Rane one has a sampler volume, it is shift and beat knob on the mixer for the FX, I think they added later through driver update. I discovered that too from their socials.

Awesome as always. Pioneer has and always will have better effects. Not sure the deck layout of the pioneer is better and more forward thinking. Mixer section of pioneer is better.

I really liked my ns7ii a lot. I was really attached to the tank like quality, awesome features and stuff. The trouble came way later getting really into beat juggling. You have to have full sized stuff in my opinion. They're just far too small for that, even now I can barely juggle the 10 inch records effectively. Honestly the ultimate issue with the ns7ii and all these high dollar controllers is actually serato itself. You'll buy it, and then when the next competing similar product comes out, they'll deactivate it in the software and you'll be migrating your high dollar item over to virtual DJ or whatever. Yeah they do that. The day the rev7 came out, my controller was no longer supported and you're stuck with an old version just like using an SL1 box. Except that the SL1 actually has technical reasons to be put in the past and no longer supported, unlike a controller that directly competes with the rev7. I felt totally insulted as a customer and never used serato again, and thank God because virtual dj and Traktor 3 are both far far better feel and resolution for scratching. You can stream from multiple sources and they actually run on windows machines!! Plus with the numark scratch mixer now mapped natively for djay pro, it's actually quite effective using only my cell phone for awesome dvs.

Unlike the CDJ 3000 vs sc6000 there actually seems to be a valid reason for being more expensive this time, which I wasn’t expecting! I don’t think I’m the the type of DJ to want a dedicated motorised controller (especially since I have turntables already which I hardly use!) but if I was my money would actually be going to pioneer this time

Rev7 seems bad ass. But I have the Rane One and it’s great! The Rane works with almost every platform seamlessly.

I was a scratch DJ and was in battle mode 100% of the time so I could decrease the chances of sending the tonearm swinging all over the record... with that said I don't know why you would want to reach over the platter to adjust the tempo other than to give yourself a backache and nostalgia
Yes! I use my 1210’s in ‘battle mode’ just to keep the tonearms out of the way, but since these don’t have tonearms I’d much prefer the pitch to be vertical… it’s just so much handier!
Great video. I currently have a DDJ SB3 and would love a controller with motorized platters. I personally prefer the look and layout of the Rane One.

The 33 and 45 rpm buttons, are they still useful, now that you can set the range of the pitch sliders on Turntables and controllers?
A good point - I mean, there's no need for a spinning platter strictly anyway, it's all about feel, so once you've committed to that, I guess being able to set the speed to what you like is a small extra step.

Concerning the built quality of the two controllers. I bet that the paint will come of pretty quick on the Pioneer in the CF area like it was on the S9 mixer. Built in FX, the full size mixer and the battle layout of the pitch fader seem to be a plus for the Pioneer, though. The stiff line faders on the Rane can be annoying for Scratch DJs. I like the vinyl platters on the Rane One more, cause they got more space to place your hands on the vinyl surface.

Great tutorial as always. Heard that because of the lcd screens they would have to go bigger on the Rev7 to avoid over heating issues.
Is it possible to cut a real butter rug for example and use it instead of the slipdiscs on Rev7? And is there any backpack that fit this unit?

I like them both. Things for me are on board FX... But the rane in the UK is about 40% cheaper. Suppose you have to decide is it worth it? I'm sticking with my prime 4 but looking forward to future updates of these two.

Fantastic video, as always... Apologies if I missed this, but when you start a track on either of these controllers, does it take a second for the motor to bring the platter up to speed like a traditional turntable, or can you start a track in a more clean digital way (like a CDJ or DDJ1000) where it instantly starts playing? I imagine this is possible when turning the motor off on the Rane 1, but what about when platter motors are on? Thanks!

Great Video. What Camera Switcher are you using?
We use a software switcher, Ecamm Live.
Both controllers are quite competitive. I literally bought the Rane One two days before the rumours of the Rev series and kinda felt a bit of buyers regret. After your extensive video, I actually think maybe it wasn't too terrible. I am more of a simpler dj and stick with the basics. The Rev 7 is definitely more attractive but, a very good chunk of the new features over the Rane One I actually do not use (presently) so, I guess for now, the Rane isn't too bad. Perhaps when my skills grow and I need the few extras, I will upgrade to the Pioneer.
All the extras are nice to have, they both do the basics very very well
I’ve seen some amazing routines with the rane 1, sure the rev has more effects and more dynamic pad controls but the way I see it, it’s like you and your mate both owning lambos, and your mates newer lambo has heated seats and automatic full beams. Sure it’s nice to have and worth the money but it doesn’t make yours any worse! Hope you enjoy your rane!
What is the sound quality of the microphones on the RANE ONE and DDJ RAVE-7. Which one sounds better?

