For those who take issue with Lea Michele singing Streisand songs, keep in mind that Streisand certainly benefited from covering other artists' work herself. One key example - Streisand was obviously never in Hallelujah Baby but she had no problem popularizing "Being Good Isn't Good Enough," which was Leslie Uggams' song in the show. As for who sang what best, clearly that's subjective. But I think Michele is an astounding singer, and at 26, I'm sure she'll keep getting better.
Lea is so ridiculously talented, sometimes, like right now, I'm truly taken aback by it. God she's fantastic. Can we just get a Funn Girl revival together right now and give this little lady the part she was born for? PLEASE!
Lea's Glee version of this will be available on iTunes next week, Wednesday at the earliest, I think. Cannot wait. She is a spectacular vocalist. She's one of those singers that gives me goosebumps.

@breecullen101 Preach people don't realize how talented she is, I saw her in Spring Awakening and it was magical! She sounds even better live, and she is quite the performer.
She is one of the VERY FEW women I could see carrying on Barbara's legacy. Actually, listening to her voice, and the emotion she puts into her vocals, probably the ONLY one.

especially with Broadway barely staying alive nowadays, what is most important for a show is that it will survive....and with her Glee success, she is the smart and (really...) only option to play Fanny Brice in the upcoming revival. With all the hype and (whether or not you believe it to be true personally) some people calling her a rising legend...it makes sense. She'll sell MASSIVE amounts of tickets.it's that simple. it's logical. she's a smart girl singing so many barbra songs on the show.

@crazymileyfan6 Because it's quite obvious she's doing an homage to Barbra...her inflection on each note is practically exact to how Barbra performed it. Regardless, I agree - Lea does an awesome job. :)

@blueeyes61553 Exactly, Lea is an artist in her own right and it sucks that she's just this really talented and nice girl trying to make it in the world and then some people have to have a tantrum over her covering one of her idol's songs. Barbra is flawless, and while some prefer her covers they still don't have to bring Lea down, some people get really personal about these things too. There's a difference between being critical/constructive and just being downright insulting :/
@gluasad She is quite talented. In my opinion you just leave certain songs alone because they are so associated with someone else. It will also fall short no matter who does it. She should develop her own repetoire.

I think Lea would be a good Fanny Brice, but what would I know, however, I'm sure there are many talented actresses who could play the role as well. I will admit, I don't think Lea has a very versatile voice, but I haven't heard her sing anything live recently so I can't fairly judge her growth/change in terms of singing. Heavily influenced by Barbra? Sure. Trying to ~be Barbra? Eh. I think people can speculate, but I don't think anyone other than Lea truly knows what/who she wants to be. :3
Dude, it's a cover. Cover songs are done out of respect. Be grateful there are young people who still appreciate artist like Barbra Streisand. If it wasn't for her,kids my age wouldn't even know who she is. Why do old people have to make everything a battle of the generations? It's so immature.

Fanny Brice was a REAL person, not merely a character in a musical. Streisand was perfect for the role, one she was uniquely suited to play, and Lea Michele is totally wrong for the part, despite her considerable talents.

@Alevermor Barbara looked older at 22 then Lea does at 23. Not to mention Barbara was to young then IMHO! She has to be about 40 when the show is over, and a 20+year old just can't pull that off in most cases.

Oh ick. That was unfortunate. But Lea Michelle is AMAZING. Barbra Streisand is AMAZING. Together, however, not so much. Lea Michelle needs to sing like Lea Michelle. She can perform Barbara's songs, but she needs to put her own spin on them instead of trying to copycat an icon. Barbra is an icon for a reason: her talent is purely hers, not anyone else's.
So, go Lea! But go make your own mark before copying another's.

@garydemaio You make it sound as if she's TRYING to be Barbra, and that's not the case. Maybe you'd learn to like Lea's voice a little more once you stop thinking that she's trying to invade Barbra's spot by singing her songs. She admires her, that's it. Just because Barbra and Judy were the 'two greatest female vocalists of the 20th century' doesn't mean you can't appreciate a spine chilling cover by a young artist trying to make something of her life. Sorry, but I think she IS that good.
THIS WAS WAY PLAYED TOO FAST!!! The pianist needed to give Lea a chance to FEEL the song.. it's about man mistreating his woman and how the woman still loves him. This song HAS to be paced to be sung CORRECTLY! I rest my case

Kind of close, but no cigar. I'm sorry but she doesn't have the depth & power of Streisand & that fantastic vibrato that Barbra has. Also Barbra is an actress & is able to pack raw power & emotion into it like no other. She's good, but she's simply not on that level. A Streisand may come along once every 100 yrs. I mean c'mon, Barbra & Judy were the two greatest female vocalists of the 20th century. Sorry, but she just ain't THAT good.

Sorry my dear. She *is* trying to be like Barbra, you can tell because there are certain phrases she sings the same each and every time she performs it trying to mimic Barbra in the movie. Streisand, on the other hand, never sang the song the same way twice.
