needs to watch this video.

I live only 45 minutes away from IRM and I unfortunately missed this but after watching the video I was dam well impressed with with the volunteers of the Steam department that helped make this happened.

Absolutely amazing. I am so glad I got to witness this in person. Hats off to everyone who has a part in keeping 1630 running like new! You all really showed off how well you guys take care of it with that run.

Great video! 135 cars makes the old girl sorta hungry - I kept watching the diminishing coal pile.
Did the 504 pull the cars out onto the UP main line and shove them east for pickup?

HI!!! from Green Bay. Super fantastic!!! PLUS!!!, she is pulling BACKWARDS!!! Camera is mounted on the "Dog-house" the brakemans' shanty on the back of the tender. I really wish we could do this here, what with the WPS Pulliam power plant, the NRRM, the CNRy, and M.R. #261. Pray for a miracle!!!

Steven Solway sadly CN doesn’t allow any piece of rolling stock with friction bearing trucks on their trackage

@@wisconsinandnorthwesternra8381 I thought the S-class has roller bearings? CN doesn't like passenger trains, though, so hopefully the line will one day (ideally soon) be bought out by a government entity to allow the return of the 'Flambeau 400'.

    That was an amazing day!

The firemen could use some additional training. Little and often should be the practice. Not shoveling 20 scoops at a time. To do so puts a lot of fuel unburned up the stack.

Great video. May I ask how you mounted the camera to the locomotive?

It looks like it's inside the 'doghouse' on the tender. I don't know if there's someone inside there with the camera mount or not.