Big topic when Rane One was reviewed was everyone talking about how easy/difficult it is/will be to clean, lube, or replace faders on the Rane One.
Not one review mentions this on the DDJ-REV7. I don't see any quick access panels for replacement. Looks like the entire top needs to be removed.

I dunno about that but I sure have seen a lot of reviews saying that the volume faders are cheap junk, being that rane one has a removable face plate on the fader section of the controller I wouldn't assume you could at least upgrade the rane one faders, at least I hope so since I picked one up. I do like the crossfader the rane one has, I had a ddj-rz which has the magvel fader and it seemed fine but I do like the rane fader quite a bit, and I think it's a hair better than the magvel personally
I should clarify seen a lot of bad reviews on the rev7 volume faders, the rane one has stiff volume faders but I am hoping they are upgradeable not sure if the rev7 has an access plate as well maybe it does can't say don't have one
Another item I haven't seen is a review comparison of the contour controls.
Several reviewers said on the Rane, the knob tends to move over time. Is the same true on the REV7?

I find it bizarre that being a Pioneer product, the REV-7 can’t be used with Rekordbox..
The Rane One can be used with Serato, Virtual Dj and Algoriddim DJ Pro Ai..
I personally have the Rane One and use the Algoriddim software via an iPad and it is a very compact setup..
The Neural Mix feature makes it worth it on its own..
Unfortunately the Rev-7 to date is strictly Serato.
There are a couple of features that I like about the REV-7 like the effects, Talkover and the LCD display on each platter but I don’t intend on replacing my Rane One for the Rev-7 anytime soon..

I agree, I’m confused on why the Rev-7, being pioneer, isn’t comparable with reckordbox, which is the software I prefer to use over Serato. My main reason for not buying this deck, tho I am considering going back to Serato (decks such as Rev-7 and Rane One are possibly the signs of the future being best decks solely comparable with Serato over Rekordbox), which sucks for me but it is what it is (I switched to rekordbox from Serato due to technical issues I was having with Serato that their tech support couldn’t been fix, and I never had any issues with Rekordbox)…but yea can’t understand why pioneer made it only exclusive for Serato 🤬
Any fix for low headphone volume when using a monitor in a loud environment. I had to use a headphone amp that I don’t need to do on my pioneer sx2

@@digitaldjtips this is what happened with my Rane One purchase.. 36 days ago I didn’t know about a Rev 7 (30 day return policy 🙁) I was debating the Rane One vs DDJ-1000 SRT.. chose the Rane and here comes the Rev7 😂.. guess I was fishing for a hint of a next Rane release 😂😂
Now, Denon is not that into battle mixers and such, but they do have spinning platters on their 5000m and 6000m. Would be really interesting if Denon would counter this with a standalone Denon Prime 2M, i.e. a Denon Prime 2 with spinning platters. That would be an insta-buy for me. They would probably need to increase the size of the jog wheels though to compete with these two under review here, but I think there's room to increase the width of the Prime 2 to cater for that.
We agree with you that the Prime controllers would be really interesting with spinning platters too… but also we agree those platters would have to be bigger.

If Denon did a motorized jog wheel controller, that was standalone, amd had their typical denon-ish features that are suitable for mobile DJs, I think I'd jump...
Almost bit and got a Prime standalone, but it didn't tick a few boxes.... almost bought a Rane One, but the mic implimentarion and aux features didn't work for me.... the Rev 7 ALMOST has me, I think it would work for my needs, and if it was under 1500$ I think Id have already bought it, I feel it has about 500 dollars extra added as "pioneer tax".... I also think the Rane is a bit over priced, a couple hundred extra for the Rane name...
Maybe what I'm waiting on is the next NX7....? Or an NX8...lol

No, we think that is a red herring - it'd be too big and heavy.
i think all controllers should have built in scratch sounds. but particularly controllers with moving platters, because they are built for scratching. im surprised i hadn't thought of this before. this is the biggest thing about the rev7 that I like.

if rane would have made the platter portion of the rane one look like the rane twelves layout with a rane 70 in the middle we would not even be having this conversation. To me Rane is built well but did not do enough in the layout and features and I own the rane one... I felt this way from the first day I got it ... I thought it was a rushed product.
That would have made the controller bigger, though.
@@digitaldjtips It would be the same size as the rev 7 because all the rev 7 is a 12 inch mixer in the middle with two 7 inch platters on each side rane could have accomplish the same thing with 12 inch Mixer with out a large screen … You figure the Ns7 was a four channel mixer so a two channel one would be smaller
@@digitaldjtips The fact that I used the rane twelves with a djm s11 Is why I am going to use the Rev 7 When Traveling to different bars that I don’t need to set up two turntables and a mixer. Also the onboard FX and the microphone fx were another selling point for me. I can’t believe rane chose not to do that . Long before the introduction of what pioneer was about to do I felt this way about the rane one It was just too simple sort of like the first Ns7 by Newmark versus the Ns7 2 and 3 those 2 units were night and day from the the first Ns7

