The MOTORISED Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV7 Review [& DJ Jazzy Jeff Demo]

  • The DDJ-REV7 is a new flagship DJ controller for Serato and Pioneer DJ, aimed at both scratch/battle DJs and open-format DJs who’d prefer a turntable-inspired system. Its motorised platters are best in class, with unique built-in screens. Its overall size, layout and build quality give it a similar feel to using a pro separates scratch set-up. The niggles are minor - this is a fantastic controller.

Great review. Well done Phil & @Digital DJ Tips
I think it's an awesome controller and I'm sure so many dj's will soon be using it. Just like all dj's I love keeping up-to-date with developments and gear, even those that I will never own or possibly use. This will be one of those scenarios as I'm happy with Rekordbox and am not a scratch dj but of course the price would also rule me out. Regardless of me though I just love seeing the buzz and excitement around these big gear launches which always makes me happy to be a part of the dj community.

-SPLIT CUE, for headphone cue-ing YES!

-INSTANT SCRATCH onboard Samplers-(SPECIFICALLY the DRUM BEAT looped sampler (Can be used to Intro or Outro mix onto any song) with the pitch control
-has an additional line input (AUX) for an additional audio source with it's own volume knob
      -& Ergonomically/DESIGNED BETTER:
1st--The AUTO LOOP buttons has the in/out buttons on the right side (Which is better then how the DDJ-1000/SRT has them, on theat has them, on the left side of the large AUTO LOOP rectangular button) should feel better when quick loop beat cutting & mixing
2nd--Putting the Library/Search/BROWSE KNOBS on the right side (instead of the left side, like on the RANE ONE controller)
3rd--The Pioneer knobs, instead of the RANE knobs/caps, which look dated/old on the RANE ONE controller & battle mixers.

Same way any vinyl DJ would DJ on turntables. That said if you'd prefer not to have motorised platters, there is no way of turning them off on this unit. Try the Rane One if you want the choice, or the Rane Four (or any fixed platter DJ controller you like) if you don't care about motorised platters.

Without the cue, how do you come back at the begining of the track ? I know with timecode vinyl, you had to put a hot cue at the start of every track
One of the main reason I'm using Traktor is because it put this hotcue automatically, on Serato/rekordbox, if you're on a turntable and forget to add you hot cue, it's not quick to go back at the begining of a track. It's nice that they give the "full turntable experience" here, but why keeping the unconverience of a format when you can easily improve it

Purist or not, I'm not sure I would buy a controller without a temp cue. I simply use it too much
Also I guess you can't turn off the spinning of the platters, so that you can "ease in" to using spinning platters when you are ready, like you could on for instance the NS7 mk1, 2 and 3

Lets not get too ahead of ourselves here yes it is nice but spinning platters on a controller is not new if used outside there is no daylight mode so this may impact the display on the platters pioneer should have made this a standalone unit with serato built in that would be next gen thinking in my view, failing that the photoshopped fake rev 10 should have been the controller pioneer made with s11 mixer 10 inch platters they could have done this but simply wanted to make their version of a rane one with some gimmicks thrown in again it just smacks of pioneer doing just enough to stay relevant but not doing enough to stand out
