  • Illinois Terminal 1605 pulling a 134 empty coal train from Karstens crossing to Schmidt Siding where the Union Pacific then pulls it from IRM. I removed all the points where we stand still for any length of time.

That's right up my alley. An SD38-3 and 150 cars is my personal best.

Just a car short of 1630's 135 car train, 1605 still did well!

What a healthy set of lungs on 1605!, I had no idea a GP7 could sound so guttural. I thought it was only ALCOs

Still would've liked to see 2407 do it, probably could've pulled it faster than 1605 too but 1605 did a terrific job!

1605 could have pulled more and faster, but there were speed restrictions running through the station tracks because the mainline between the east and west station switches was out of service at that time. I too would like to run 2407 on one of these storage trains.

Fun video! Thank you. Why so slow? How long will a train that long close a grade crossing?

Where is this stretch of track?
Is it the stub end track that extends to the south out of IRM?
Why would there be coal hoppers on this line when there is no coal plant on the Belvidere Sub?
Since when do museum pieces do revenue freight moves?

Gebass6 Judging by the other similar posts the hoppers were being stored.

Lots of museums make extra cash off storing cars. It's a pretty lucrative business when certain commodities experience a downturn in carloadings.

How is it even possible for a single GP7 to pull 134 cars?

How many Coal Hoppers was IRM storing on site?

The question is what’s happened to 1605?

Is this a Alco,G.E. or is it a G.M.? Sounds alright.