If Rane wants to MURDER pioneer, in my eyes, they should create a Rane 12 version with the 72 mixer. That would be the best of both worlds to me
I’ve played on both the Rane One and the Rev 7. I’m torn because as much as I love the Rev 7’s mixer, the Rane’s platters are better to me because of the spindle.. I understand that it’d be a heavy unit but I’d buy it with no hesitation

Good question, not sure.
I'm not in the market for either of them, but the pitch fader position on the REV7 would make it an absolute no-go for me personally - I really don't like the "battle position". Sure, as someone who doesn't like that, I'm probably not part of the target demographic anyway.
Still, it is a bit of a shame, because apart from that, money no object, I'd prefer the REV7 just for the waveform displays in the platter.
The REV1 would be closer to what I would buy for me at this point in time - but again: pitch faders on top is something I really, really dislike. Now that the REV1 is out, I might buy something used from an upgrader though ;-)

I'm an old-school DJ that used to play out all over. I was thinking of upgrading my mixer to the Rane Seventy-Two MKII until I found out about this. I'm thinking of going all digital because most music is now digital. Do you think the Rev-7 would be more fun than the Seventy Two with my SL1200s? Can you play external devices through it?
You need to try it, but it will certainly give you that turntable feel, and yes you can plug external devices in.

Lol True the “battle” layout was just a workaround because of tone arms. Vertical is the natural orientation of pitch faders. I’m sure Rane really thought about it.
rane one sucks from the fader to the fader conrols, eq and fx all being controlled by software, should be called the lame one!
The Rev7 has awesome onboard FX the Rane One just has the Serato FX I personally would take the Rev7 over the Rane One
I own both controllers a I prefer the Rane One . The Rev 7 is too advance for me I felt like a lost sheep I’m putting my Rev 7 up for sale.I test it for an hr and I didn’t enjoy playing repackaged it and put it away in storage. I must add it a beautiful controller I absolutely love the layout.

Currently he uses the Pioneer DJM-S11 mixer, he doesn't use either of these devices as a preference.
I think rane one is for the ppl we like turntables but we can’t take it everywhere and rane one is perfect for that
I like these but I think that if I was going to transition to being a full on scratch battle DJ (I am a club DJ that dabbles a little in scratching, juggling and trickery), I would go with vinyl. The size of the records allows you to make different scratch sounds and use different techniques that wouldn't work near as well on these little guys.
Plus, vinyl scratch dj'ing is visual. I think the visuals on turntables look better than scratching on these little wheels. Just my opinion. The real gold here is the built in scratch mixer.
Plus, I am surprised it doesn't do Rekordbox. Not the biggest Serato fan, find it clunky.
I use turntables in my home studio but don’t carry them on gigs.. the Rev 7 layout is very similar to the layout I use with my vinyl setup but the Rane is similar the standard controller setup (see my dilemma) if I was to purchase the Rev 7 I’ll be looking to sell my Rane 70 and turntables but I’m not sure if I should make the move 🤷🏾♂️

I have a set of turn tables with a numark scratch mixer in the middle, and also have a rane one. Have no problem cutting it up and either and love how much more portable the rane One is. I basically leave my tables for my home setup and the rane one is my travel buddy. The size is great and considering it has two direct drive motors and a mixer in it, really isn't all that heavy.
They both great unit. But it seems like the rane one it's better built than the rev 7. I'm holding off on buying either one. I'm hearing a rumor that there's a rane two on its way.
They're both really well built, the Rane One definitely has more metal though.

Not sure about the rev 7 but out of the 6 assignable serato fx that can be mapped to the 6 fx buttons on the rane, you can use up to 3 simultaneously

We don't know but we presume spares will be available, and we also guess third parties will start making customised/customisable variants.

i know i said it before but this is where im stuck do i unbox my djms11 ive had for over a year now ( yes im an idiot) and just find a case that i can put my turntables along with that or do i get one of these lol .. for some reason when i take my turntables with me each time ive gotta spend time calibrating them when i get back or to the place somtimes which is annoying but then again phase dvs would fix that .. ahhhh lord to be stuck and patient
You could use Phase with your turntables, saves careful setting up

The only reason to buy the pioneer over the rane is the FX …which is huge rane should’ve come out with their own internal effects on the rane one
Yes, it can - you can switch it to a general Midi mode in the settings.

