    a tip i found for ferret chewing on tuck tape, if you need to duct tape something to a wall use a card to smooth it down while putting it on, I've found that when I knew someone who was bunny proofing corners.
    hope this helps someone!!

    Another solution for ovens and fridges is most of them have adjustable feet!! You would just need to find a way to lift the oven or fridge, adjust the foot smaller and set back down and repeat!

    Get a slip cover for your couch. One that cover the couch, and also (separately) has a cover for the cushions. I found one for my couch on Amazon for 38$ (including delivery). Had the same problem with my couch and ferrets. They don’t even bother with the couch anymore

    My house is COVERD in carpet! The only space that doesn’t have carpet is the kitchen which is far from ferret proof and is also where we keep our dogs (Which are very small Yorkies but the younger one is way too hyper and my ferrets get annoyed of her very quickly.) I usually keep them in my room but the scratch at the carpet and also have accidents and pee and poop on the carpet… I’ve got no clue on what to do.

    Why not use ONLY screws to attach the plywood to the couch? Worked just fine for me, so no need to muck about with nails and glue ;)
    Also, I don’t know if the baseboard heating system itself gets warm/hot when it’s on, but if that is the case you might want to keep the ferrets away from it completely to ensure they don’t accidentally burn themselves on it. Maybe take some plywood (high enough that the ferrets don’t jump over it) and some hinges and basically make a room divider/folding screen style thing to put in front of the baseboards. Attach the ends of the screen thingie to the walls with a hook and eye system so it can’t be knocked over or pushed aside and your ferrets will be safe! You’ll still be able to get behind yourself to clean and such by just unhooking the screen from the wall and folding it up like you would with a folding screen!
    I made the same thing around my radiators because they get so hot and my ferrets are 100% free roamed (even when I’m not home or asleep) and I want them to be safe in the house :)

      You could use only screws, but glue would help reinforce it. And since they had already had trouble attaching wood pieces to it before, it's worth the extra step just in case.

    • @awkwardanimagus767
      @awkwardanimagus767 Před 3 lety

      @@FriendlyNeighborhoodFerrets I guess that if your ferrets are pretty destructive, it couldn’t hurt to use some glue too XD Mine are not very destructive thankfully, but they are stupid about putting things in their mouths to taste them… My dummies would definitely try to lick the glue XD Aaaaaa the joys of having ferrets hahaha

    The sofa proved so difficult to *completely* ferret proof that we lost one of my babies in the process (DIP Loki) so we literally threw out every sofa in the house and filled it with day-beds, those ones with bars across the bottom so if they squeeze into the sides (That's what they all seem to want to do) they just fall through a shot drop to the floor and can't get stuck.

  • @Nistel88
    @Nistel88 Před 3 lety

    TO THE SOFA ISSUE!!! Yes, get plywood! Yes, use strong glue to use in combination with the nails, if you are not gonna drill in screws! Good points! Measure the couch before hand, so you can do the entire sofa bottom! Not just the part where there's a hole! Make it cover the whole entire bottom! AND! you can unscrew the feet off of many sofas, and drill a hole into the plywood where the feet can be screwed back on over the plywood. Which helps it stay on, securely as well!
    Here's the video where I got that idea, if anyone wants to watch how they did it like I did!

    I really don’t understand why people with small pets have furniture… like shelves and couches.. just own less so the space you have can be utilized freely by the pets. If the pet can’t use it or it’s hazardous get rid of it.

  • @3amhellbeast
    @3amhellbeast Před 3 lety

    Dang, missed this one 😂 I have a stupid reclining couch that I wish I could get rid of but my landlord won't let me. I think I have a solution but just because I think I have bigbrained it, but I know so many ferret owners have issues with these couches and most sites or people say to just get rid of the couch even though that's not an option for everyone 😅

    • @FriendlyNeighborhoodFerrets
      @FriendlyNeighborhoodFerrets  Před 3 lety +1

      Recliners are SUCH a pain! My old room mate had them and we had to do some serious ferret proofing. They're also hard because every one is made differently. All you can really do is block off as much as you can and instigate a "no reclining the chair when the ferrets are out" rule. I hope whatever you did worked :D

    • @3amhellbeast
      @3amhellbeast Před 3 lety

      @@FriendlyNeighborhoodFerrets I'm hoping that distraction tubes and using cut up thick foam gym mats covered in duct tape (and nicer looking contact paper lol) surrounding the edge of the couch may hopefully work! But I think the tile trick might work to block off the front without having to actually tape anything to the front of the couch so it can still recline when the ferrets aren't out. The stage tape might be a good idea for anything that has to actually be taped to the couch itself though! 😂
      Fingers crossed it works! I know as soon as it's blocked off they'll be too lazy to try to get in there. Hopefully. Luckily there's no protruding nails or screws inside that I could feel, but Carp really likes to get inside of it and dig at the couch foam so it has really been a pain when we want them to have more free roam of our apartment. Your video really helped with coming up with a few ideas that may help my idea not only look nicer but work better for functionality too!

    I am wondering if I should add a tube that actually goes in my couch and the entrance would be on one side of the couch, and then they go in and go all the way through the tube that is inside he couch and exit on the other side of the couch.
