Alright, if Lea doesn't have vocal power to sing Elphie, why was she on broadway? Why does she even have a career as a singer/actress? Her voice has definitely changed since this video was recorded and she has a fuller sound. I personally adore lea and the ground she walks and would definitely prefer to see a trained Broadway actress than see some Hollywood actor who tries play a character who has a significant meaning in the theatre(Russel Crowe!:P) jk point is Lea has credit and can easily pull off elphaba :) nuff said
She NEEDS to play Elphaba on the movie, seriously. I'm sure that if Idina could pick one actress to it, it would definitely be Lea Michele. The woman has talent enough to NAIL the part.

I 110% agree. The only thing I would be a little scared of is if her "broadway voice" would translate into a movie voice.
@@mattross4892 Thinking about her 6 years in glee I think she can pull that since it was quite similar to movie musicals. I think she's as versatile as Idina, musically

I think she's really good at singing! But I still think if they make a Wicked Movie, Idina should play Elphaba. Idina's barely even aged at all since she did wicked anyway! But I really think she would make a great Nessa. She has the resemblence to Idina that would make it seem like they could actually be sisters, and she has a nice, sweet and pretty voice that is perfect for Nessa.

I can already see Lea Michele painted in green. It won't be hard for her to transform from being a student to a more mature character, she's not old nor young, just perfect. And Let's not forget that this was recorded 7 years ago, so if Lea can sing this song this good already, what more is it now? She recorded their hit cover of "Defying Gravity" 6 years ago and I can say that she's already matured a lot and her voice got deeper, fuller, better and more technical after comparing it to her last year's version of it. And no offense but for my ear, her voice was always better than Idina when I listened to their duets (I Dreamed A Dream, Somewhere, etc, and even their Let It Go versions) I dunno why, maybe because I can feel the strain that Idina's suffering when she's singing.

Her name is Sarah Rosenthal and she plays "little girl" in the Ragtime Revival on Broadway 2009, the same role that Lea played in the 1999 original of Ragtime.

Her voice has changed so much in 5 years, she's so much better now. I wish people would realise that when commenting, her lower notes and higher notes have improved so much. I'd love to see her as Elpheba so much.

I think Lea does this pretty amazingly.. Elphaba is supposed to be young when she sings this song.. And I think Lea does this pretty well. She's no Idina, but nobody will ever come close to being Idina.. But Lea does a fantastic job of getting the 'young Elphaba' across..
She reminds me of Cassidy Janson's version of this song (she played Elphie on the West End for a couple of shows) who also does the 'young Elphie' amazingly..
Why has nobody given her a theatre contract as elphaba that was outstanding even better then some of the actual elphies

@raychillie hate if you want to hate. She is incredible. She's already been on Broadway actually, and they don't let anyone but the best on Broadway or the West End, that's why it's so amazing to watch something there. She belted out that note fine. Okay, not quite as powerful as Idina or Rachel's belted note, but it's a hell of a lot better than you could ever hope to be.
WHERE IS ALL OF THIS COMING FROM ?!!!! and why are people liking that comment? COME ON you have got to be kidding me!! first Lea sweeps the floor with Teals tongue, second she has so much vocal power that she makes Idina want to be her real mom. So don't come with that saying Lea isn't fit for such easy role.

I can´t imagine her to be Elphaba. I´m not sayng she can´t sing, but most other actresses who perform that on braodway sing that song better than her. IMHO a person who has played Elphaba on stage deserves to play Elphaba in the movie.

It's hard to see when that might happen. She's probably going to do Glee for two more seasons (Ryan Murphy has indicated that Glee is probably a three year run). She is committed to do Dorothy's voice for the 2011 CGI animated movie "Dorothy of Oz" w/Kristin Chenoweth and Kelsey Grammar. As far as a Wicked movie, Idina Menzel thought that it would be several years before you see one because the box office is still so strong for the Broadway show (making Idina too old).

To all those saying Lea's voice isn't powerful enough for Wicked - you may know Wicked well, but you obviously don't know Lea. I can't think of anyone better for Elphaba - the amount she learns and takes on and the way her voice has developed. I am sure Idina herself would give Lea her blessing to be Elhpie.

@Kym749 No, she doesnt do that for flow...when was it ever okay to prounounce your "I" as "L"? Its just easier to belt certain letters depending on the person; for instantance, when I am doing warmups, its easier for me to sing "E" than "Ah"...Idina did not do that for flow or style, she did that so she wouldnt have to attempt to belt out the "I"

@NobodyInAllofOZ1 As much as I adore Idina...would she still be a good choice since she is older now than she was when she played Elphaba on Broadway? I'm not sure if the songs would be performed as well simply because her voice may have changed...don't know.

These comments amuse me. Was Lea auditioning for Elphaba at her cabaret? No, she was singing and performing. People ascribe more to her (and others) singing songs than needed. Sometimes a song is just a song. Relax people -- you're all going overboard with the negativity. I don't' have the visceral connection to wicked that so many do, so I don't really have any issue with it at all. I think she sang the song well, and people at the cabaret enjoyed it. That's all it was. Chill.