A lot of people are asking...
From what I can tell that's a no, seems serato has pretty much cornered the digitalized spinning platter tech other than the out of left field traktor s4 mk3 though traktor 3 was a bit of a let down, and the spinning jogs are smaller compared to Denon Pioneer and Rane, so probably only traktor die hards really dig it. Dvs is the only way rekordbox does spinning platters but who knows maybe pioneer will surprise us again. For now though they only have DVS and I was not at all impressed with rekordbox DVS I thought it was terribly buggy and serato and traktor DVS worked fine on my laptop but who knows maybe it works on Mac, couldn't say as I hate Macs lol
Big question...is the crossfaded curve control on the REV done by serato software? On the Rane One it is software controlled and it is not very good. It makes the fader sound not nearly as good as hardware controlled faders.
That's a good question, and the honest answer at this stage is that we don't know - will check next time I am in the studio with it powered up, if I remember! 😀

What are you talking about not only does the rane one have a curve knob for the crossfader but also separate knobs for each of the volume fader curves as well which I was fairly impressed with but also confused as to why the volume faders are so stiff. I am thinking to try some deoxit on the volume faders to see if they loosen a bit we shall see
@@kettlenaut7988 If you are not seriously scratching on the rane one, then you might not know what I'm talking about. There is a latency with the crossfader because it's controlled by the software. Not only is this recognized by me and other DJs but it's recognized by serato. Compare a rane one to a rane 72 and there is a beyond obvious difference in crossfader performance.

Rev 7 was horrible I tried my friends rane one and compared both like U and I loved the rane one
That said I flipped my rev7 for 2500
And bought the rane under 1000 win win
Rev7 face plate comes loose can’t replace the fader, the pitch bend buttons were all over the place I think I made the right decision on the rane one

Main thing I like with the pioneer they removed the strip search. I don't know anyone that uses it, it's a pretty useless feature that every controller just has to have.
Personally I still love my Rane One. I just use an external FX unit. To make up for the lack of inbuilt FX

Nobody has ever made a standalone Serato controller, more to the point - it is laptop software.

I am a club DJ (I also make and stream livesets from my home studio). I also play on small gigs and private (rich people) parties. I am in the Techno (40%)/ Tech House (40%) genre, but sometimes I perform in both Deep House (15%) and PsyTrance (5%).
Would this controller do for a Techno DJ for club stuff ? I own several Serato related hardware (in my home studio I have a DDJ-SB2 in combination with a Reloop Neon, for gigs I have an old Denon DJ setup, which is due for an upgrade after 10 years).
Yes, the Rane One is probably the better of the two for you as it has a more conventional tempo fader layout.

If it's working well with DVS and you don't mind the size of it between your turn tables vs just a mixer, I wouldn't. One thing I like better about controllers is they have better native fx controls built in. However you need a good laptop and decent t-tables for DVS to be worth crap, so digitalized platters like the rane, rev-7, or denon m players is a huge plus if you really are into spinning platter tech. Then again if you are not using any motorized tech, and you are happy with the mcx8000 I would stick with it. Most of these newer controllers don't have all that much new to offer besides bigger jogs. Just cuz the girl got a boob job didn't make her personality any better ha ha ha

Yes, the NS7 series : NS7 (2-channel controller), then NS7 II and III (4-channel controllers) but with smaller and less powerful platters.
And the V7 if you count the separate controller modules. Also Denon had motorized “CDJs” too back in the day.
Numark and Rane are under the same big company umbrella now though. InMusic I believe.
And then way before Denon was Technics in the early 2000s. But it wasn’t really great at all.

Another focus when the Rane One was reviewed was the loop function. Most reviewers saying they preferred it over the pioneer DDJ-1000 style loop function.
How does the loop functions compare and differ?
The looping on the DDJ-1000 resembles the ones you found on a CDJ (with two yellow circles for manual loop adjustments), on the Rane unit, its more like the usual controllers (with an auto loop activation button and loop parameter controls at the bottom)

How is the loop function on the DDJ-REV7, is it CDJ style like other Pioneer controllers?

RANE ONE Doesn't have a strobe light. The platters do have the timing dots. At least my Rane One doesn't have a timing strobe.
Rev 7 seems to have some great features but I can't get past the control layout I think it's god awful. Rane one all the way!

nothing is perfect, the pitch is on top, a lot of club djs expected from the controlling pioneer as engines, but this one came for battle dj, I really liked the ddj-rev7, but the pitch location didn't captivate me.

I think moving the pitch controls to the extreme left and right of the unit would work out well for those of us who like to scratch and also mix club music. An option to replace up and down faders with knobs would also be a nice option.
I love the pioneer Rev7 but the position of the pitch control being side ways was the dumbest move. These are not stand alone turntables with tone arms. Why would anyone want the pitch control sideways purposely?

@@Turbo_TechnoLogic I get it. They say they did it for muscle memory but at the end of the day most people prefer the pitch vertically on the side for if they do want to ride the pitch for blending and bpm mixing.
